Sean Diddy Combs' lawyers are trying all possible ways to get the disgraced music mogul out of jail. Diddy's team of of lawyers sent a letter to a judge who is scheduled to decide on the rapper's bail bid request for Thanksgiving on Monday referring to President-elect Donald Trump's federal criminal case.

In a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian on Friday, the music mogul's attorneys argued that Combs' remarks on social media and other public platforms are shielded by the First Amendment and ought to be subjected to the “most demanding scrutiny,” much like in Trump's case involving presidential immunity.

“The Court should apply Trump’s heightened standard when considering Mr. Combs’ speech here,” they wrote.

The Supreme Court examined whether Trump was immune from felony charges for acts committed while in office in the case of Trump v. United States.

Combs' attorneys stated that the court in Trump's case determined that speech restrictions are justified only when there “is a significant and imminent threat to the administration of criminal justice.”

According to them, the rapper has a “greater constitutional claim” than other participants in the trial to voice his disapproval and criticism of the prosecution.

Combs' attorneys stated that the court in Trump's case determined that speech restrictions are justified only when there “is a significant and imminent threat to the administration of criminal justice.” According to them, the rapper has a “greater constitutional claim” than other participants in the trial to voice his disapproval and criticism of the prosecution. The team of lawyers also cited a video that was uploaded to Combs' Instagram account showing his children calling him while he was behind prison and extending him good wishes on his birthday. Meanwhile, the prosecutors referred to his birthday post, and stated that the “defendant’s intent could not be clearer: he expressly wanted to interfere with the jury pool in this case through a targeted, public, social media post, and he caused his family members to make the post.” In response, Combs' attorneys stated in the letter that the government's claims that he should not ask his children to post birthday wishes on a social media platform “are, quite simply, an unconstitutional attempt to silence him.” Diddy’s previous attempts at getting bail This isn't Diddy's first attempt at obtaining bail.
'Neck-and-neck' was the keyword ahead of the November 5 elections in the US, with most opinion pollsters predicting a tight race between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump. When the dust settled, Trump not only emerged the winner with a considerable margin in electoral votes but also got the popular vote. His Republican party went on to take the majority in both the Senate and House of Representatives, thus sweeping the power trifecta of the world's oldest democracy.

The pre-election opinion polling, while most of it appeared uniform, was practically one-sided.

The polling results were used by left-liberal and pro-Harris media to bolster her candidacy, arguing that the incumbent vice president is 'doing well' among key voting populations like women, the youth and minorities.

Going into the results night, there was optimism in many news studios aligned with Democrats, but the mood quickly changed as Trump went way ahead way early, winning some swing states besides the usual red states.

CNN anchor John King, famous for his enthusiastic fast-paced result analysis using the US map on a screen dubbed 'magic wall', appeared less exuberant as the results poured in, a scene vastly different from his presentation in 2020 when Biden won.

Much before the final results, he said, "Donald Trump is knocking on the door", adding “He’s going to get there.”

There was a meltdown in the unabashedly pro-Harris MSNBC studio. Anchors and panellists at NBC News, ABC News and CBS News, the other major networks generally seen as favouring Democrats, had a worried and dull look on their faces when announcing the results. The focus immediately turned to discussing how horrible a Trump presidency would be.

Several of them shifted their anger to 'misinformation', blaming Trump backer Elon Musk's social media platform X and conspiracy theories spread by Trump surrogates as reasons for the former president's unassailable victory.

All this amounts to telling the majority of American voters that they are dumb.

But it can be argued that it was the opinion pollsters who tried to misguide and make a fool of the voters by peddling the lie that it was a 'neck-and-neck' race.

Ahead of the election, the FiveThirtyEight website, which tracks the mood of the nation, put Harris ahead of Trump after compiling the last batch of opinion polls.

But the difference was minor: she was ahead at 48 per cent while Trump was at 46.8 per cent.

