After she disappeared in October 2017, the FBI put up a $100,000 reward for the&nbsp;42-year-old, who is also a German citizen.

US authorities filed a sealed indictment and warrant for her arrest as she was behind one of the most notorious scams in the frequently treacherous world of cryptocurrencies.

Aiming to replace Bitcoin as the world's leading virtual money, Ignatova launched OneCoin in 2014. According to the FBI, she and her co-conspirators pulled in at least $3.4 billion by tapping a global network to market the coin to friends and family in exchange for their own payouts.

While other cryptocurrencies have independent and secured blockchain-type technology, OneCoin did not have these as it was a classic Ponzi scheme.

Ignatova encouraged early investors to find others and then paid out by receipts from later investors.

FBI Special Agent Ronald Shimko said in a statement "OneCoin claimed to have a private blockchain."

"This is in contrast to other virtual currencies, which have a decentralized and public blockchain. In this case, investors were just asked to trust OneCoin," he said.

As international investigators began to close in on her group, Ignatova disappeared in 2017.

"Investigators believe Ignatova may have been tipped off that she was under investigation by US and international authorities," the FBI said.

"She traveled from Sofia, Bulgaria, to Athens, Greece, on October 25, 2017, and has not been seen since."

Offering a 5,000 euro ($5,200) reward for information on her whereabouts, Europol announced it had added Ignatova to its most-wanted list in May this year.

On the other hand, a report by The Times said that it had learned last month that one of the works was painted on the back of a shipping box that bore instructions to "Align top of FedEx Shipping Label here." The report quoted a designer who worked for Federal Express.&nbsp;

Notably, the instructions were in a typeface that was not used until 1994, six years after the artist died. Jean-Michel Basquiat was an American artist who rose to success during the 1980s as part of the Neo-expressionism movement.&nbsp;

The Democratic Alliance, South Africa's second largest political party, said on Tuesday that they have written to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate President Cyril Ramphosa for alleged money laundering.

"Specifically, we have requested that the FBI consider investigating the source of the funds and whether the funds were brought into South Africa legitimately and declared to the appropriate authorities," John Steenhuisen, leader of the party, said.

This comes after former State Security Agency boss Arthur Fraser opened a criminal case against the President, alleging him of corruption, money laundering and kidnapping, claiming that Ramaphosa concealed a robbery in which millions of dollars were stolen from his Phala Phala farm in February 2020.

"We have recommended that the ledgers or journals which would have recorded the alleged sale of wild game at auction be requested from the president, to determine the identities of those involved in the suspicious cash transactions," Steenhuisen added.

In an email Wednesday, Brookings told staffers that the Washington-based think tank is not under any investigation and that institution’s executive vice president, Ted Gayer, will serve as the acting president.

“We have every confidence in the Brookings team’s ability to remain focused on delivering quality, independence, and impact,” AP quoted the email as saying.

The FBI in the affidavit has claimed to have found “substantial evidence” that Allen knowingly broke a foreign lobbying law and made false statements and withheld “incriminating” documents. The US federal agency has now sought search a warrant.

In the affidavit, it has been claimed that the Brookings Institution’s chief travelled to Qatar and met with the country’s top officials to offer them advice on how to influence US policy, as well as promote Qatar’s point of view to top White House officials and members of Congress.

Allen, who was a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution prior to becoming president, used his official email account at the think tank for some of his Qatar-related communications, the affidavit says.

Qatar refused to comply with an initial list of 13 demands, saying it would not agree to any measures that threatened its sovereignty or violated international law.

Buffalo mass shooting: 'Racist' shooter specifically targeted African American neighbourhood

A brag about rioting to an Uber driver has led to arrest of a Capitol rioter by FBI in the US. Capitol Hill riots on January 6, 2021 were perpetrated by supporters of US President Donald Trump. Jerry Braun, one of the rioters, took an Uber to go home after the violence on the day. He had an eye-injury caused due to the scuffles during the rioting.

The driver noticed the injury and asked about it and the general mayhem on Capitol Hill.

“Well it started around, right when I got there. I tore down the barricades,” Braun bragged.

Just getting Braun's whereabouts may not have been fully enough to build a watertight case against him. Guardian reported that to ascertain whether he really was Jerry Braun, FBI compared his images from the Uber taxi to those with California state authorities. It was a match.

Investigators then started to sift through the footage of the Capitol Hill riots. They found Braun scuffling with people, even raising a wooden plank againsy a security official. He also appeared to assault a person who was wearing a helmet with letters 'Press' on it.

Braun was arrested earlier this month on April 12.

