The blasts were said to be in retaliation for Hindu activists demolishing the disputed Babri Masjid structure in December 1992 but I have my theory that he was probably more upset by then-finance minister&nbsp;Manmohan Singh's decision to allow full conversion of the Indian rupee on the current account two weeks before the deadly blasts. That probably hit Dawood in the solar plexus of the illegal foreign exchange business called 'hawala' with Dubai as its centre.

Oh, well! We can write racy paperbacks like that. Dawood, besides inspiring writers and filmmakers in Bollywood (including a biopic on his sister Hasina Parkar in 2017), has had such a fall from being an urban Robin Hood to a despised global terrorist that even if he is free, he has no place to hide. There he is, said to be living in Karachi's plush Clifton area, watched by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agents and fearing some arsenic might drop in his sip of liquor, of which he is known to be a loving seeker despite his avowed image as a champion of Muslims.

A slew of screengrabs, by what appears to be the social media account of Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar, took&nbsp;the internet by storm confirming the death of India’s most wanted criminal, Dawood Ibrahim, who, as per unconfirmed reports,&nbsp;has been poisoned and admitted to a hospital in Karachi.

The viral post shared by account anwaar_kakkar said, "The Messiah of humanity, dear to every Pakistani heart, our beloved His Excellency Dawood Ibrahim passed away due to poisoned by unknown. He breathed his last in a hospital in Karachi. May Allah grant him the highest position in Jannat. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un."

However, DFRAC, an independent fact-checking website, calling the screenshot fake, shared a post on X saying that the username in the viral post did not match the official account of Anwaar ul Haq&nbsp;Kakar.&nbsp;

It further said that the parody account had an extra 'k' in the username and that the verified symbol in the screengrab of the Pakistani PM was also fake as the last post that Kakar shared on his official X account was on Dec 16.

In a money laundering case, a special court in Mumbai on Friday placed fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Kaskar in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate till February 24.

The ED, which is undertaking a money laundering probe into underworld-linked property and hawala trades, took custody of Kaskar earlier in the day, based on a production warrant granted by the court.&nbsp;

Kaskar is now imprisoned in Thane jail in connection with various extortion cases.

Because he is a key conspirator and leader of the syndicate, his interrogation may expose critical details that are in their exclusive domain, the ED warned the court.

The ED raided ten addresses in Mumbai earlier this week, including ones linked to Ibrahim's late sister Haseena Parkar, Kaskar, and a brother-in-law of mobster Chota Shakeel.

The ED case stems from a recent FIR filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against Ibrahim and others under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

The Citizenship by Investment Unit applies a multi-tiered system of due diligence, involving both internal and external checks by reputable, top-tier, international due diligence firms based in the United States and the United Kingdom," it said.

The statement added, "These external firms perform thorough checks, including on-the-ground research, to produce exhaustive due diligence reports. In this way, Dominica maintains a firm commitment to professional ethics and ensuring the safety of Dominican citizens."

Dawood Ibrahim is wanted in India to face the law of the land for carrying out serial blasts in Mumbai in 1993, in which scores of people were killed and injured. India has asked Pakistan several times to hand over Dawood Ibrahim.

Ministry of external affairs spokesperson Anurag Shrivastava in response to a WION question said, “Pakistan has never taken any credible and verifiable action against terror entities or listed individuals, including the most wanted ones... Pakistan must take credible action and ensure that the listed individuals are prosecuted."

The development comes even as Pakistan earlier this month issues a Statutory Regulatory Orders (SRO) reproducing the listed terrorist by 1267 committee of UNSC which included Masood Azhar and Dawood Ibrahim. Pakistani foreign ministry later issued a clarification saying that doesn't mean acceptance of Dawood's presence in the country.

MEA said, "Pakistan’s assertion that the SRO does not mean that it admits to the presence of listed individuals on its territory" on these listed individuals "lays bare the insincerity of Pakistan in responding to legitimate expectations" that Islamabad will "track down international terrorists based on its soil".