Among these pollsters, NPR-PBS News, Harris X-Forbes [no relation to Kamala Harris or X] and Ipsos-Reuters gave the highest favourability points to Harris, between 51 and 50 per cent. Only AtlasIntel and ActiVote gave similar percentages to Trump.

On the question of whether voters wanted Republicans or Democrats in Congress, the average of all polls tracked by FiveThirtyEight gave Democrats the edge at 46.3 per cent as against 45.6 per cent for the Republicans. That was proven wrong in the final count.

Interestingly, even Democrat-aligned pollsters found that more people have an unfavourable opinion of Kamala Harris - 48 per cent as opposed to a favourable opinion of 46 per cent.

In their calculations, Trump was seen as unfavourable by nearly 60 per cent of respondents as opposed to 44 per cent that found him favourable.

Come election night, most if not all of these observations fell flat in the face of reality.

The punters and financial markets, overall, had more accuracy in predicting the election win for Trump than pollsters, who apparently use 'scientific' methods and mathematical models to reach their conclusions.

Also read: US media suggests Trump’s lead in betting markets could be ‘manufactured’

What could have gone wrong?

'Neck-and-neck' was the keyword ahead of the November 5 elections in the US, with most opinion pollsters predicting a tight race between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump. When the dust settled, Trump not only emerged the winner with a considerable margin in electoral votes but also got the popular vote. His Republican party went on to take the majority in both the Senate and House of Representatives, thus sweeping the power trifecta of the world's oldest democracy. Watch - USA News: Disappointed Americans Consider Moving Abroad After Elections Result × The pre-election opinion polling, while most of it appeared uniform, was practically one-sided. Much before the final results, he said, "Donald Trump is knocking on the door", adding “He’s going to get there.” There was a meltdown in the unabashedly pro-Harris MSNBC studio. Morning brief: Trump's top picks for White House; latest on West Asia crisis; and more

The darling of most American media until November 5, Kamala Harris is suddenly off the headlines. But she will go down in history as the valiant fighter who came tantalisingly close to becoming the first woman US president.

Had she won against Republican President-elect Donald Trump, Harris would have also been the first Asian and Indian-American to occupy the White House.

That was not to be.

One wonders why she lost the election.

While I wrote here earlier that she is unlikely to win (link below), the 226 electoral votes she got against Donald Trump's 312 – the majority mark being 270 – is quite impressive for a late-start campaign.

Also read: Kamala Harris for president: After Biden exits, his vice president enters race, but can she win?

That late start was indeed one of the key issues.

Even some Democrats must have felt that she leapfrogged the proper process – the Democratic primaries – and was thrust into the limelight when incumbent president and Democratic nominee Joe Biden pulled out after days of inner-party squabbles.

How the Democrats ruined it for Kamala Harris

If she were in the Democratic primaries, could her fate have been different?

That's a big if.

Suppose Harris was on the ballot for primaries. Even while being the incumbent vice president, she would have had to criticise Biden, and by extension, her own government.

As it happened, there were no serious contenders against Biden since he formally announced his re-election bid.

His Democratic primary opponents: author Marianne Williamson, Representative Dean Phillips and Robert F Kennedy Jr, exited the race one way or the other.

RJF Jr, from the hallowed and mostly Democratic Kennedy family, was the only temporary jolt for the party machine. Having started as a Democratic contender, RFK Jr switched to independent and eventually pulled out, only to support Trump, and is being rewarded with a role in the upcoming Trump administration.

Biden had an impressive number of delegates going into the Democratic Party Convention in August.

But a lot happened in July.

It was a tight situation for Democrats when, having gone into election mode after Biden won the required delegates to be declared the presidential candidate at the convention, they realised the 81-year-old was not a good pick, after all.

Biden's endless gaffes, slips and falls made many question his physical and mental capabilities to run for the top office once again.

His fumbling and rambling answers during the presidential debate with Trump in June made him look weak.

And then, Democrats went into a tizzy, creating the unprecedented situation of pressurising a candidate, who had done one presidential debate with the opponent, to exit the race.

