Bayern Munich were held to a 2-2 draw at Freiburg on Friday, an 87th-minute equaliser from Lucas Hoeler giving leaders Bayer Leverkusen a chance to go 10 points clear.

Mathys Tel's 35th-minute stunner had cancelled out an impressive opener from Freiburg captain Christian Guenter, before Jamal Musiala's spectacular solo effort looked to have snared the three points for Bayern.&nbsp;

Hoeler however had other ideas, chipping a volley through a crowded Bayern penalty area and past a helpless Manuel Neuer.&nbsp;

Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel criticised his players' "body language and lack of bite" in the first half an hour, telling DAZN "we played completely without structure and had no discipline and weren't in our positions."

Calling his side "panicky", Tuchel said: "We did things that we've never trained, that we've never spoken about.

"We played like it was the 85th minute and we were a goal down."

Musiala told DAZN he felt "frustrated".

"Since I've been at Bayern it's been in my head that we must win and we hate to lose. &nbsp;We want to win the Bundesliga, we want to win titles," he said.

Bayern have now failed to win away from home in four matches dating back to January in both the Bundesliga and Champions League.&nbsp;

Tuchel's side face Lazio at home in the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday, staring down an early exit with a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Rome.

With just three minutes of regular time remaining, Hoeler held off several Bayern defenders and chipped a volley over Neuer and into the goal.&nbsp;

The rule is incredibly popular among German fans, many of whom value it more than success on the field.

Hailing Wednesday's decision, fan group Unsere Kurve said the "comprehensive, but very peaceful and very creative protests were ultimately the key to success".

The 37-year-old, a World Cup winner with Germany in 2014, has not played since suffering the injury in a skiing accident last December, days after returning from featuring for his country at the World Cup in Qatar.

"As long as nothing happens in training, he will play tomorrow," Tuchel told reporters at a press conference.

"He is delighted, we are delighted, and others will probably be delighted too," Tuchel said with a smile.

Neuer has not played for Bayern since a victory away to his old club Schalke on November 12 last year, just before the World Cup.

The goalkeeper travelled to Qatar as Germany's captain, but the four-time winners were eliminated in the group stage.

But defender Matthijs de Ligt said on Monday the team was eagerly awaiting Neuer's return.

He told reporters Bayern were "very happy that Manu will be back soon" while describing him as "a world-class goalkeeper, one of the best in the history of football".

The club added that it "stands by Germany's Jewish community and by Israel's side; nothing justifies the murder of children and families".&nbsp;

Bayern also quoted Mazaroui as saying:&nbsp;"I condemn all terrorism and terrorist organisations."

<h2>El Ghazi and&nbsp;Atal suspended&nbsp;</h2>

While&nbsp;Mazaroui escaped without any suspension, some of his compatriots have had not the same luck. On Wednesday (Oct 18), another Bundesliga club&nbsp;FSV Mainz 05, suspended&nbsp;their newly signed player Anwar El Ghazi for his pro-Palestinian social media posts.

Mainz issued a statement wherein it said Anwar had taken a position that was unacceptable to the club.&nbsp;

“The decision comes as a result of a since-deleted social media post from the 28-year-old that appeared on Sunday evening. In the post, El Ghazi took a position on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East that was deemed unacceptable by the club," read the statement.&nbsp;

Similarly,&nbsp;Algerian footballer Youcef Atal, playing for Ligue 1 club Nice, was suspended for an anti-Jewish message on social media.&nbsp;

“Given the nature of the publication shared [by Atal], and its seriousness, the club has taken the decision to take immediate disciplinary action against the player, prior to any action that may be taken by sporting and legal authorities,” the Ligue 1 club said in a statement.

The German Football Federation (DFB) has officially sacked head coach Hansi Flick after they were thrashed 4-1 by Japan in an international friendly on Saturday, September 9. The news comes with nine months remaining for the Euro 2024 where Germany are already through as the host of the tournament. The defeat was a spanner in the work for the former European champions as DFB sporting director Rudi Voeller, who coached the side to a 2002 World Cup final against Brazil, will take over an interim role.

<h2>Hansi sacked by DFB</h2>

German FA boss Bernd Neuendorf said the sacking was "unavoidable" after the team's recent run of "disappointing" results.

In a statement, Neuendorf said "with a view towards the European championships in our own country, we need a spirit of optimism and confidence", saying the decision was one of his "most difficult so far."

