<h2>Bayern secure Laimer’s signing</h2>

"I'm in the right place here," Laimer said in a statement Bayern released on Friday.

"It's a dream come true for me. FC Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world."

"We are delighted to have signed Konrad Laimer... together we will hopefully now celebrate many more great victories and titles,” Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said.

The midfielder won back-to-back DFB Pokal titles with Leipzig and was part of the side that reached the semifinals of the Champions League in 2020. He was one of the main men in former manager Julian Nagelsmann’s squad during his time at Leipzig. Laimer’s contract will run until 2027 and will be expected to compete against Leon Goretzka and other midfielders.

The 26-year-old played 190 games for Leipzig, scoring 15 goals and assisting 19 more in all competitions. He was linked with the German giants for months and was a long-term target before Nagelsmann’s departure from the club in March.

<h2>Bayern bolster ranks</h2>

Having become Bayern’s first signing of the summer, Bayern will look to bolster their ranks and will look to challenge for the treble. In the 2022-23 season, they won the Bundesliga on the final day of the season while they faced elimination from the Champions League in the quarterfinal. Bayer were eliminated in the quarterfinal of the DFB Pokal at the hands of Freiburg while all this happened after Thomas Tuchel took over from Nagelsmann in March.

Laimer will join a star-studded Bayern midfield which includes Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka and fellow Austrian Marcel Sabitzer.

Sabitzer, who will return to Bayern after spending the second half of the season on loan at Manchester United, also joined Munich from RB Leipzig.

Bundesliga side Werder Bremen have signed midfielder Naby Keita on a free transfer from Liverpool, the German club announced on Friday.

Keita's deal with Liverpool expired in the summer and the Guinea international was not expected to renew his contract at Anfield.

"I'm really looking forward to my new role at Bremen," Keita said in a statement.

"Werder is a special club and I know the Weserstadion from my time in Leipzig.&nbsp; The club and the philosophy suit me, it's the right move for me."

Keita signed for Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2018 and went on to win the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup during his five-year stay on Merseyside.

"You have probably heard what we have decided with the supervisory board," club president Herbert Hainer told media in the mixed zone in Cologne where, the club salvaged their 33rd German league title when Jamal Musiala hit an 89th-minute winner.

An hour after the &nbsp;final whistle the club posted a statement on their website.

"Oliver Kahn is no longer CEO of FC Bayern Munchen," it said.&nbsp;

"Hasan Salihamidzic will also be replaced as board member for sport. This was decided by the club's supervisory board. Kahn will be replaced by the current vice-chairman of the board Jan-Christian Dreesen. Salihamidzic's successor is still to be decided."

Dreesen, who was vice-chairman, had announced he planned to leave the club at the end of the season.

"The decision to part with Oliver Kahn was anything but easy for the supervisory board. Nevertheless, due to the overall development, we have come to the decision to make a new appointment at the top of the executive board," Hainer said in the statement.

Bayern's two strong men paid for a tumultuous season in which they went out in the quarter-finals of the German Cup and Champions League and only took the league title when Borussia Dortmund, who started the final day in first, could only draw at home against Mainz.

<h2>What went wrong?</h2>

Salihamidzic and Kahn took the gamble of parting company with young coach Julian Nagelsmann at the end of March and replacing him with Thomas Tuchel, a switch that did not lead to an improvement in results.

Salihamidzic, who is 46, played more than 230 Bundesliga games for the club. He took over as sports director in July 2017 and joined the club's management board in the summer of 2020.&nbsp;

In his time in the post, the club won the Champions League in 2020 and the Bundesliga every year.&nbsp;

Oliver Kahn, who is 53, played more than 420 league games in goal for Bayern. He&nbsp;took over as chairman of the board in July 2021.&nbsp;

He did not make the trip to Cologne on Saturday, officially due to a flu.&nbsp;

Dejan Ljubicic converted from the 12 yards which saw the pendulum swing in Dortmund’s favour. At that moment, Bayern’s draw saw Dortmund clinch the title. However, an 89th-minute winner from Jamal Musiala saw them win the contest 2-1 while Dortmund’s late rescue act saw them pull the affairs at 2-2 against Mainz.

However, the set of results was not enough for Dortmund as both teams ended with 71 points each from 34 matches, and a superior goal difference (+54) saw them clinch the Bundesliga title for the 11th consecutive time.

Bundesliga: Bayern Munich clinch 11th consecutive title in dramatic style after Dortmund's draw against Mainz

Bayern Munich have gone four points clear atop the Bundesliga table ahead of Borussia Dortmund's late match with a dominant 6-0 win at home over struggling Schalke on Saturday.&nbsp;

Dortmund host Borussia Moenchengladbach in Saturday's late game and with a win can cut Bayern's lead to one point with two games remaining this season.&nbsp;

Veteran Bayern captain Thomas Mueller, given a starting berth after being named on the bench in his side's last two matches, settled the home side's nerves early, slotting in after 21 minutes, his first goal in eight matches.&nbsp;

Joshua Kimmich doubled Bayern's lead shortly after, converting a penalty despite losing his footing after Jamal Musiala copped an arm in the box.&nbsp;

Any slim hopes Schalke had of a comeback were snuffed out early in the second stanza, Gnabry collecting a pass from Joao Cancelo and hammering in at the near post scored for the third consecutive match.

