"Look, I will say this was a matter of shared intelligence information. There was a lot of communication between Canada and the United States about this, and I think that's as far as I'm comfortable going,” he added.<br />

Further speaking about how the diplomatic escalation between India and China is being interpreted by the US, Cohen said that the US "takes very seriously these allegations."<br />

"And, you know, if they prove to be true, it is a potentially very serious breach of the rules-based international order in which we like to function," he stated.</p>

<p>India's National Investigation Agency has confiscated the properties of banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) chief&nbsp;Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in Amritsar and Chandigarh, media reports said. The confiscated properties include 46 kanal of agricultural property in the ancestral village Khankot, located on the outskirts of Amritsar district.</p>

<p>Another property that is confiscated by India's law enforcement agency is his house no. 2033 in Sector 15-C, Chandigarh. After confiscation, Pannun lost rights to the property and the property now belongs to the government.&nbsp;In 2020, his properties were attached, which meant he could not sell them.</p>

<p>The central agency also pasted a property confiscation notice outside a house belonging to slain Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, in Bharsingh Pura village of Jalandhar district.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is a designated terrorist in India. Earlier, after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau insinuated connections between the Indian government and the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Pannun threatened the Hindus living in Canada to leave the country and announced a fresh referendum and vote asking if the Indian high commissioner was responsible for the assassination of the Khalistani terrorist.</p>

Pro-Khalistan Sikhs have always been loyal to Canada. They have always sided with Canada and uphold the laws and constitution," Pannun was heard saying in the 45-second video.</p>

<p>"On October 29, the shaheed (martyr) Nijjar referendum is happening in Vancouver. I urge all Canadian Sikhs to be in Vancouver on October 29, to vote on: Is the Indian High Commissioner Responsible for the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar," he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier, his SFJ outfit vowed to hold protests and shut down Indian consulate offices in Canada in the coming week, Canadian media outlet Global News reported. &nbsp;</p>

<p>“We will not allow the Indian consulates to function and we’re going to push the Canadian government to name the individuals who are responsible for assassinating and giving the orders to hit Nijjar,” Khalistani radical Gurpatwant Singh Pannun from Sikhs for Justice told the outlet.&nbsp;</p>

<p>His briefing came even as it was reported&nbsp;that visiting US President Joe Biden discussed the matter with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his trip to New Delhi earlier this month to attend the G20 Summit.</p>

<p>Briefing the reporters on Thursday (Sept 21), Sullivan said Washington believes in its principles, regardless of what country is affected, while responding to a question about whether the US is concerned over the allegations.</p>

<p>"It is a matter of concern for us. It is something we take seriously. It is something we will keep working on, and we will do that regardless of the country," Sullivan told reporters at the White House.</p>

<p>"There's not some special exemption you get for actions like this. Regardless of the country, we will stand up and defend our basic principles and we will also consult closely with allies like&nbsp;Canada&nbsp;as they pursue their law enforcement and diplomatic process."</p>

<p>Citing three people familiar with the discussions at the summit, the publication said several&nbsp;members of the Five Eyes - an intelligence-sharing alliance of US, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, raised the issue with PM Modi. Owing to Trudeau's affinity towards the separatist movement brewing in Canada, the Modi government has maintained its distance from his liberal government for some years now.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Trudeau received&nbsp;meagre media coverage during the trip and only managed to hold a bilateral with his counterpart on the last day of the summit where he was given a dressing down. <p>The survey revealed that only 31 per cent of Canadians now prefer him as their leader, while 40 per cent threw their weight behind the conservative heavyweight Pierre Poilievre.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ipsos CEO Darrell Bricker said this gap shows the Conservatives could form a majority government if an election was held today.</p>

<p>“When you take a look at why Canadians are feeling the way they are right now, [there’s] real dissatisfaction with the direction of the country. Particularly when it concerns the big issues that are on their personal agendas,” Bricker said, citing the cost of living, access to housing and inflation.</p>

<h2><strong>Change in Liberal Party</strong></h2>

<p>While Justin Trudeau maintains that he will lead his Liberal Party in the next elections as well, a whopping 60 per cent of Canadians believe he should think otherwise.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This number is up from 54 per cent registered in December last year.</p>