Media reports about Biden's failing health followed, and Democrat donors threatened to pull campaign cash if Biden didn't exit.

Despite issuing nice-looking health report cards and his own assurances that he's fit to run for office again, many Democrat voters were still not convinced.

Or so the party thought.

Nancy Pelosi, the Democrat dame and speaker emeritus, as well as other senior leaders including, reportedly, ex-president Barack Obama, tried to convince Biden to quit the race.

Eventually, he relented, but in hindsight, that was too late, too little.

Harris campaign: A dash towards defeat

While there were reports of a 'palace coup' in which Harris was already putting in place a team in case Biden decided not to run, the time left for a robust campaign was too little.

In what raised many eyebrows, Biden 'transferred' all the delegates he had amassed to Kamala and her running mate Tim Walz and the Democratic Convention named them the candidates in a 'roll-call nomination.'

The whole thing was mocked widely, particularly in the right-wing media, who painted Harris (it seems successful) as an imposter.

Having a rather forgettable running mate in Walz didn't help matters either for Harris.

Her media blitzkrieg of unusual appearances at TV and web shows were seen by many as ambushes.

The host of Call Her Daddy, a rather non-political show, was criticised for having invited her as a guest.

Fox News ran a campaign on how Kamala didn't address an open press conference, instead choosing to do one-on-one interviews seen as stage-managed affairs.

Also read: Kamala Harris delivers defiant concession speech as Trump wins 2024 presidential election

And then, there were the 'word salads'.

Many of her answers to serious questions were rather convoluted, particularly America's support to Israel in its war against Hamas, and to Ukraine against Russia.

On the Israel question, it emerged that CBS 60 Minutes edited out parts of her interview – or re-recorded it – to make the answer more palatable.

Trump and his surrogates went to town to expose her on these.

Trump, whose track record is anti-war – not because of any noble ideal, but because he doesn't want to fight in or pay for wars where American interests are not directly under attack – criticised US funding to Ukraine's war efforts.

He kept on saying in campaign speeches that he is the only one who could end the wars.

Many uncommitted voters, part of the silent majority, appear to have believed him.

Arab- and Muslim-Americans were particularly riled by the Biden administration's failure to stop the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, which was invaded by Israel after the October 7 terror attack by Hamas.

The Harris campaign's communication efforts were annoying at best and outrageous at worst.

They couldn't advise her not to laugh out loud so much.

That led to 'cackling Kamala' jokes and memes, which Trump and his supporters exploited to the hilt.

There were gems like the advert appearing to suggest women reject Black men if they are not voting Democrat.

In their speeches for Harris addressed to African Americans, Barack Obama and his wife Michelle appeared to come across as condescending.

It was like, here are some entitled African-American leaders telling the Blacks how to live their lives, do their jobs, and vote.

That may have flipped many Blacks to vote for Trump.

On the economy, she appeared out of touch with the cost of living reality of middle-class and working-class Americans, despite insisting on all possible occasions that she comes from a middle-class background.

As practically the immigration tzar of the Biden administration, Harris had not much to boast of.

Many Latin American voters, it appears, may have voted for Trump because they also share the same worries and fears about migration from lawless lands in the continent as much as the white majority who Trump considers his base.

Trump succeeded in making Harris look weak on illegal migration from the southern border, as caravans of asylum seekers poured in.

That leaves us with women and young voters.

Quite stunningly, it emerged as per exit polls that fewer women voted for Harris than they did for Biden in 2020.

Abortion, the main issue Democrats thought would galvanise women towards Harris, did not work.

Neither did Harris' efforts to paint Trump as a dictator and anti-woman.

It might seem improbable, but Trump's escape from an assassination attempt, and his non-committal stance on banning Chinese-owned TikTok may have drawn more youngsters to him.

The TikTok ban move by the Biden administration was a risky one politically. The Democrats didn't understand how much American kids loved the short video-sharing platform. For them, it was a form of communication and self-expression for a generation.

