Having shown great composure in the quarterfinal tie against defending champion Viktor Axelsen, Prannoy led from the front to win the first game 21-18. He even had a&nbsp;11-5 lead in the next at mid-interval and looked on course for a dominant win. However, the game then saw&nbsp;a comeback from Vitidsarn who won the next two games with ease to book a place in Sunday’s final.&nbsp;

In winning the bronze medal, Prannoy became the fifth Indian to win a medal in the men’s singles event at the BWF World Championships. He joins the likes of Prakash Padukone (1983), B Sai Praneeth (2019), Lakshya Sen (2021) and Kidambi Srikanth (2021). Srikanth is the only one to win a silver medal, having lost in the finals of the 2021 championships while the rest ended with bronze medals.&nbsp;

Overall, this is India’s 14th medal at the prestigious championships, with the gold medal being the only piece missing yet.

The Indian men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty crashed out in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Championships at the Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

World No. 2 pair Satwiksairaj-Chirag lost in straight games 21-18, 21-19 against World No. 11 Danish opponents Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.

The duo had a closed first game where Kim-Anders had taken an early lead of 5-1 however, the Indian pair made a comeback 6-4. Indian pair lost by 21-18 at the end.

In the second game, the Kim-Anders were leading by 11-7. A spirited comeback by Chirrag and Satwik had gained them to level the points in the second game. But in the end they lost by 21-19.

BWF World Championships 2023: Indian duo Satwiksairaj-Chirag crash out

Battling an inconsistent form, double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu on Tuesday slipped five places to world number 17 in the latest BWF world rankings.

Ever since returning from a five-month long injury layoff, Sindhu has struggled to string together a series of wins in a week, resulting in a title-less streak this season.

A former world number 2 Sindhu, who had suffered a stress fracture on her ankle during her title-winning run at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, currently has 49,480 points from 14 tournaments.

This is her lowest ranking in over a decade. The last time she was ranked 17th was in January, 2013. She has been inside the top 10 since 2016, having reached a career-best world number 2 in April, 2016.

Sindhu will hope she finds her footing quickly in the Olympic qualification period which ends in April next year, especially after getting the services of Indonesian coach Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, a former All England champion.

The 2019 World Champion, Sindhu had reached the final of the Madrid Spain Masters, her best finish this season. She registered a semifinal finish at Malaysia Masters and Canada Open but made a quarterfinal exit in the next event at the US Open. She is now in Korea for a super 500 tournament.

On Thursday (September 29), China received a&nbsp;big boost as the Asian country&nbsp;is set to host its first-ever international badminton tournament in the post-pandemic era, since&nbsp;2019. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced that the flagship BWF World Tour Finals will mark its return&nbsp;to Guangzhou and the mega event will be held from&nbsp;December 14 to 18, 2022.

In an official release, the BWF said, "The famed red courts of Tianhe Stadium will welcome the top eight players and pairs in each category at the season-ending finale as they compete for their share of the biggest prize pool ever seen in badminton — US$1.5 million."

BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund said he feels that it is the right step, marking&nbsp;elite-level badminton's return to the country&nbsp;after a three-year hiatus. "The HSBC BWF World Tour Finals is one of our most lucrative tournaments of the year and we're excited to partner with the Chinese Badminton Association, Guangzhou City Government, and our principal partner HSBC, to bring the Finals back to Guangzhou," Thomas stated in BWF's&nbsp;official statement.

The medal hopes for India in the men's singles category were dashed after Prannoy HS was knocked out in the quarterfinals of the BWF (Badminton World Federation) World Championship today. In a match that lasted over an hour, the Indian was up against Chinese shuttler Zhao Jun Peng.

According to the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the tournament will not be rescheduled.

"All attempts were made by the organisers and BWF to provide a safe tournament environment for all participants," the BWF said in a statement.

"However, rising COVID-19 cases globally led to complex challenges in managing inbound travel. Thus, in the interests of all players, tournament personnel and the local community's health and safety, the event has been cancelled."

The Singapore Open has become the second consecutive tournament to be called off in view of the pandemic. The Race to Tokyo period will also conclude on June 15 and the BWF said it would provide further details on Olympic qualification at a later date.