<p>On the provincial level, Poilievre's popularity surpasses all others, except for Quebec.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The poll reveals that Poilievre has taken the lead as the preferred prime minister in Ontario, with 42 per cent support, compared to Trudeau's 38 per cent.</p>

<p>It is pertinent to note that after an RCN is issued by Interpol, a country is bound to arrest and deport the accused back to his/her homeland. However, Canada did not do so in Nijjar's case.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per reports, during talks with Canada, the Indian government had raised concerns over Nijjar's citizenship being approved by the authorities, months after the very first Red Corner Notice was issued against him on November 14, 2014. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The first RCN was issued after a case (FIR No. 159) was registered against Nijjar at the Kotwali police station, Patiala, by the Punjab Police. The second RCN was issued in FIR No. 19 lodged at the Nurpur police station, Ropar, in 2016, reported The Tribune.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Canada’s Immigration Minister Marc Miller took to social media platform X, on Tuesday (September 19), and shared a post saying Nijjar was granted citizenship on March 3, 2015. Later he stated that the Khalistani terrorist became a Canadian citizen on May 25, 2007.</p>

Canada granted citizenship to Nijjar despite Red-Corner Notice issued against him: Report

<p>The Indian foreign ministry, on Thursday (September 21), asked Canada to cut down on its diplomatic presence in the country.</p>

<p>This statement by External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi came in the midst of strained diplomatic ties between the two countries after Ottawa accused New Delhi of killing a Khalistani separatist on Canadian soil.</p>

<p>Bagchi, during a presser, said that the size of Canadian diplomatic staff in India is larger than that of New Delhi in Canada, further adding that there should be a parity in strength and rank equivalency in the joint presence.</p>

<p>"We have informed the Canadian government that there should be parity in strength and rank equivalence in our mutual diplomatic presence. Their numbers here are very much higher than ours in Canada. The details of this are being worked out," he said at a media briefing.</p>

<p>"I assume that there will be a reduction from the Canadian side," he added.</p>

<h2><strong>We'll certainly provide security to all foreign diplomats, says Bagchi</strong></h2>

<p>Amid reports of threats to Canadian diplomats in India, Bagchi said that New Delhi will be certainly providing all security to foreign diplomats in India, and hoped that Canadian authorities would show similar sensitivity to Indian diplomats.&nbsp;</p>

This statement by External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi came in the midst of strained diplomatic ties between the two countries after Ottawa accused New Delhi of killing a Khalistani separatist on Canadian soil.

<p>Thousands of parents and conservative groups gathered around the Greater Toronto area on Wednesday (September 20). The initial demonstrations were categorised under the pennant of the "1 Million March for Children", as per Canada-based outlet CBC News.</p>

<p>As per the group's website, the reason behind organising the protest was to "protect our children from indoctrination and sexualisation."&nbsp;</p>

<p>A 47-year-old woman from Toronto was also arrested by the police over allegedly carrying a weapon to the demonstration. She, according to CBS reports, was charged with one count of possessing a weapon and one count of carrying a weapon while attending a public gathering, said Toronto police.</p>

<p>While speaking to CBC News, one of the protesters, Jane Agosta said that she took part in the demonstration to support her child who was currently in the transitioning phase. She said that she wanted to speak up against the "inflammatory messaging" of the provincial government.</p>

<p>"We spend a lot of time just keeping children safe and loved and accepting of themselves - and to insinuate that we might actually be spending time indoctrinating them is absolutely ridiculous. We just want our children to be safe, loved and cared for," she said.</p>

<p>Counter-protests were also organised in the country with groups meeting at places like Queen's Park</p>

<p>"I was a teacher and I am openly queer," one of the protesters from the group, Kit Etcheverry, said in a conversation with Global News. "I grew up in a household where I wasn't able to be myself until my 30s and it is really important that all children know that there are people that love them and support them."</p>

<h2><strong>Canadian schools release statements</strong></h2>

<p>In separate statements, the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), Peel District School Board (PDSB), Durham District School Board (DDSB) and Halton District School Board (HDSB), said that they all supported the LGBTQ community before the demonstrations.</p>

<p>"We support everyone's human rights and expression of gender," the TDSB statement said, according to CBC News.</p>

<p>"Harassment, discrimination and hate have no place in TDSB. In our schools, we do not tell students who they should be, but welcome them as they are."</p>
