Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior has signed a new contract with Real Madrid that runs until 2027, the Spanish club announced on Tuesday.

"Real Madrid and Vini Jr. have reached an agreement to extend the player's contract, linking him to the club until 30 June 2027," the club said in a statement.

Vinicius, 23, joined Madrid in 2018 from Brazilian club Flamengo and has developed into one of La Liga's standout players, scoring the winning goal in last year's Champions League final against Liverpool.

His existing contract was due to expire at the end of this season. Local media reported an extension had already been agreed last year, but it was only made official on Tuesday.

The club provided no financial details, but Spanish media reported the arrangement includes a one-billion euro ($1.06 billion) release clause -- identical to those inserted into the contract of several Barcelona youngsters.

"At the club of my dreams until 2027 and for more titles together," Vinicius wrote on his Instagram account. "The biggest and best club in the world."

Vinicius finished sixth Monday in this year's Ballon d'Or voting and also received the Socrates award, named after the Brazil icon, in recognition of his humanitarian work.

Signed by Madrid for 45 million euros as a teenager, Vinicius endured a challenging start to his time in the capital -- scoring just 14 goals in his first three years before a breakthrough 2021-22 season.

Playing alongside Karim Benzema, Vinicius struck 22 times and contributed 20 assists during that campaign as Madrid won the Liga title and a record-extending 14th European Cup.

Manchester United winger Antony could return for Tuesday's Champions League clash against Galatasaray, manager Erik ten Hag said on Monday.

The 23-year-old has not played for United since the first week of September and was withdrawn from Brazil's squad for two World Cup qualifying matches amid police investigations into assault allegations made by his former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin.

Antony has denied any wrongdoing.

Last week, the Premier League club confirmed that Antony would resume training. The club had earlier agreed to allow the Brazilian to take a period of absence.

"Antony will be in consideration. Yesterday was his first time back in team training. We have final training and then we make a decision," Ten Hag told reporters ahead of Tuesday's home game against Turkish champions Galatasaray.

"He will be in consideration, yes... He co-operated fully and it's come out that he's not charged."

The new stoppage-time rules that English soccer has enacted this season to avoid time wasting are "absurd" and will not be used in UEFA competitions, said Zvonimir Boban, the European governing body's chief of football, on Wednesday.

Following FIFA's approach at the men's and women's World Cups, England's referees body said in July officials would add on the exact time lost to goal celebrations, substitutions and injuries.

The aim is to increase the time the ball is in play, with games now routinely going beyond 100 minutes in total.

Manchester city midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester United defender Raphael Varane and global players' union FIFPRO have criticised the new approach, saying it will increase player workload in an already packed schedule.

"It's absolutely absurd," former AC Milan and Croatia midfielder Boban told reporters in Monaco. "Regarding player welfare, it's some kind of small tragedy or big tragedy because we are adding almost 12, 13, 14 minutes.

"When you play 60, 65 minutes - I can speak from my experience, especially as a midfielder - when you get tired, it's the last 30 minutes of the game. And then somebody comes and adds another 15 minutes.

"How often we have spoken critically about the calendar and too many games. We are not listening to players and coaches ... It's crazy. It's too much, so we will not do this. Our guidelines are different."

UEFA's chief refereeing officer Roberto Rosetti backed Boban and said the governing body had been working for five years to increase the time the ball was in play during its competitions.

"There is something more important than the accuracy of additional time," Rosetti said. Why do people like the Champions League so much? Because it's intensive, it's fantastic, the players never stop.

"We tell our referees to speed up the restart of play instead of focusing on stoppage time."

The violence that erupted overnight between Monday and Tuesday outside AEK’s stadium in the northern suburb of Nea Philadelphia left at least eight people injured.

The Greek police have arrested 96 people, mostly Croatian supporters, reports euronews.

It is said that both groups attacked each other with stun grenades, stones, bats and other objects near the stadium.

"Serious incidents took place outside the Nea Filadelfia stadium. A young Greek man was stabbed to death," Greek police said.

The victim, who was 22 and identified by first name Michalis, succumbed to his injuries while being treated at a nearby hospital.

Reports state that the clashes erupted around 30 minutes after the visiting Croatia side left the pitch under police escort.

After the fan’s death, Greek authorities sought the exclusion of all supporters from the match at the Opap Arena.

<h2>Croatia fans bypassed restrictions&nbsp;</h2>

Dinamo fans were officially already excluded under a previous ruling by UEFA.&nbsp;But Croatian media reported that around 200 fans travelled to the Greek capital as ordinary tourists to bypass the restrictions.&nbsp;Dinamo has a far-right fan group, which calls itself the Bad Blue Boys.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic dialled his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis to express his condemnation of the violence, with the Croatian government describing the clashes as “horrific.”

On Tuesday, several people gathered at the site of the fan’s death laying flowers, and leaving church candles and black-and-yellow AEK soccer scarves. Players from AEK, which won the Greek league last season, also visited the site.

<h2>UEFA postpones match&nbsp;</h2>

UEFA says what was going to be the second leg in Zagreb next Wednesday will now be the first leg. The second leg will be held in Athens on Friday (Aug 18) or Saturday (Aug 19).

“UEFA deplores in the strongest possible terms the appalling incidents that took place in Athens last night and resulted in the loss of a life,” it said in a statement.

“While expressing our deepest sympathy to the family of the victim, to AEK Athens FC and its fans, we would like to reiterate that violence has no place in our sport and we expect that those responsible for this terrible act be arrested and consigned to justice in the shortest delay.

Manchester United signed a 900 million pound ($1.1 billion) deal with Adidas on Monday, renewing the English soccer club's partnership with its official kit supplier for 10 more years.

