The New York Times reported that on Sunday, more than a dozen senior New York officials met senior safety aides of city mayor Eric Adams to discuss security and contingency plans for any protests.

NBC News said that police and other law enforcement agencies had conducted "preliminary security assessments," including placing a security perimeter around the Manhattan Criminal Court where Trump would likely appear before a judge.

"The NYPD's state of readiness remains a constant at all times, for all contingencies. Our communications and coordination with our partners in government and in law enforcement are fundamental tenets of our commitment to public safety," a police spokesperson told AFP.

Senior Democrats have warned that Trump's calls could trigger a repeat of the violence that his supporters unleashed on the US Capitol in January 2021.

The New York Young Republican Club announced a "peaceful protest" of Bragg's "heinous attack" on Trump for 6:00 pm (2000 GMT) in lower Manhattan Monday but it was unclear how many would turn out.

Trump has blasted the investigation as a "witch hunt," while his vice-president Mike Pence described the probe as a "politically charged prosecution."

Unreported foreign gifts that former President Trump received totalled more than $150,000 in estimated value. The committee discovered 13 more unreported foreign gifts with a combined estimated worth of more than $22,000 that were sent to both former President Trump and former First Lady Melania Trump.

Trump and the former first lady Melania Trump received 18 undisclosed presents from abroad with a combined approximate value of more than $33,000. Together, Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, and their kids got 33 undisclosed presents worth close to $82,000. Records show that the First Family, including Trump, received 117 undisclosed gifts from abroad worth almost $291,000 in total.

Records indicated that the Trump family got 17 unreported gifts from India with a total estimated value of more than $47,000. The&nbsp;presents included a $8,500 vase, a $4,600 Taj Mahal model, and $1,900 in cufflinks.

The State Department, according to the report, did not include any foreign presents that President Trump received in its inadequate annual list of gifts received from abroad.

Democrats on the committee asked for documents from the General Services Administration (GSA) and the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in order to assess the scope of the failure to disclose foreign gifts and whether or not these unreported gifts may have had an impact on US foreign policy during the Trump Administration.

Gifts from China's President Xi Jinping, Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other foreign government leaders are among the undisclosed foreign presents. According to the committee's investigation, the Trump family received 17 presents from Saudi Arabia worth a combined total of over $48,000 that were not disclosed to the State Department.

The discovery of these undisclosed presents from foreign governments prompts important inquiries about why former President Trump did not declare these gifts as required by law, the report said.&nbsp;

The Foreign Gifts and Decorations Act forbids the President and federal representatives from retaining personal presents from foreign governments that exceed the 'minimum value',&nbsp;which is presently fixed at $415.&nbsp;The law requires that all foreign gifts over the minimal value be publicly disclosed, regardless of their final disposition.&nbsp;

This is just one of the several controversies that have recently surrounded Trump. 
 
In the most recent instance, Trump might be "arrested" for allegedly paying Stormy Daniels, whose actual name is Stephanie Clifford, $130,000 in hush money prior to the 2016 election to prevent her from disclosing an alleged romance with Trump years earlier.

United States former president Donald Trump on Friday uploaded his first post on his Facebook and YouTube accounts&nbsp;which were reinstated after being banned for more than two years over the US Capitol insurrection.

"I'M BACK," Trump wrote, while sharing a 12-second video clip in which he appeared to be giving his victory speech after winning the elections in 2016. In the video, he was seen exclaiming, "Sorry to keep you waiting - complicated business."

The suspended account of Trump was reinstated by YouTube on Friday after two years.

The step was taken after a similar decision was adopted by Meta, which is the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, and Twitter, which is owned by Elon Musk.

In January 2021, Trump was banned from uploading videos on YouTube, with the social media platform at the time stating that rules of incitement of violence were broken by his channel.

However, according to the press account on YouTube, Trump's account is now back online.

"We carefully evaluated the continued risk of real-world violence, while balancing the chance for voters to hear equally from major national candidates in the run-up to an election. This channel will continue to be subject to our policies, just like any other channel on YouTube,” it added.

Social media bans

Trump was previously banned by YouTube from sharing videos on its platform days after the US Capitol was stormed by his supporters in Washington DC on January 6, 2021.

Hundreds of rioters had barged into the complex after attempts were made by the US Congress to certify the victory of Joe Biden in the presidential election.

