<p>India also expelled a senior Canadian diplomat in a reciprocal move to Canada expelling a senior Indian diplomat in light of the claim of New Delhi's involvement in the killing of Nijjar.</p>

<p>On Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that the allegations made by Canada regarding the "potential links" of India behind the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar are “politically driven”.</p>

<p>"Yes, I do think there is a degree of prejudice here. They have made allegations and taken action against them. To us, it seems that these allegations by the government of Canada are primarily politically driven," Bagchi said while addressing a weekly presser.</p>

<p>Amid the India-Canada diplomatic row over the killing of a terrorist, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar slammed some countries' response to terrorism based on political convenience, in a hard-hitting address at&nbsp;the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Tuesday (Sep 26).</p>

<p>Jaishankar gave the statement amid escalating tensions between India and Canada, which&nbsp;is a safe haven for Khalistani extremists even as it accused India of being involved in the killing of the terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.</p>

<p>Jaishankar also attacked "cherry-picking" by member states when it comes to respect for territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs.</p>

<p>“We must never again allow an injustice like vaccine apartheid to recur. Climate Action too cannot continue to witness an evasion of historical responsibilities. The power of markets should not be utilised to steer food and energy from the needy to the wealthy. Nor must we countenance that political convenience determines responses to terrorism, extremism and violence. Similarly, respect for territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs cannot be exercises&nbsp;in cherry-picking. When reality departs from rhetoric, we must have the courage to call it out," he said.</p>

<p>Last week, the Indian government issued a similar advisory for Indian nationals and students living in Canada. As per the advisory, those planning on travelling to the country were advised to exercise caution.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In view of growing anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes and criminal violence in Canada, all Indian nationals there and those contemplating travel are urged to exercise utmost caution," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The standoff between India and Canada began after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged that Indian agents were behind Nijjar's murder, prompting an angry reaction from New Delhi.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Belarus expects an ‘official apologies’</strong></h2>

<p>“Belarus, where one in three people was killed in WWII, is outraged and deeply insulted by the photos of members of the Canadian House of Commons honoring a Nazi veteran,” said the Belarusian foreign ministry, in a strongly worded statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It added, “We demand that international and public organizations, as well as associations and foundations created in memory of World War II victims, give a proper legal and moral assessment to this incident. We expect official apologies from the Canadian leadership.”&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What happened in Canadian parliament?</strong></h2>

<p>Yaroslav Hunka (98), who fought for the First Ukrainian Division, was welcomed with claps and cheers by lawmakers including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, in the House of Commons.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The First Ukrainian Division was also known as the Waffen-SS Galicia Division or the SS 14th Waffen Division, a voluntary unit that was under the command of the Nazis.</p>

<p>“I am very proud to say that he is from North Bay and from my riding of Nipissing--Timiskaming,” said Speaker Anthony Rota who introduced him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He added, “He is a Ukrainian hero, a Canadian hero, and we thank him for all his service.”</p>

<h2><strong>Rota's apology</strong></h2>

<p>It was not until late Sunday afternoon that Rota – who had also invited Hunka – apologised for the glaring error saying he recognised an individual in the gallery on Friday, and that he had “subsequently become aware of more information which causes me to regret my decision to do so.”</p>

<p>“I wish to make clear that no one, including fellow parliamentarians and the Ukraine delegation, was aware of my intention or of my remarks before I delivered them,” added the Member of Parliament from the Trudeau-led Liberal Party of Canada.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I particularly want to extend my deepest apologies to Jewish communities in Canada and around the world.” However, he did not mention what he was apologising for and did not name Hunka or give any details about the information learned since Friday.</p>

<p>The apology on Sunday also came after the incident drew widespread condemnation from the opposition parties and the Jewish community in Canada.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The move to tackle the extremist activists will be focused in the Indian states of Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana, as well as Jammu and Kashmir, western Uttar Pradesh and Delhi NCR, as per media reports.&nbsp;</p>

This is to intensify the crackdown on Khalistani elements and prevent individuals involved in these illegal activities from entering India.</p>

<p>Reports added that Indian authorities have identified 19 absconding Khalistani terrorists who are currently living in countries such as the US, UK, Canada, UAE, Pakistan, and others. The government is now intending to confiscate their properties under Section 33(5) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.</p>

<p>Previously, security agencies had identified a group of 11 individuals, believed to be a mix of gangsters and terrorists, residing in Canada, the United States, and Pakistan. As per reports, out of these 11 individuals, eight are suspected to be operating from within Canada.</p>

<h2><strong>Government action</strong></h2>

<p>The government's actions are aimed at preventing Khalistani radicals from influencing and radicalising youth to join the movement in India.</p>

<p>This move comes in the wake of the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) confiscation of properties belonging to Khalistani radical Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in India's Chandigarh and Amritsar. It is worth noting that Pannun is a "designated individual terrorist" who is based in Canada and is involved in pro-Khalistani activities against India. He also threatened to shut down Indian consulates in Canada. The report citing sources said that by tightening the noose on OCI, the government hopes to disrupt the financial support network for these individuals in India and prevent their return here from abroad.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The NIA investigation into the Pannun case reportedly revealed that his organisation, Sikhs for Justice, was exploiting cyberspace to radicalise susceptible youth and incite them to engage in terrorist activities, as per the report.</p>
