Trump 2.0: The world’s military giant is losing the global soft power contest

The Trump administration, on Friday, May 8, 2026, released the first batch of “UFO files". The files purportedly claim to have released 162 never-before-seen videos, photographs and witness testimonies tied to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP). The declassified materials are publicly available through a dedicated portal hosted by the US Department of War. The move is part of the initiative known as PURSUE (Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters) involving multiple US federal agencies.
What is in the UFO files?
Among the most controversial materials were images and transcripts linked to NASA's Apollo 17, Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 moon missions. In the Apollo 12 transcript, it reads “the pilot of the Lunar Module (LMP-LM), Astronaut Alan L. Bean, described observing particles and flashes of light 'sailing off in space' via the onboard Alignment Optical Telescope (AOT). He characterised these phenomena as ‘escaping the Moon.’” Another such testimony from the Apollo 12 mission reads, “Mission Commander, Charles ‘Pete’ Conrad, described observing floating debris outside the lunar module, which had been illuminated by the module’s onboard tracking light. At 06:00:21:51, Conrad assessed that the tracking light had burnt out because he could no longer see the debris from the module.” Another such testimony from the Apollo 17 mission transcript mentions astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt described "very bright particles" and "jagged, angular fragments" moving past their windows. There are several other reports of UAP sightings over Georgia, Turkmenistan, the UAE, and videos of suggested UAPs moving over the Gulf of Oman. Other documents include visual reconstruction of eyewitness testimony; however, none of the files has been verified, and the Trump administration quite similar to the Epstein files has left bread crumbs for the public to fiddle around. US President Donald Trump proposed to paint the slate grey granite of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building (EEOB) to white to match the White House. The project is estimated to cost around $7.5 million of taxpayers' funds. US President Donald Trump asserted that the US proposal aimed at ending the war with Iran is not just a “one-page offer” but rather a detailed roadmap to end the war. US Presdient Donald Trump on Thursday (May 7) dismissed Iran's attacks on three American warships as "a trifle," and declared that the ceasefire was still in effect. "They trifled with us today. We blew them away. They trifled. I call that a trifle," Trump told reporters during a visit to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool renovations. When asked whether the ceasefire remained active, "Yeah, it is," he said. Were the US warships damaged? US Central Command has confirmed that none of the three warships were hit when Iranian forces launched "multiple missiles, drones and small boats". It said American forces "eliminated inbound threats and targeted Iranian military facilities responsible," while adding that CENTCOM "does not seek escalation but remains positioned and ready to protect American forces." While the US blamed Iran for the exchange of fire, Iran's version of events was different. Tehran's military command accused Washington of initiating the exchange of fire, specifically by attacking an Iranian oil tanker and another ship, and said its forces "immediately and in retaliation attacked American military vessels." Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran would communicate its position to mediator Pakistan after "finalising its views." The exchange was the most direct military confrontation between the two sides since the ceasefire came into effect on April 8, and it threatens to unravel a truce that has already been strained by the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, continued Israeli operations in Lebanon and competing claims about what the ceasefire does and doesn't cover. Trump dismisses Iranian attack on three US warships in Strait of Hormuz as 'a trifle,' insists ceasefire still in place

The United States has said it carried out retaliatory strikes against Iranian targets following an attack on American warships in the Strait of Hormuz. According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), Iranian forces launched missiles, drones, and small boats at three U.S. Navy destroyers, but all incoming threats were intercepted and no American vessels were hit.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared a screenshot from X featuring the idea: “I want Trump to change ICE to NICE (National Immigration and Customs Enforcement) so the media has to say NICE agents all day everyday.” Responding to the proposal, he wrote, “GREAT IDEA!!! The concept was originally promoted by conservative influencer Alyssa Marie, who posted: “I want Trump to change ICE to NICE (National Immigration and Customs Enforcement) so the media has to say NICE agents all day everyday.” A White House spokesperson declined further comment, directing inquiries to Trump’s Truth Social post. The idea quickly drew polarized reactions. Democratic Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal criticized ICE, writing: “ICE is not keeping us safe. It's terrorizing our communities, detaining US citizens, and letting people die in custody. Abolish ICE.” https://www.wionews.com/videos/mahmoud-abbas-positioning-his-son-as-successor-1778003598746/embed Meanwhile, conservative commentator Nick Sortor supported the idea, writing: “100% agree! Make it happen, @SecMullinDHS!” While renaming a federal agency would typically require congressional approval, the proposal has added to the ongoing political debate over immigration enforcement in the United States.

He also denied instructing the Department of Justice to check if a third term could be allowed. "That would be a big shattering, wouldn’t it? While the US Constitution under the 22nd Amendment bars any individual from running for the presidency for the third time, Trump supporters have said that the law can be interpreted differently as well. Amid growing signs of public dissatisfaction over the war with Iran, President Donald Trump on Monday (May 4) dismissed polling data as inaccurate, calling it ‘fake’. Speaking at a White House event focused on small businesses, Trump pushed back against surveys suggesting weak public support for the conflict. “They give me fake polls,” Trump said. “They did a poll on the war with Iran, and they said only 32% of people like it. Well, I don’t like it, and I don’t like war at all, but we’re equipped better, and we have the greatest military in the world.” He argued that polling questions were framed unfairly and should instead focus on whether Iran should be allowed to possess nuclear weapons. “It wouldn’t be 32%,” he said. “But even if you said that, there’d be a 32% because the polls are fake. Earlier on May 4, US President Donald Trump, in a social media post on the Truth Social platform, said that countries around the world were affected by the Strait of Hormuz closure. Trump said that they are “neutral and innocent bystanders”, not involved in the conflict in West Asia.“For the good of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States, we have told these Countries that we will guide their Ships safely out of these restricted Waterways, so that they can freely and ably get on with their business,” read the post. Trump's so-called humanitarian help, “Project Freedom”, will begin on Monday. He said that they will use force in case of any interference from Iran, at the same time adding that “my Representatives are having very positive discussions with the Country of Iran, and that these discussions could lead to something very positive for all. The Ship movement is merely meant to free up people, companies, and Countries that have done absolutely nothing wrong- They are victims of circumstance.”The Persian Gulf region is now facing a dual blockade, where the US Navy is controlling the Iranian ports, whereas Iran is controlling the traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and charging a toll for it. The oil market has reacted positively. WTI crude was down 0.65% at $101.30, while Brent crude had dropped 0.39% to $107.80 as Trump announced “Project Freedom” and OPEC+ countries have decided to raise the cap on Oil production.