After the US Capitol attack, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts of Trump were also suspended. After seven months, Trump started his own social media platform, Truth Social.

Who is Guo Wengui?

The report also said that the extent of the exposure of Trump Media and its officials for money laundering remained unclear. The statutes broadly required prosecutors to show that defendants knew the money was the proceeds of some form of illegal activity and the transaction was designed to conceal its source.

Of this $8 million, the first payment of $2 million came to Trump Media in December 2021 when it was on the verge of collapse after the planned merger with the DWAC was delayed when the SEC opened an inquiry into whether the arrangement broke regulatory rules.

Trump Media required a bridge loan to keep afloat. However, it was struggling to get finances until Patrick Orlando, the chief executive of the DWAC, sourced a $2 million loan wired from Paxum Bank- which is registered in Dominica, as per the wire transfer receipt. The transfer showed that Paxum Bank was the beneficial owner.&nbsp;

But, a promissory note identified ES Family Trust as the lender. And two months later, the second payment of $6 million arrived in Trump Media’s account from ES Family Trust.&nbsp;

The report said that even though these two payments to the company came from separate entities, Angel Pacheco,&nbsp;a trustee of the ES Family Trust,&nbsp;appeared to have simultaneously been a director of Paxum Bank.

The Russian connection in this investigation centred on Anton Postolnikov,&nbsp;a part owner of the bank. Postolnikov appeared to be a relation to Russian President Putin's ally Aleksandr Smirnov. Smirnov worked in the Central Office of the Russian government until 2017. And before this, Smirnov was the country's first deputy minister of justice until 2014.&nbsp;

Former fixer of Donald Trump Michael Cohen on Monday testified in front of a grand jury in New York, as prosecutors came closer to deciding whether the former president must be charged for paying hush money to a porn star.

If an indictment is filed by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg against Trump, it would be the first time that the former US president is charged with committing a crime.

The decision would shockwaves across the United States and Trump's bid for the Republican nomination to fray in the 2024 presidential election will be upended.

"My goal is to tell the truth," Cohen said to the reporters as he reached a courthouse for his testimony, further stating that Trump "needs to pay for his dirty deeds”.

Cohen's lawyers confirmed that his client was going through a questioning session.

The investigation of Bragg is centred on a $130,000 payment which was made to an adult film actress known as Stormy Daniels, two weeks before the presidential election of 2016 was held.

The huge sum was allegedly transferred to Daniels, whose actual name is Stephanie Clifford, to stop her from disclosing to the media and the public about the affair she had with Trump years earlier.

The amount was transferred by Cohen, who was then the former lawyer of Trump, who said that he later received a reimbursement.

The appearance of Cohen comes after the New York Times and Washington Post last week reported that an opportunity to testify was offered to Trump by Bragg's team.

In 2018, Cohen was sentenced to three years imprisonment on federal charges in relation to the hush payment. Cohen had pleaded guilty but claimed that he was carrying out orders given by Trump.

Trump continues to deny the affair and last week called the New York investigation "a political Witch-Hunt, trying to take down the leading candidate, by far, in the Republican Party."

Former US president Donald Trump and his publisher said on Thursday (March 10) that the former president will release more than 150 letters from giants of world history like Richard Nixon, Kim Jong Un and even media personalities like Oprah Winfrey.

The "Letters to Trump" collection captures "incredible, and oftentimes private" correspondence between Trump and foreign leaders, media personalities, athletes and captains of industry.&nbsp;

"What do presidents, royals, celebrities, and business titans have in common? They all love Donald Trump," Winning Team Publishing founder Sergio Gor said in a statement to AFP.

"Long before entering politics, Donald Trump lived an extraordinary life. No book highlights his iconic relationships like 'Letters to Trump,' and we are thrilled to be able to share it with our readers."&nbsp;

The book is due to be released next month. It spans forty years of correspondence which would reveal instances like Winfrey telling the now-76-year-old leader back in 2000: "Too bad we're not running for office. What a team!"

The TV mogul had written to Trump -- who is running to be the next president -- after he sent her an excerpt from his book&nbsp; 
"The America We Deserve," in which he said she would be his ideal vice president.

Winfrey, 69, reportedly tells Trump his comments made her "a little weepy," according to US politics website Axios.&nbsp;

"It's one thing to try and live a life of integrity -- still another to have people like yourself notice," she reportedly gushes.

