"In the first half we didn't create too much but of course it is what it is," said Guardiola, who pointed the finger at a dry pitch and what he viewed as long grass for his side lacking their usual slickness.

"Ninety-two points is incredible - it is in our hands, we must win our next two games and our next one against Leicester."

Raheem Sterling went close to a second but Burnley defender Ben Mee produced a wonderful goalline clearance to keep the Clarets in the game.

Chelsea and Burnley could face Football Association action following angry touchline exchanges in Monday's <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/chelsea-held-2-2-by-burnley-denting-champions-league-hopes-212835">2-2 Premier League draw at Stamford Bridge</a>.

Chelsea are expected to lodge a formal complaint over comments allegedly addressed by Burnley coaching staff to Blues manager Maurizio Sarri, who was later sent off by referee Kevin Friend.

There was also a flare-up between the teams in the tunnel following the final whistle.

Sarri did not attend the post-match media conference and assistant manager Gianfranco Zola, asked if Chelsea would contact the FA over his fellow Italian's frustrations, replied: "I think there will be a follow (up) on that. Maurizio felt very unhappy.

"We understand it's a football game. You say words because of the adrenaline, but he wasn't particularly happy.

"If Maurizio said that, probably it's something that could have been avoided."

Disciplinary action by the FA, English football's governing body, now appears inevitable although officials are likely to first examine Friend's match report before deciding if further measures are needed.

A tunnel melee at full-time saw Chelsea's David Luiz squaring up to Ashley Westwood, while Antonio Rudiger clashed with Burnley goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer.

Brazil defender Luiz meanwhile was unhappy that his early efforts to make Friend aware of what he said were Burnley's delaying tactics initially fell on deaf ears, although Clarets goalkeeper Tom Heaton was booked for time-wasting in the 32nd minute.

"It is difficult when you see a referee even laugh in your face when you try to speak with him in a respectful way, it is not nice," Luiz told Chelsea's website.

Two goals each for Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane helped Liverpool to keep in touch with Premier League leaders Manchester City with a 4-2 win over lowly Burnley at Anfield on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur substitute Christian Eriksen scored in added time as they snatched a 1-0 win over Burnley at Wembley Stadium to stay within five points of provisional leaders Manchester City in the Premier League.

Sean Dyche's Burnley side looked to have secured a crucial point in their fight to move clear of the bottom three but Eriksen broke their hearts with a clinical finish at the death.

It was a scruffy goal but Dyche was not complaining.

"A goal is a goal. When you find wins and clean sheets hard to come by, 1-0 is a very pleasing result," he said.

"Performances have been suggesting we were getting back to that hardy edge we know we have got. We created chances but it wasn't about that. It was about fight and spirit. We know we can get better but sometimes you've got to grind."

Burnley out of relegation zone with win over Brighton

Manchester United remain distant spectators in a Premier League title race in which Liverpool continue to chase Manchester City but showed plenty of spirit as they twice equalised in a 2-2 draw with in-form Arsenal at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Liverpool also fell behind but stormed back to beat Burnley 3-1 and cut the gap on leaders Manchester City to two points.