According to Reuters, an unsealed redacted affidavit stated that the operation was a pre-emptive move on the part of the authorities to stop the hackers from using the devices into forming a ‘botnet’ which is described as a network of hacked systems that can attack other servers.<o:p></o:p>

"Fortunately, we were able to disrupt this botnet before it could be used,” US Attorney General Merrick Garland was quoted as saying by the Reuters news agency.

Research conducted by private cybersecurity firms believe that Cyclops Blink was designed to hijack a number of devices manufactured by ASUSTek computers and Watchguard technologies.<o:p></o:p>

According to the Reuters report, Watchguard confirmed that they were working with the US Justice Department in the operation and in their statement, the company stated that the percentage of devices affected by the malware was just one percent.

Citing a potential threat of "malicious" cyber activities, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has asked the United States athletes to use burner phones (temporary phones) during Winter Olympics 2022 in China and leave their personal cell phones at home.&nbsp;

Utah County Attorney David Leavitt’s office said, “Investigators also learned that Nicholas Rossi had fled the country to avoid prosecution in Ohio and attempted to lead investigators and state legislators in other states to believe that he was deceased.”

“Mr. Rossi was discovered to be living under an assumed name in Scotland.”

When he disappeared during his court trial, his lawyer Jeffrey Pine said, "The next thing I know he gets very, very sick with cancer and dies within weeks. Do I think it’s possible he’s alive? Of course, I do.”

"The Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) initiated an investigation after receiving information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) alleging that, while working for the FBI overseas, multiple then FBI officials solicited, engaged in, and/or procured commercial sex," read the statement.&nbsp;

The statement further said that it was alleged that one of the FBI officials provided another of the officials a package with nearly 100 white pills so that it can be delivered to a foreign law enforcement officer. The reports did not elaborate on what exactly the pills were.

The investigation then concluded that "all five officials failed to report their own misconduct and the misconduct of others in connection with the procurement of commercial sex."&nbsp;

The report has not identified the officials but it claims that two had resigned and the other two had retired. Also,&nbsp;one of them was removed during the investigation process.

Another official who has been accused of breaking policy as he failed to report his colleagues’ misconduct still works for the bureau.

FBI has vowed to “take all appropriate disciplinary actions” against the employee.

Brian Laundrie’s body was found in a wilderness area in Florida, a month after his girlfriend Petito,22, was found strangled to death near Wyoming’s Grand Teton national park, where the couple had been travelling together in a van. &nbsp;

In the torturous history of the US government’s black sites, the FBI has long been portrayed as acting with a strong moral compass. Its agents, disgusted with the violence they saw at a secret CIA prison in Thailand, walked out, enabling the bureau to later deploy “clean teams” untainted by torture to interrogate the five men accused of conspiring in the attacks of September 11, 2001.

But new information that emerged this week in the September&nbsp;11 case undermines that FBI narrative. The two intelligence agencies secretly arranged for nine FBI agents to temporarily become CIA operatives in the overseas prison network where the spy agency used torture to interrogate its prisoners.

The once-secret program came to light in pretrial proceedings in the death penalty case. The proceedings are examining whether the accused mastermind of the September&nbsp;11 plot, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and his four co-defendants voluntarily confessed after years in the black site network, where detainees were waterboarded, beaten, deprived of sleep and isolated to train them to comply with their captors’ wishes.

At issue is whether the military judge will exclude from the eventual trial the testimony of FBI agents who questioned the defendants in 2007 at Guantánamo and also forbid the use of reports that the agents wrote about each man’s account of his role in the hijacking conspiracy.

A veteran Guantánamo prosecutor, Jeffrey D. Groharing, has called the FBI interrogations “the most critical evidence in this case.” Defense lawyers argue that the interrogations were tainted by the years of torture by U.S. government agents.

In open court Thursday, another prosecutor, Clayton G. Trivett Jr., confirmed the unusual arrangement, in which nine agents were "formally detailed" to the agency “and thus became a member of the CIA and worked within CIA channels.”

He said that the agents served as “debriefers,” a CIA term for interrogators, and questioned black site prisoners “out of the coercive environment” and after the use of “EITs.”

EITs, or enhanced interrogation techniques, is a CIA euphemism for a series of abusive tactics that the agency used against Mohammed and other prisoners in 2002 and 2003&nbsp;tactics that were then approved but are now illegal. They include waterboarding, painful shackling and isolating a prisoner nude, shivering and in the dark to break his will to resist interrogation.

Trivett offered no precise time period but made clear that the FBI agents were absorbed by the CIA sometime between 2002, when the black sites were established, and September 2006. On their return to the FBI, they took on the status of CIA assets, he said, and so their identities are classified.

Five of the nine agents had roles in the interrogations of some of the defendants in the case, Trivett said, and their names have been provided to defence lawyers on the basis that they not be disclosed.

