A Boeing 747, which had departed from New York's John F Kennedy International Airport and was en route to Liege, Belgium, was forced to return on November 9 after a horse went loose inside the cargo hold.

The cargo flight, which was being run by charter airline Air Atlanta Icelandic, had climbed nearly 31,000 feet when Air Traffic Control was contacted by the crew in Boston and the issue of escape of horse was reported.

“We don’t have a problem (…) flying-wise,” stated one of the pilots, in a video which was shared by the YouTube channel “You Can See ATC,” but “we cannot get the horse back secured".&nbsp;

Speaking to CNN, a representative from Air Atlanta Icelandic confirmed that the information shared in the “You Can See ATC” video is correct.

<h2>Horse jumped after turbulence struck the flight</h2>

The horse was one of the 15 animals being transported to Liege, which is Europe's import hub.

As per John Cuticelli, head of the corporation responsible for operating animal quarantine and export at John F Kennedy International Airport, turbulence struck the flight shortly after its takeoff.

The horse got spooked by the turbulence hit and jumped halfway over the stall's high front barrier and was hung up, with his hind legs trapped on the stall's inside and his front legs on one side of the barrier.&nbsp;

In the recordings shared, Air Traffic Control was heard granting the request of the pilot to return to JFK Airport. The pilot also demanded that a veterinarian be sent inside the plane after it lands because “we have a horse in difficulty.”

Cuticelli stated, “We dispersed veterinary care, animal handlers, medical equipment, horse slings, a horse ambulance, everything necessary to accommodate that horse. We had to take the other horses out to get the equipment in to get the horse out."&nbsp;

Cuticelli said that once the animal was present on the ground, it was euthanised as it was found that its injuries were too severe to survive.

Kangana Ranaut's Emergency delayed again! Film to release in 2024

Many mobile users in India received an emergency alert from the government on Tuesday (Oct 10) morning around 11:35 am.&nbsp;

The message stated, "This is a SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE sent through Cell Broadcasting System by the Department of Telecommunication, Government of India. Please ignore this message as no action is required from your end."

The emergency alert message popped with a loud buzzer-like sound. However, there is no need to panic, since this was part of a test of the country's new emergency alert system, which is being deployed by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).&nbsp;

<h2>Why&nbsp;was the alert sent?</h2>

"In our continuous commitment to the safety of citizens of India and the communities, tests of Cell Broadcast Alert System are being conducted on each Telecom Service Provider. These tests will be performed from time to time in various regions across the country to gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency alert broadcasting capabilities of the systems in place, of various Mobile Operators and Cell Broadcast Systems," the Ministry of Communications had said in a release.

This is not the first time such a&nbsp;message&nbsp;was&nbsp;sent.&nbsp;A&nbsp;similar flash alert was sent to many users a few weeks ago. The Department of Telecommunications Cell Broadcasting System (DoT CBS) has announced that it plans to conduct similar tests periodically in various regions.

The government is closely working with the NDMA project, which will be used in times of disasters such as tsunamis, flash floods, and earthquakes, among other scenarios.

C-DOT's CEO, Rajkumar Upadhyay, earlier informed that the technology for cell broadcast is currently only available from foreign vendors, so C-DOT is developing its own.&nbsp;

<h2>Government's urgent response </h2>

Transport Minister Clement Beaune is convening a meeting to assess the situation on Wednesday (Oct 4), aiming to quantify the problem and enhance measures to address it.

An inter-ministerial meeting is scheduled for Friday (Oct 6) to provide swift solutions. President Emmanuel Macron's party, Renaissance, plans to introduce a cross-party bill in December to combat the bedbug "scourge." Health Minister Aurelien Rousseau emphasises the importance of avoiding scams in pest control services and assures the public that there is no general panic.

Bedbugs, once nearly eradicated by the 1950s, have made a comeback in recent decades, driven by factors such as population density and mass transit. Approximately one-tenth of French households have faced bedbug issues in recent years, necessitating costly pest control interventions.

Flash flooding is expected through Wednesday afternoon in northeastern Victoria, according to the&nbsp;Australian Bureau of Meteorology, as rain drenched parts of the state where as recently as Tuesday about 17,000 hectares were ablaze.

First responders overnight rescued a farmer in the area who got trapped after driving through floodwaters, according to chief officer operations Tim Wiebusch at Victoria state emergency service.

Parts of the state had received up to 150 mm of rain, almost eight times the state's average in September, with more expected on Wednesday, he said.

"Fortunately we have seen some rainfall across those two fires," said Wiebusch.

"But over these next 24, 48 hours flash flooding, riverine flooding, is really the key risk. We can't emphasise enough, people need to be alert to their conditions."

The rain comes during an unseasonably dry&nbsp;Australian spring, which began in September. Last month was the driest September on record, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, with rainfall 71% below the 1961-1990 average.

Firefights are working to contain bush fires in two parts of Victoria state but authorities said there was no immediate threat to residents.

"This must be an incredibly traumatic experience," he said.
