<p>Amid the ongoing debate on the change of name from India to Bharat, the United Nations has chimed in with a response. Speaking on the issue, Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said the global body considered requests from countries to change their names when it receives a proposal from them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Citing the example of Turkey changing its name to Turkiye under the rule of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last year, Haq said: "Well, in the case of Turkiye, we responded to a formal request delivered to us by the Government. Obviously, if we get requests like that, we consider them as they come."</p>

<p>Notably, prior to departing for Indonesia for the ASEAN-India Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with all his ministers ahead of the upcoming G20 Summit scheduled to be held in Delhi on September 9 and 10.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During the meeting, PM Modi asked his ministers to stay away from commenting on the name change issue. "Do not comment," sources quoted him as saying.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson Sambit Patra posted the invite on X, previously known as Twitter. The invite led to criticisms by the opposition party.&nbsp;</p>

It means that Bharatam, or Bharat is the country that lies to the north of the ocean and to the south of the snowy mountains. Some Hindu texts also referred to Bharatvarsha as part of Jambudweepa.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the latest ebook by Sadhguru, "Bha-ra-ta: The Rhythm of a Nation", he explores&nbsp;the science behind Bharat, India's original name. In one of the interviews regarding his&nbsp;book, when he was asked why "Bharat" matters,&nbsp;Sadhguru elaborated, "Bharat comes from bha – ra – ta. Bhava means sensation. Seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching are different types of sensations. Your whole experience of life is sensory right now. Bha means sensation, out of which emotion arises. Ra means raga or the tune. The tune is not yours – existence has already set it. Now you have to find the rhythm, which is the tala. If you find the right rhythm, you are a fantastic human being. If you miss the rhythm, you get crushed by the process of life."</p>

<p>These are some of the textbook references, but with a rich history, the term can chronicle differently depending on the culture and diversity.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sarma's post on 'X' was interpreted by many as the ruling party's leader's confirmation of reports which claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government is set to bring a resolution to effect a potential change of name&nbsp;during the scheduled special session of Indian parliament later this month.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jairam Ramesh, the leader of India's principal opposition party Congress, also took to X and pointed out that an invite for a state dinner from Rashtrapati Bhawan — the official residence of the President of India&nbsp;— was sent as that from the 'President of Bharat' and not 'President of India', as was the case before.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"So the news is indeed true," Jairam Ramesh wrote on X.</p>

<p>"Rashtrapati Bhawan has sent out an invite for a G20 dinner on Sept 9th in the name of 'President of Bharat' instead of the usual 'President of India'."</p>

<p>"Now, Article 1 in the Constitution can read: 'Bharat, that was India, shall be a Union of States.'&nbsp;But now even this 'Union of States'&nbsp;is under assault," Ramesh added.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>India and Bharat: The names which characterise world's largest democracy</strong></h2>

<p>The word 'India' comes from the word 'Indus', named after Indus (or Sindhu)&nbsp;river that flows through Tibet, India's Jammu&nbsp;and Kashmir, and traverses most of Pakistan.</p>

<p>The Greeks and Iranians called it 'Hindos' or 'Indos' meaning the land to the east of the river called Indus. Following colonial conquests by the Dutch, French, and British,&nbsp;it was used for the country of India.</p>

<p>In an ancient Indian text, <em>Vishnu Purana</em>, the name Bharat finds mention as the landmass that lies north of the ocean and south of snow mountains. It states:</p>

But while the emotional quotient of the story is high, the film also has obscure scenes which completely play to the gallery.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Of course, any Salman Khan movies will have its usual trappings as the star overrides the script, as in some scenes, Bharat breaks into monologues about desh, desh bhakti and nationalism arbitrarily. Like a scene where Bharat breaks into a long monologue about earning in dollars to improve the country's economy and then even sings the national anthem in front of an employment officer or the scene where he tries to compare Africa and India (continent and country) as both poor nations and then breaks into a dance to impress the pirates on board a ship he works in. Such scenes are of course written to bring in the needed lump in the throat, make one feel proud of the country etc- and they completely play to the gallery.&nbsp;</p>

The film redeems itself purely on that basis- on how it captures these sentiments.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Salman Khan, of course, remains the star and lines, scenes are written keeping in mind his persona. But it is Katrina Kaif and Sunil Grover who perform and ably support the narrative. Over the past year, Katrina Kaif has clearly come into her own and now holds her own in big budget films. She shined in 'Zero' and in 'Bharat'too she is a revelation- making Kumud a joy to watch. She is strong willed, ahead of her times and Kaif plays the character perfectly. Grover, who has created a niche in comedy on TV, gets a meaty role as the faithful best friend and doesn't disappoint.&nbsp;</p>
