A 14-year-old girl with a movement disorder, general dystonia, died in southern Puducherry state after allegedly consuming rat poison mistaking it for a chocolate cake.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon after the girl, R Saloth Nithikshina, complained of nausea and vomiting. When her mother, Mary, enquired, Nithikshina said that she ate the “cake” kept at the window.

A ‘shocked’ Mary told her daughter that the cake she ate was, in fact, rat poison, following which the girl was immediately rushed to a state-run hospital in Kottuchery.

After administering first aid, the girl was later taken to a bigger hospital in Karaikal where she was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. But despite their best efforts, the doctors couldn’t save her.

The police have registered a case under section 174 (police to enquire and report on suspicious death) of the Criminal Procedure Code and began thier investigation, according to the Times of India newspaper.

The girl was staying at home after she discontinued her studies two years ago due to being diagnosed with general dystonia, police said.

A similar incident had taken place in western Mumbai city last month, where a 24-year-old woman died after mistakenly eating rat poison instead of medicine for stomach ache.

The incident took place on August 13 at 9 pm. Deceased Kajol Pawar, who lived in Sakinaka area of Andheri (East), had rang up her mother over and told her about her stomach ache.

She informed her that she had mistakenly consumed rat poison instead of medicine, and asked for help.

52-year-old Indian mountaineer dies on Mount Kanchenjunga in Nepal  

In an accident, a man was killed after he rammed his car into an 11-feet-long&nbsp;alligator in Florida, the United States. &nbsp;

The mishap occurred after midnight on Thursday, as per a statement of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. &nbsp;

The driver, 59-year-old John Hopkins, was going east on County Road 672 in Lithia, which is about two miles west of County Road 39, when he accidently struck the alligator in the roadway. &nbsp;&nbsp;

The collision made the vehicle go off the road and fall into a ditch. A passing driver noticed the accident and called 911, the sheriff's office said. &nbsp;

When detectives arrived at the scene, Hopkins and the alligator were both dead. &nbsp;

Landy was governor of Victoria from 1 January 2001 to 7 April 2006. He was the final runner in the Queen`s Baton Relay at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, receiving the baton from Olympic teammate and fellow state governor Marjorie Nelson, and delivering it to Queen Elizabeth II.

A passionate naturalist, photographer and environmentalist, he was author of two books - Close to Nature (1984) and A Coastal Diary (1993).

A second child of an Afghan family evacuated from Kabul to Poland died on Friday after eating soup containing death cap mushrooms, which the family had unknowingly gathered in a Polish forest outside their quarantine center.

Authorities are investigating whether negligence could have been a factor in the poisoning last week.

The family of two adults and four children allegedly cooked soup with the highly poisonous mushrooms they found in the forest around a center where they were undergoing a mandatory quarantine. They entered the center in Podkowa Lesna, a small town near Warsaw, on August&nbsp;23.

Prosecutors are questioning the center's staff about the events last week as part of an investigation that could lead to possible criminal charges for negligence and unintentional exposing people to a serious threat of loss of health or life, Aleksandra Skrzyniarz, a spokesperson for the prosecutors' office in Warsaw, said. The offense carries a maximum prison term of three years, she said.

Japanese chemist Ei-ichi Negishi who won the Nobel prize for developing a method for creating complex chemicals necessary for manufacturing drugs and electronics has died aged 85, his US university said.

Negishi died on Sunday in Indianapolis, Purdue University said in a statement on Friday, adding his family would lay him to rest in Japan sometime next year.

The Manchuria-born scientist graduated from the prestigious University of Tokyo and worked at Japanese chemical giant Teijin before going to the United States on a Fulbright scholarship in 1960 to study chemistry. He joined the Purdue faculty in 1979.

In 2010, he won the Nobel Prize for chemistry along with Richard Heck of the University&nbsp;of Delaware and Akira Suzuki of Hokkaido University.

Kolelas, the son of former Prime Minister Bernard&nbsp;Kolelas, came second in the 2016 presidential election. He was seen as the main challenger to President Denis&nbsp;Sassou&nbsp;Nguesso,&nbsp;who is seeking to extend his 36-year rule in Congo.&nbsp;

"I can't give an authoritative day, all I know is people are leaving tomorrow Monday to go and pick up the body," Leo Mugabe told AFP.&nbsp;

"So assuming they get there on Tuesday and the body is ready, logically you would think they should land here on Wednesday," he said, adding that a list of accompanying family members was being finalised.

Once praised as a liberator who rid Zimbabwe of white minority rule, Mugabe soon turned to repression and fear to govern.

He is widely remembered for crushing political dissent and ruining the economy, prompting mixed reactions to his passing.

At Sacred Heart Cathedral, Mugabe's parish in the capital Harare, the priest encouraged congregants to pray for their founding leader.

"I know some of us may have different feelings about it, but it’s our duty to pray for one another," Father Justin Jagaja told AFP. &nbsp;&nbsp;

President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared a period of "national mourning" on Friday, without providing further detail.&nbsp;

The government is expected to announce when Mugabe's body will be returned to Zimbabwe and provide details of the funeral in coming days.

Mugabe's family and Mnangagwa appear to disagree on whether the former president will be buried in his rural homestead Zvimba in a ceremony involving local chiefs, or at the National Heroes Acre -- a hilltop shrine in Harare commemorating guerillas killed during the liberation struggle.

Leo Mugabe refused to comment on the feud. "All I know is (that) we are closer to an agreement if the chiefs meet up with the president and discuss the issues," said the nephew.

He explained that his uncle would have been appointed chief of Zvimba had he not become president.

Zimbabwe's deputy information minister Energy Mutody said the body would rest in Harare.

"His Excellency President ED Mnangagwa has declared former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe a National Hero," Mutody tweeted on Saturday.&nbsp;

"The former President will be buried at the national heroes acre at a date to be announced."

The 57-acre site, presided over by three bronze guerilla soldiers, was later opened up to national heroes in the arts and academia.

The family of Zimbabwean Afro-jazz icon and human rights activist Oliver Mtukudzi also refused to bury him at the shrine.
