According to the South China Morning Post, the incident occurred on March 13 on the city’s Eastside, which has long been associated with Vancouver’s working-class Chinese community.

This happened in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic that has been ravaging the entire planet, and is said to have broken out in China's Wuhan city.

The attack was captured on video that was released with a plea to the public to identify the suspect.

Vancouver police said on Wednesday that the attack was part of a wave of anti-Asian hate crimes in this western Canadian city linked to the coronavirus pandemic.

The victim had just been reported missing by his family when he wandered into a convenience store and encountered his attacker.

The silent CCTV footage shows the small East Asian man being forcefully thrown out of a convenience store by his attacker -- balding with a goatee beard, and heavy gold chains around his wrist and neck.

The old man was unhurt. The victim had wandered into the store, whose staff were trying to help him, “when the suspect began yelling racist remarks at the victim that included comments about COVID-19”.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the gunman, 51-year-old Gabriel Wortman, who worked as a denturist, appeared at one stage to have been wearing part of a police uniform. He had also painstakingly disguised his car to look like a police cruiser.

Wortman shot people in several locations across the Atlantic province, police told a briefing, saying the death toll was more than 10.&nbsp;

Police added they had ended the threat posed by Wortman, who was dead but would not confirm a report by the CTV network that the RCMP had shot him.

One of the victims was RCMP officer Heidi Stevenson, a 23-year veteran of the service with two children.

Police said there was no apparent link between Wortman and at least some of his victims. They said they had no idea what his motivation might have been.

"Today is a devastating day for Nova Scotia, and it will remain etched in the minds for many years to come," said Lee Bergerman, commanding officer of the RCMP in Nova Scotia.

The massacre was the worst of its kind in Canada since a gunman killed 15 women in Montreal in December 1989. Mass shootings are relatively rare in Canada, which has tighter gun control laws than the United States.

Nova Scotia, like the rest of Canada, is under a stay-at-home order because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Police discovered the killings late on Saturday after reports of shots at a house in the small coastal town of Portapique, about 130 km (80 miles) north of the provincial capital, Halifax.

"When police arrived on the scene, members located several casualties inside and outside of the home," said Chris Leather, the Nova Scotia RCMP`s criminal operations officer.

Several buildings in the town were ablaze and police exchanged gunfire at one point with Wortman. Probes subsequently disclosed he had also killed people in several other locations.

"We`re not fully aware of what (the) total might be," said Leather.

At one juncture on Saturday evening, Wortman "appears to have been wearing - if not all - then a portion of a police uniform," Leather said. But he did not specify whether the suspect had been disguised as an officer when the killings occurred.

"The fact that this individual had a uniform and a police car at his disposal certainly speaks to it not being a random act," Leather said.

According to the websites of the Denturist Society of Nova Scotia and the province`s Better Business Bureau, Wortman operated a denture clinic in Dartmouth, close to Halifax.

In response to a question, Leather said police would look at a possible link to the coronavirus outbreak, which has forced the closure of non-essential businesses.

Portapique residents said the first sign of trouble occurred on Saturday night when police urged everyone to stay indoors. One man said he saw at least three separate fires.

A resident said she had come across two burning police vehicles while out driving on Sunday.

"There was one officer we could see on the scene and then all of a sudden, he went running toward one of the burning vehicles," Darcy Sack told the CBC.

"We heard gunshots," she added. Television footage from Portapique showed two burned-out vehicles on a road.

Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil decried "one of the most senseless acts of violence in our province`s history."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said his government would help Nova Scotians "as they heal from this tragedy."

According to the Tokyo Olympics' organisers, the games will begin on schedule despite the global pandemic extending its roots across the globe.&nbsp;

The Olympics will begin on July 24 whereas the Paralympics will begin on August 25.

The report was immediately dismissed by Iran's health ministry. &nbsp;

The People's Mujahedin, an exiled organisation that Tehran considers a terrorist group, claims that the epidemic has killed "more than 300" while infecting up to 15,000 across the country.

Six epidemiologists based in Canada used a mathematical model to estimate that there have been more than 18,000 cases on Iranian soil.

Their calculations -- not yet peer-reviewed -- take into account the number of cases in other countries that originated from Iran.

"When a country exports cases to other destinations it's very likely that the burden of infection in this country is significant", according to Isaac Bogoch, coauthor of the study and a specialist in infectious diseases at the University of Toronto.

'Position of weakness'

This week, Reporters Without Borders added its own criticism of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/mike-pompeo-warns-iran-not-to-be-spoiler-in-afghanistan-283390">Tehran's handling of the outbreak</a>, accusing the government of stifling news on the spread of the virus.

