Did Macron post it?

A manual review of Macron's X and Instagram accounts for April 8, 2026, found nothing resembling the alleged post. It doesn't exist on either platform.

Also read | Artemis II: Astronauts stuck using 'special bags' as $23 million toilet gets clogged

So, where did the image actually come from?

The earliest traceable version of the image dates to February 5, 2026, posted on Facebook by an account that explicitly identifies itself as a satire and meme page. That's more than two months before the Macron claim surfaced. The Facebook post specifies that the picture is, in fact, ‘Digitally altered’ and a ‘parody’.

The image carries a serial number formatted to resemble those used to index materials in the Department of Justice's Epstein document library. Her face has been redacted to protect her identity. Moreover, the position of Epstein's hands in the pictures is different from the one being shared online. Additionally, none of them shows Epstein wearing a ring. A close look at his hands also shows what appeared to be a deformed hand, with two of Epstein's fingers seemingly merged together.

AI detectors flag the image as doctored

WION ran multiple detection tests, with two different AI detection tools flagging the image as fake with 97 and 100% probability, respectively.

Disclaimer: WION is only reporting the names that have been mentioned in the Epstein files and is not accusing anyone of any wrongdoing.
Many on social media platforms alleged that Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo showed his support towards Palestine by waving its flag on the field amid the nation's ongoing conflict with Israel. Videos and pictures started circulating, on Sunday (Oct 8), which claimed that the footballer was none other than Ronaldo who openly supported Palestine by waving its flag on the field.

One such viral tweet read: "Star footballer Christiano Ronaldo is supporting Palestine by raising their flag after victory".

However, that is NOT the truth. As per a report in India Today, the footballer in question is not CR7 but Moroccan footballer Jawad El Yamiq. Moreover, the video isn't of recent times but one from the 2022 FIFA World Cup when Morocco beat Canada.

In addition, Qatar-based Doha News shared a similar video on Facebook with the same information. Viral video fact check: Canadian oppn leader lashes out at Trudeau, says he 'severely' damaged ties with India

Recently, Simon Doull -- former New Zealand cricketer-turned-commentator -- made heads turn with his alleged controversial statement on Pakistan. In a recent statement that went viral, it was believed that the New Zealander, who is popular for his commentary stints worldwide, opened up on his experience in Pakistan and said 'living in Pakistan is like being in a jail'.

While Doull's alleged statement spread like wildfire on social media platforms, he recently opened up on the claims and slammed the fake remark. And I stayed in Pakistan without food for many days. Even I was mentally tortured, but by the grace of God, I somehow escaped from Pakistan."

Gravitas: Decoding Trump's State of the Union address

U.S. President Donald Trump claims to be Number 1 on Facebook. But, the numbers tell a different tale. Here is a fact check.

Gravitas: Reality Check: Trump's Facebook Popularity

Facebook will not fact-check the statements which politicians post to the site, the social network announced on Tuesday ahead of the United States 2020 elections, even as it works to discredit false information meant to manipulate public opinion.

While the social network relies on third-party fact-checkers, including news organisations such as AFP, to help it discredit viral misinformation, it will stop short of wading into the veracity of political claims.

"We don't believe... that it's an appropriate role for us to referee political debates and prevent a politician's speech from reaching its audience and being subject to public debate and scrutiny," said Nick Clegg, Facebook Vice President of Global Affairs and Communications.

"This means that we will not send organic content or ads from politicians to our third-party fact-checking partners for review," he said.

Worries have run high ahead of the November 2020 polls following revelations of a wide-ranging misinformation campaign on Facebook and other social platforms, largely directed by Russian operatives, in the 2016 elections.

Overwhelmed by such misinformation, Facebook has set up partnerships with media outlets to verify articles and posts found to be of a dubious nature, with journalists' contributions appearing below problematic content, which is labelled as doubtful.

Exclusion of politicians' discourse has been a part of Facebook's policy for over a year, Clegg said.

"However, when a politician shares previously debunked content including links, videos and photos, we plan to demote that content, display related information from fact-checkers, and reject its inclusion in advertisements," he said.

Clegg, a former British Deputy Prime Minister, joined Facebook less than a year ago to help fix its scandal-plagued image following Russian social media campaigns during elections.

Facebook meanwhile walks a fine line in its attempts to balance freedom of expression with the regulation of inappropriate content.

Its Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg has taken steps to increase transparency, especially when it comes to political advertising.

The social network has come under fire from critics, particularly Democrats, who believe that tech giants have become too powerful. Meanwhile Republicans, including US President Donald Trump, regularly accuse the social network of censoring conservative voices.