'Incredible letters'

Each letter is accompanied by commentary from Trump, who writes that he considers Winfrey "amazing," according to Axios, but complains that "she never spoke to me again" once he announced his bid for the White House in 2015.

Many of the missives, hand-picked by the billionaire, come from fellow titans of pop culture at a time when he cut a more glamorous, less divisive figure as a property magnate and reality TV star in Manhattan.

Michael Jackson, Clint Eastwood and Shaquille O'Neal all loom large in the 320-page hardback, as does Britain's Queen Elizabeth the Second.

United States President Joe Biden on Wednesday said that Republicans should be ashamed of themselves for supporting Fox News' attempt to play down the seriousness of the Capitol attack that took place on January 6, 2021, after a mob of Donald Trump's supporters gathered outside the Congress.

"More than 140 officers were injured on Jan 6. I've said before: How dare anyone diminish or deny the hell they went through?" tweeted Biden. "I hope House Republicans feel ashamed for what was done to undermine our law enforcement,” he said.

Biden extended his support to the Capitol Hill police, whose chief has claimed that Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson manipulated the video footage of the Capitol attack after Trump faced defeat in the elections.

The January 6 Capitol attack saw supporters of Trump, who were fed for weeks by Trump himself, that the elections were unfair, breaking their way through police lines and roaming inside Congress.

Because of the assault, the constitutional process for certifying Biden's election victory was paused, while many lawmakers ran away, fearing for their lives.

New court filings have revealed that Fox News host Tucker Carlson, in a text message after the elections held in 2020, said that he "passionately hated" Donald Trump.

American television host and Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson passionately hates former United States President Donald Trump. This was mentioned in private text messages which surfaced on Tuesday (March 7) amid hundreds of pages of court filings in the $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit filed against Fox News by Dominion Voting Systems.

Carlson, who&nbsp;praised Trump on Fox News several times, now hates him. The private text messages show that the television host was harshly critical of Trump.

“I hate him (Trump) passionately. … I can’t handle much more of this,” Carlson said in a text to an unnamed colleague on January 4, 2021, two days before the Capitol attack.&nbsp;

And in a November 2020 conversation, Carlson said that Trump's decision to snub Joe Biden's inauguration was so destructive. Carlson added that Trump's post-election behaviour was disgusting and that he was trying to look away, CNN reported on Wednesday.&nbsp;

Dominion is suing Fox News for allegedly damaging the voting company and American institutions by promoting false claims of election rigging to the news channel's audience following the 2020 presidential election.&nbsp;

The news channel has denied any defamation and has accused Dominion Voting Systems of dishonesty. According to a statement, Fox News said that the voting company was caught "red-handed" using more distortions and misinformation in their PR campaign to smear the channel and trample on free speech and freedom of the press, a report by the Global News on Wednesday said.&nbsp;

“We already know they will say and do anything to try to win this case, but to twist and even misattribute quotes to the highest levels of our company is truly beyond the pale,” Fox News added.&nbsp;

Former United States (US) First Lady Michelle Obama opened up about how she felt on the day of then-President Donald Trump's inauguration in January 2017. She shared her experience on the "Michelle Obama Light Podcast" (by Audible) on Tuesday (March 7).

"That day was emotional for so many different reasons. We were leaving the home we had been in for eight years. The only home our kids really knew. They remembered Chicago, but they had spent more time in the White House than anywhere else," Obama said.&nbsp;

“There were tears, there was that emotion. But then to sit on that stage and watch the opposite of what we represented on display – there was no diversity, there was no colour on that stage, there was no reflection of the broader sense of America," she added.&nbsp;

Obama said the family then went to the Andrews Air Force Base, said goodbye to the military, and got on Air Force One. "And when those doors (of Air Force One) shut, I cried for 30 minutes straight. Uncontrollable sobbing," Obama also said during the podcast.&nbsp;

Since leaving the White House, Michelle Obama has revealed details about her mood on the day of Trump's inauguration. According to a report by ABC news, Obama said in her book that she was unable to put on a happy face and smile during the inauguration.

In the audio of the book, Obama said, "Someone from Barack’s administration might have said that the optics there were bad, that what the public saw didn’t reflect the President’s reality or ideals, but in this case, maybe it did. Realising it, I made my own optic adjustment. I stopped even trying to smile," according to the report.&nbsp;