Manchester United, whose U.S. owners have been considering selling the Premier League club, will return to the lucrative UEFA Champions League this year after securing a top-four finish in the domestic league last season under manager Erik ten Hag.

German sportswear giant Adidas became the club's official kit sponsor in the 2015/16 season, reuniting after 23 years and taking over from Nike after sealing a 750-million-pounddeal, which was a record at the time.

"The new deal increases the focus on the Manchester United women's team since their reintroduction in 2018," United said in a joint press release with Adidas.

The new deal with Adidas, ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season starting next month, will continue the partnership until June 2035, the northwest England-based club said.

The original agreement with Adidas links a part of the yearly payments to the club's participation in the Champions League, according to the company's latest annual report.

A failure by the club to play in the Champions league for two or more consecutive seasons reduces its annual payments by 30% of the applicable amount, according to the deal.

United did not immediately comment on the terms of the new deal. Adidas declined to comment.

"We will combine tradition and innovation to please both the players and the fans," Adidas CEO Bjorn Gulden said.

Last month, the 20-times English soccer champions raised their annual profit and revenue forecasts.

Milan was a genuine passion for Berlusconi but his success as owner and the modern image he gave the club was a formidably effective communication tool that he used in the service of his business and political career.

Some of his teams made history, such as Arrigo Sacchi's revolutionary and all-conquering side of the late 1980s and his successor Fabio Capello's outfit which hammered Barcelona's "Dream Team" 4-0 in the 1994 Champions League final – the third European crown of the Berlusconi era.

During that period some of the game's greatest players wore Milan's famous red and black kit – from flying Dutchmen Marco Van Basten, Ruud Gullit and Frank Rijkaard to the likes of homegrown heroes Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini.

But success had a price, and in an era when players changed clubs far less frequently than they do now, Berlusconi was among the pioneers of the modern-day football business.

One of the most notorious signings of the Berlusconi era was Gianluigi Lentini, a rampaging winger bought for a world-record fee in 1992 from a Torino team being dismantled at the same rate as their controversial owner Gian Mauro Borsano's finances imploded.

Lentini failed to shine on the bigger San Siro stage and the summer after a poor display in the 1993 Champions League final loss to Bernard Tapie's Marseille a major car accident signalled the beginning of the end.

Milan won the Champions League two more times this millennium as their star-studded teams beat Italian rivals Juventus in 2003 and then Liverpool in 2007, although that was two years after they lost an epic final to the Reds on penalties after letting slip a three-goal half-time lead.

The 2011 Serie A title was the last major honour won under Berlusconi, who with AC Milan in seemingly terminal decline sold his majority stake to Chinese businessman Li Yonghong six years later for more than 700 million euros ($754 million at today's conversion rates).

Success didn't return to the red and black half of Milan until last season's Scudetto, won under the more parsimonious ownership of American investment fund Elliott, who took control of the club when Li Yonghong failed to pay debts.

On his departure, Berlusconi acknowledged in a message to fans that the ownership of football clubs had moved into another financial dimension: "To be competitive at the highest level of modern football requires investment and resources that a single family can no longer take on."&nbsp;

Remaining a fan of the team "my dad taught me to love as a kid", he nonetheless took a tiny portion of the money he earned selling Milan to purchase then third-tier Monza in 2018.&nbsp;

He vowed to take Monza to Serie A and with the help of his long-time right-hand man Adriano Galliani the team based near Milan reached the top flight for the first time in their history last season.

Monza are guaranteed another season in the top division after finishing the just-completed campaign in 11th position.

Manchester City reached the “Promised Land” in the early hours of Sunday, June 11 morning as they clinched a historic treble by beating Inter Milan 1-0 in the final of the Champions League. Boosted by the firepower of multiple talented players, Spaniard Rodri scored the only goal of the match in the 67th minute to clinch the Champions League title for City in Istanbul. The win saw City become just the second team to clinch a treble of the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League in the same season after Manchester United in 1999.

<h2>City work the magic</h2>

Coming into the contest as the favourites to clinch the Champions League, City did not have the best first 45 minutes. Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne did test Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana in the first half, but could not breach the Inter goal. The Italian side also had their fair share of chances on the counter-attack as they tried to test Ederson, who was caught napping at times. However, Inter’s inability to convert the half chances came back to daunt them.

In the second half, both teams played open football while City had already lost De Bruyne through injury. Edin Dzeko, former City man was replaced by Romelu Lukaku in the 55th minute and could have scored when Manuel Akanji failed to clear the ball at the hour mark. Lautaro Martínez failed to pass the ball to Lukaku when he was one-on-one with Ederson as Inter missed the biggest chance of the match.

However, it was in the 67th minute when the deadlock was broken as Rodri scored from the edge of the box as Inter failed to clear the ball. The Spaniard was unmarked on the edge of the box and scored the goal that clinched the treble.

City would then play with a defensive approach but could have lost the lead in the 70th minute when Federico Dimarco’s effort came off the crossbar, while Lukaku was in his way on the second attempt. Inter still had plenty of chances and in the dying moments missed a golden chance when Belgian Lukaku failed to score with his header. He directed his header straight at Ederson as City were given a massive reprieve.

Pep’s side would then hold on to the lead and clinch the treble which saw him become just the second manager after Sir Alex Ferguson to win the treble of the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League in the same season. Pep has also won his second treble as a manager having guided Barcelona to the same feat in the 2008-09 season. This is also the Spanaird’s third Champions League title having won the holy grail in 2009 and 2011, beating Manchester United on both occasions. He also bagged a domestic treble with City in 2019 when he won the Premier League, FA Cup, and the League Cup.