The FBI declined to comment on the arrangement, as did the CIA.

A defence lawyer, James G. Connell III, added more details in the same court hearing.

He said that the nine agents “stopped being FBI agents and became CIA agents temporarily” under a memorandum of understanding that established a different arrangement than the more typical assignment of a representative of one law enforcement agency to work out of the organisation of another.

A former CIA historian, Nicholas Dujmovic, said there was a precedent for “taking employees from another government agency and quickly making them CIA employees for specific functions.”

In the 1950s, the CIA transformed US Air Force pilots into CIA employees during their stints flying U-2 spy planes and then returned them to the Air Force without the loss of seniority or benefits. “President Eisenhower thought it was important that U-2s not be piloted by US military pilots,” Dujmovic said. The process was called “sheep dipping,” he said.

Earlier testimony showed the FBI participating remotely in the CIA interrogations through requests sent by cables to the black sites seeking certain information from specific detainees, including Mohammed after he was waterboarded 183 times to force him to talk.

The pretrial hearings are in their ninth year and the military judge, Col. Matthew N. McCall of the Air Force, is the fourth judge to hear testimony at Guantánamo. In arguing over potential trial evidence, the prisoners’ lawyers have repeatedly accused prosecutors of redacting information that the defence needs to prepare for the capital trial. In the military commissions, prosecutors are the gatekeepers of potential trial evidence and can withhold information they deem not relevant to the defence’s needs.

In one example, Connell showed the judge a November 2005 cable the FBI sent to the CIA that contained questions for three of the defendants while they were in a black site out of reach of the courts, lawyers and the International Red Cross.

The FBI released the cable to the public this month under an executive order by President Joe Biden to declassify information about the FBI investigation of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Connell had earlier received a version of the same cable from prosecutors. But it was so redacted that it obscured the fact that the FBI wanted Mohammed and the other defendants questioned in the black sites.

Trivett sought to play down the disclosure of the FBI-CIA collaboration as routine business at a time when the U.S. government was devoting tremendous resources to investigating the September 11 attacks. “This is not some big bombshell,” he told the judge.

A lawyer for Mohammed, Denny LeBoeuf, cast the collaboration as part of a conspiracy to portray FBI accounts of interrogations of the defendants at Guantánamo in 2007 as “clean team statements,” a law enforcement expression.

The messages were purported to be from the Department of Homeland Security of US. It claimed to be a warning about a supposed threat. The mail was titled, "Urgent: Threat actor in systems." &nbsp;

According to the non-profit anti-spam watchdog ‘Spamhaus’, recipients of the email were told that they were the target of a "sophisticated chain attack" from an extortion group, which was known as the Dark Overlord. &nbsp;

In a tweet, Spamhaus said, "They are causing a lot of disruption because the headers are real, they really are coming from FBI infrastructure." It added that they did not include names or contact information of the sender. &nbsp;

According to US Treasury Department, "There are allegations that Deripaska bribed a government official, ordered the murder of a businessman and had links to a Russian organised crime group."

Deripaska filed a lawsuit in March 2019 against the Treasury Department, accusing it of illegally targeting him, but the suit was tossed out this year by a federal judge.

The suit claimed that Deripaska's net worth had dropped by $7.5 billion after the sanctions were imposed on him and six other Russian oligarchs by the Trump administration in April 2018.

Washington imposed sanctions on Deripaska, 53, and other influential Russians because of their ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin after alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election which Moscow denies.

The representative turned out to be an undercover FBI agent.

The couple used to place&nbsp;an SD card concealed within half a peanut butter sandwich at the “dead drop” location for the "representative" to recover.&nbsp;

The work of the FBI, Department of Justice prosecutors, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Department of Energy was critical in thwarting the plot charged in the complaint and taking this first step in bringing the perpetrators to justice.” &nbsp;

The Toebbes will be produced in a federal court in Martinsburg, West Virginia on October 12, as per the DOJ. They have been charged with criminal offences under Atomic Energy Act. &nbsp;&nbsp;

In April 2020, Jonathan Toebbe sent a package to the undercover FBI agent containing a sample of "restricted data". The package also included instructions for establishing a covert relationship to purchase more information. Believing that FBI agent was a foreign representative, Toebbe began corresponding with him through encrypted email, reported the DOJ. &nbsp;

For several months, Toebbe continued correspondence and made an agreement to sell "restricted data" in exchange for money in cryptocurrency. &nbsp;

As a “good faith” payment, the undercover agent sent $10,000 in cryptocurrency to Toebbe on June 8.&nbsp;The couple travelled to a location in West Virginia a couple of times to deliver an encrypted SD card in exchange of money.

The FBI arrested the couple on their third visit, the DOJ reported. &nbsp;