Gnabry added another midway through the second half, French teenager Mathys Tel made it five and Noussair Mazraoui scored his first goal in Bayern colours to put the home side on course for an 11th straight Bundesliga title.&nbsp;

The loss leaves Schalke, who had climbed out of the relegation places for the first time since September with last week's win at Mainz, in the relegation playoff spot with three games remaining.&nbsp;

Elsewhere, Union Berlin solidified their hopes of a first Champions League appearance, leapfrogging RB Leipzig into third and going three clear of fifth placed Freiburg with a 4-2 home win.&nbsp;

Union set up the victory with a first-half blitz, Sheraldo Becker scoring twice in two minutes after Kevin Behrens opened the scoring with five minutes gone.&nbsp;

Freiburg's Manuel Gulde pulled one back ten minutes into the second half and&nbsp;a comeback looked on when Vincenzo Grifo chipped panenka in from the spot with 20 minutes remaining.&nbsp;

Becker however snuffed out the visitors' hopes, collecting the ball on the break and finding an unmarked Aissa Laidouni who knocked in Union's fourth.&nbsp;

Bundesliga: Bayern Munich on title course after putting six past Schalke

Borussia Dortmund went top of the Bundesliga table after a 4-0 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt, making the most of Bayern Munich's earlier 3-1 loss at Mainz on Saturday.

A double from Dutch forward Donyell Malen and goals from English teenager Jude Bellingham and veteran Mats Hummels snared the three points for Dortmund, setting up a knife-edged title race with five games remaining.

With Bayern's game finishing an hour before kickoff in Dortmund, the home side knew a win would take them outright first on the table.

Bellingham settled Dortmund's nerves early, collecting a pass from Julian Brandt pass before pirouetting and firing a shot home.

Malen doubled up five minutes later, scoring for the fifth consecutive league match, before Hummels headed in a third &nbsp;just before halftime.&nbsp;

Malen scored his second midway through the second half, again assisted by Karim Adeyemi.

Unlike last week, where Dortmund gave away 2-0 and 3-2 leads against a ten-man Stuttgart to draw 3-3, there would be no late collapse as the home side leapfrogged Bayern into first by one point.

Dortmund have five more matches, three of which are at home, as they pursue their first league title in a decade.

Dortmund manager Edin Terzic said "we showed how well we can play today", but would not bite when asked if his side were on the way to a title.

"It was a really good step in the right direction."

Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner lamented the home side's "brutal efficiency" and has now lost eight from eight against Dortmund.&nbsp;

Bayern Munich overran a hapless Borussia Dortmund to win Der Klassiker 4-2 on Saturday as three goals in the opening 23 minutes helped them reclaim top spot in the Bundesliga and hand new coach Thomas Tuchel a winning start.

The Bavarians, who face Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals on April 11, were in ominous form as they went back into top spot on 55 points, leaving Dortmund two behind in second place with eight matches remaining.

With Tuchel, who also coached Dortmund from 2015-2107, having replaced Julian Nagelsmann on the Bayern bench, the hosts were all over their title rivals from the start.

They went in front thanks to Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel's 13th-minute howler when he completely miskicked his attempt to clear a Dayot Upamecano punt from the Bayern half and saw the ball roll into the net for an own goal.

Despite their uninspiring league form, Bayern remain in the hunt in the league, as well as the domestic and European cup competitions. They brushed aside French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last 16, winning 3-0 across both legs. The German champions will face English Premier League title holders Manchester City in the quarter-finals in April.

Nagelsmann, 35, would leave Bayern after less than two years in charge. &nbsp;The Bavarian side's next fixture is a top-of-the-table clash against Dortmund in Munich on April 1.

"That is now a must-win game for us, because it will be very difficult to win the title otherwise," Nagelsmann said after the Leverkusen defeat.

Despite being in second place in the table, Bayern are enduring their worst league campaign in 11 years with only 52 points from 25 games. They have been defeated three times -- by Augsburg in mid-September, at Borussia Monchengladbach in mid-February and then against Leverkusen. They have also drawn seven games.

Nagelsmann arrived from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 to replace Hansi Flick who had led Bayern to the Bundesliga title, German Cup, Champions League, German and European Super Cups and Club World Cup. Flick then left to take over the German national team. Nagelsmann has a contract at the club until the summer of 2026.

Bayern, who face Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League on Wednesday, are on 16 points as many as Dortmund, with Union Berlin and Freiburg, both on 17, in action on Sunday.

"Had we scored that third goal then the game would have been over," Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann said.

"But then we concede a goal out of a not-so-dangerous situation. We definitely should have defended better. The last two or three minutes, with a player less, it was an open game. It is frustrating for us but that's the way it is. Overall it's a fair result."

Bayern have a strong recent Champions League record against Barcelona, with two 3-0 wins last season along with an 8-2 quarter-final thumping on the way to winning the 2020 title.&nbsp;

The six-time European champions are however fully aware that this Barcelona side is stronger than some of the recent incarnations.

"Worried? I don't know (about that)," Salihamidzic said on Saturday when asked if his side were fearful ahead of Barca's visit.&nbsp;

"We have to shift up two gears, even three against Barcelona.

"Barcelona have top players, play good football (and) 'Lewa' is up front, he uses every opportunity."&nbsp;

Manager Julian Nagelsmann said his side's Bundesliga form will not change the preparation for Tuesday's game.&nbsp;

"I approach the week the way I would have done it if we had won," Nagelsmann said on Saturday.&nbsp;

"We're trying to come up with a good idea for Barcelona, which will be difficult.&nbsp;

"I would have done the same thing if we had won 4-0 today."

After his side's 2-0 win over Inter, Nagelsmann said his side were "looking forward" to taking on the man who scored 344 goals in 375 Bayern appearances.

"I am looking forward to it (the reunion with Lewandowski). Not so much as an opponent because he's very dangerous, but as a person I will be pleased to see him."

Kimmich, a versatile player, at ease in both defence and midfield, was under contract with the German champions until 2023.