Seeking to escape from getting blacklisted by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog, Pakistan on Friday imposed tough financial sanctions on 88 banned terror groups and their leaders, including Ibrahim, 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar.

Underworld don Ibrahim, who heads a vast and multifaceted illegal business, has emerged as India's most wanted terrorist after the 1993 Mumbai bombings.

In 2003, the US declared Ibrahim as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. India has repeatedly asked the Government of Pakistan to hand over Ibrahim to India so that he can be prosecuted for the crimes committed by him. It is reported that Ibrahim is based in the southern port city of Karachi.

Pakistan's Foreign Office issued a midnight statement in response to the media reports that Islamabad had admitted in the two new notifications issued on August 18 that Ibrahim was residing in the country.

It said that the SROs (Statutory Regulatory Orders) issued reflect the information contained in the list entry of UN designated individuals/entities. It said the reports in certain sections of the media about Pakistan imposing new sanctions measures, through these SROs, were not factual.

The assertions made by some sections of the media, as to Pakistan admitting to the "presence of certain listed individuals on its territory, based on the information contained in the SRO, are baseless and misleading", it claimed.

"It is once again reiterated that the information contained in the SRO is reproduced as per the details in the list entry of the individuals/entities designated under the two sanctions regime, which is publicly available, and contains names of individuals who despite their confirmed deceased status still continue to be on the sanctions list," it said.

The Foreign Office said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued two consolidated SROs on August 18, reflecting the current status of the UN Taliban and ISIL (Da'esh) and AQ Sanctions list.

These lists contain names of individuals and entities designated under the two sanction regimes established pursuant to the UN Security Council resolutions, it said, adding that the consolidated SROs are issued periodically as a routine matter.

Similar SROs have been issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the past, as per statutory requirements to meet our international obligations. The last such SROs were issued in 2019, the Foreign Office said.

The Paris-based FATF put Pakistan on the grey list in June 2018 and asked Islamabad to implement a plan of action by the end of 2019, but the deadline was extended later due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Though various sanctions were in place against almost all of those listed by the UNSC, the Pakistan government through the new notifications on Friday consolidated and documented the previously announced measures, Pakistani media reports said on Saturday.

The UNSC Sanctions Committee deals with sanctions on entities and individuals declared as terrorists. All states, including Pakistan, are bound to implement the sanctions which include assets freeze, an arms embargo, and travel ban.

It is believed that the latest move by the Pakistan government is part of its efforts to wriggle out of the grey list of the global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog FATF.

On August 12, Pakistan Parliament's lower house passed four bills related to the tough conditions set by the FATF after the government and the Opposition reached a consensus.

The legislation was part of the efforts by Pakistan to move from the FATF's grey list to the white list.

In its third and final plenary held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic in June, the FATF decided to keep Pakistan in the "grey list" as Islamabad failed to check the flow of money to terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The plenary was held under the Chinese Presidency of Xiangmin Liu.

With Pakistan's continuation in the 'grey list', it will be difficult for the country to get financial aid from the IMF, World Bank, ADB, and the European Union, thus further enhancing problems for the nation which is in a precarious financial situation.

If Pakistan fails to comply with the FATF directive by October, there is every possibility that the global body may put the country in the 'Black List' along with North Korea and Iran.

The FATF is an inter-governmental body established in 1989 to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, and other related threats to the integrity of the international financial system.

These terrorists have been barred from transferring money through financial institutions, purchasing of arms and travelling abroad, it said.

The notifications ratified a complete ban on all leaders and members of defunct Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) hiding in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border areas.

Many of Taliban leaders, including those heading the much-feared Haqqani network, have lived in Pakistan since the 1980s, when they were part of the Afghan mujahedeen and allies of the United States to end the 10-year invasion of Afghanistan by the former Soviet Union.