"The authorities insist they have the situation under control but they have... obstructed journalists trying to cover the story," the media advocacy group said in a statement.

"In Iran, for example, they started detecting patients based on death. So if you calculate the case/fatality rate that way, it is going to be very high," said Cecile Viboud, an epidemiologist at the National Institutes of Health in the United States.

Whatever the reliability of official figures, Iran is certainly one of the main centres of contamination outside China.

The situation is aggravated by an economic crisis, as the country grapples with the effect of Washington re-imposing sanctions in 2018 -- a move that hit oil exports and provoked a recession.

"Why did Iran not stop flights to China? There is a rational explanation -- China is one of the last countries buying their oil. They need to maintain the economic link," Coville said.

"With the sanctions, we can say that the government has lost at least 30 per cent of its budget revenues. This has inevitably had an impact on their health system," he added.

Situated at a geographical crossroads in the Middle East and surrounded by countries with creaking infrastructure and challenging humanitarian conditions, Iran's situation gives cause for worry.

"This is concerning, both for public health in Iran itself, and because of the high likelihood for outward dissemination of the epidemic to neighbouring countries with lower capacity to respond to infectious diseases epidemics", the Canadian study concluded.

Protein-rich pulses are a staple of the Indian diet, and Canada is the world’s top exporter of peas and lentils.

India's record imports of 6.6 million tonnes of pulses in the 2016/17 fiscal year prompted Canadian and Australian farmers to expand production but New Delhi introduced import curbs the following year, hurting overseas producers.

David Marit, agriculture minister of Canada's Saskatchewan province, said India's trade policy flip-flops fuelled uncertainty among Canada's farmers.

Saskatchewan is Canada's biggest pulses producer.

"We would like to see consistency and transparency in market access," Marit told reporters on the sidelines of the Pulses Conclave, an industry conference.

In the 2016/17 fiscal year, Canada shipped a record 2.4 million tonnes of pulses but last year Canadian imports dropped to 121,861 tonnes.

Record imports led to a drop in domestic prices in 2016/17. India then raised import taxes on some pulses to as high as 50% and introduced import quotas for others such as yellow peas, green gram and chickpeas.

The import restrictions unnerved India's traditional suppliers who grow pulses to meet the country's annual requirements.

After reaching India with her parents, she found her love and is&nbsp;now getting married to complete Indian customs.

However, the marriage has taken place at such a time when the deadly coronavirus which originated&nbsp;in China has claimed 425 lives all across the globe.

The marriage kept the entire health ministry of Madhya Pradesh on its toes.

When the bride's parents arrived in Mandsaur, a team of five or six paramedics examined them thoroughly to prevent the spread of the quarantine in India.

“Though they do not have any symptoms of the coronavirus, we have been doing this as a precautionary measure. The moment we see any symptom, we will admit them to the hospital,” said Dr AK Mishra, a civil surgeon at Mandsaur's district hospital.&nbsp;

On Sunday, India had temporarily suspended e-visa facility for Chinese travellers and foreigners based in China because&nbsp;of the coronavirus outbreak that has spread to 25 countries, including India.

Shibo Wang, the father of Zi Hyo, said India is a great country and&nbsp;he is impressed with its hospitality.

Jin Guan, Hyo's mother&nbsp;said&nbsp;that her daughter and Siddharth have a very good understanding and she is confident that her daughter will be happy with him.

Ji Hao explained how she came close to Siddharth due to his&nbsp;helpful nature and although Indian wedding customs are different from the traditional ways of China, she loved them to such an extent that she hopes that they will spend most of her time in India.

Siddharth's father Ved Mishra said that he got to know about their son's&nbsp;Chinese connection&nbsp;by monitoring Siddharth&nbsp;activities on Facebook.&nbsp;

He arrived in Canada to meet his son's lady love&nbsp;and spoke to her parents in China via video calling.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday denied having spoken "directly" with Queen Elizabeth about the security costs, after British media reports that the country had offered to foot the bill.&nbsp; 
 
"Discussions continue to be ongoing and I have no updates at this moment," Trudeau told a news conference. 
 
Canadian media have estimated the cost of protecting the couple and their eight-month-old son Archie at about Can$1.7 million (US$1.3 million) a year. Other estimates run higher. 
 
Britain's Justice Secretary Robert Buckland said there must be a "line of delineation" over who pays the security costs. 
 
Asked whether British taxpayers should fund the Sussexes while they are in Canada, he told Sky News television: "I don't have an easy answer to that."