While these may not be the only reasons, it is clear that Trump was preferred over Harris by many in Gen Z and millennials.

Also, note that there was an effort ahead of the Democratic primary to put 'uncommitted' as an option.

This means many of the Democratic voters were not ready for Biden.

It is quite possible that some of them may have voted for Trump.

In summary, while much of the reasons for her defeat had to do with circumstances, Harris didn't help her own campaign.

Now as per custom, the vice president faces the ignominy of signing the document that will declare Trump as the next president after the joint Congress session on January 6, right on the fourth anniversary of the Capitol riots instigated by Trump in rejection of the 2020 election outcome.

Investors betting against Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT) have suffered a staggering $420 million loss, as the company's stock surged dramatically with Donald Trump's election victory, according to a report by financial analytics firm S3 Partners, as detailed in a report by Reuters.

Trump, 78, clinched a decisive win in the presidential race on Wednesday, defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. In the weeks leading up to the election, DJT's stock saw a massive 196 per cent jump, turning the company’s shares into a volatile barometer for Trump’s reelection chances, the Reuters report explained further.

The stock, which tracks his election odds, gained significant attention alongside online gambling platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi, becoming a "meme stock" with a loyal following of retail investors, often characterised by their "diamond hands" mentality—refusing to sell no matter the price fluctuations.

Trump Media, the parent company of the Truth Social platform, is primarily owned by Donald Trump himself. The company operates a social media site and a streaming service. Its stock has attracted considerable short interest, contributing to its extreme volatility.

According to S3, the combination of a small float, heavy short interest, and the fervour of Trump supporters has made DJT highly susceptible to a "short squeeze," where rapid price increases force short sellers to cover their positions, exacerbating the price rise further.

In the days leading up to the election, DJT's stock experienced multiple halts due to wild price swings. On the day of Trump’s win, short sellers faced significant losses, with one report estimating a $77 million loss on 14 million shares at $5.50 per share.

With so many investors betting against the stock, the potential for a continued short squeeze remains high, S3 noted. The report highlighted that this situation makes DJT a key focus for market participants in the post-election period, with its price expected to stabilize closer to Trump’s inauguration in January.

The biggest beneficiary of the stock's meteoric rise has been Trump himself. Since March, his stake in the company has ballooned, reaching as high as $5.2 billion before settling at around $4.1 billion following the election.

The report suggests that Trump's financial windfall from the stock’s ascent, combined with his presidential victory, positions him for significant gains in the months ahead. In the face of these market fluctuations, Trump Media’s stock remains a highly speculative and volatile asset.

United States former president and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has a list of criminal cases, and many people are curious about the future of these legal battles as he returns to the White House.

Trump is the first presidential candidate in history who is contesting the elections with the looming threat of getting imprisoned or being involved in years of legal battles.

Trump took the vow that if he becomes president again, he will fire special counsel Jack Smith "within two seconds". Smith has brought two federal cases against Trump.

The presidential nominee has also claimed that he will punish the judges and prosecutors who were overseeing his cases and will most probably be able to avoid the consequences of any criminal charges that he is facing.

"If he wins, say goodbye to all the criminal cases," claimed Karen Friedman Agnifilo, who earlier worked as the chief of the Manhattan district attorney's trial division, while speaking to ABC News.

"The criminal cases are over, whether it's legally or practically," said Agnifilo, and added that the victory of Trump would be a "get out of jail free card" for the former president.

However, if Trump loses the elections, he will have to face years of court proceedings and will have to spend hundreds of millions in clearing the civil penalties and may also serve in jail.

What will happen to Trump's criminal cases as he wins US presidential election?

Democratic strategist Van Jones says that people without papers are 'going to be scared tomorrow' after Republican candidate Donald Trump won the US Presidential Elections 2024. Trump beat Democratic candidate Kamala Harris with a clear mandate and reached the 270 electoral votes mark with big wins in swing states.

“There are going to be people tomorrow who are going to be handing clothes at the dry cleaners to people who don’t have papers.