While Flick’s sacking looked inevitable on the cards, his exit had a piece of history as he became the first manager to be sacked from the national team role since World War II. He is also the only coach sacked from the position when it was created in 1926.

Flick’s sacking could now pave the way for former Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann who is without a job. Nagelsmann was sacked by Bayern in March despite the team competing on three fronts for trophies. DFB is expected to formally contact Nagelsmann for the vacant role while former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner, out of work since May, has also been named as a possible successor.&nbsp;

Leverkusen then put the game to bed with two goals in six minutes -- another for Boniface and one for Germany winger Jonas Hofmann, his first for his new club since moving from Borussia Moenchengladbach.&nbsp;

A late Adam Hlozek goal sealed the clinical victory, which continues Leverkusen's stunning form under manager Xabi Alonso, who took over in October 2022.

After the match, Alonso said the victory was "important for the team, for Boniface, for Jonas and also for me".&nbsp;

"We want to build on that but also stay focused."

Leverkusen's next match after the international break is at Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel wants more consistency from his side after an up and down start to the season and has called on his players to replicate their opening 4-0 league win at Werder Bremen when they face Augsburg on Sunday.

The Bavarians, who won an 11th straight league title when Borussia Dortmund slipped up on the final matchday, kicked off the domestic season with a 3-0 German Super Cup loss at home to RB Leipzig. They followed that up with an emphatic league victory over Werder on Friday and Tuchel wants more of the same.

"We have to accept criticism and to keep working on the things that we had the impression we were already further ahead," Tuchel said this week of their topsy-turvy start. "We want to reduce the number of ups and downs we have during the match and between matches."

He had far harsher words for his players immediately after their loss to Leipzig, saying they looked as if they had not undergone four weeks of intense pre-season training.

"Those (two matches) were an example of how extremely different we can play between Saturday and Friday and we hope, in the positive sense, to bring in stability and reduce that amplitude," added Tuchel.

The arrival of Harry Kane, who scored one goal and set up another on his Bundesliga debut against Werder, has boosted Bayern's hopes of a potential Champions League-winning attack this season.

But Tuchel also wants to sign a defensive-minded midfielder, saying Germany international Joshua Kimmich cannot fill that role as he wants the freedom to be more involved in the game.

Kimmich has said he could play in the position but Bayern may again dip into the transfer market.

Dortmund started with a nervous 1-0 over visiting Cologne thanks to Donyell Malen's 88th minute winner.

Coach Edin Terzic is under far less pressure than his Bayern counterpart, however, with club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke heaping praise on the 40-year-old this week.

Dortmund have a trip to local rivals Vfl Bochum on Saturday while Bayer Leverkusen, who stunned RB Leipzig 3-2 in their opener last week to emerge as potential title contenders, travel to Borussia Moenchengladbach the same day.

Bayern Munich have signed Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro on a free transfer, the Bavarian club announced on Friday.&nbsp;Guerreiro, 29, joins Bayern after seven seasons at Dortmund, where the Portuguese international won two German Cups. His deal with the German champions is set to run until 2026.&nbsp; A Euro 2016 winner with Portugal, Guerreiro will reunite at Bayern with manager Thomas Tuchel, who brought the defender to Dortmund when he managed the club.&nbsp;

"When the call came from FC Bayern, my decision was made quickly.&nbsp;It's an honour for me to play for this big club and I also really appreciate Thomas Tuchel from our time together at Dortmund," the defender said in a statement.

Bayern Munich have been forced to repay over 200,000 euros ($216,560) for failing to meet minimum wage requirements over a five-year period, Bavarian customs authorities announced on Thursday.

The club must also pay approximately 45,000 euros ($48,700) in unpaid social security contributions.

The investigation found Bayern underpaid employees from 2016 to 2021.&nbsp;

The Munich customs office issued a statement on Thursday saying Bayern had employed workers, mostly in the club's youth training centre, on limited hours contracts, but "the actual level of employment was far higher."

"The club did not pay the minimum wage at the youth training centre it operates" the office said in a statement.&nbsp;

In a press release on Thursday, Bayern apologised for the incident, saying "it was never FC Bayern Munich's intention to withhold employees from their legitimate wages."

Bayern said it has cooperated fully with the investigation and has taken steps to ensure similar incidents cannot happen again.&nbsp;
