"CAC does not have much work. We keep talking about CAC. Its work is the appointment of the selection committee and coach. Once you appoint selection committee, it stays for four years and the coach remains for three years," Ganguly said in a press conference on Sunday.

"So, where is a need for having a full-time and all the time CAC," he added.

So, we needed to get clarity about what is conflict and what is not because we do not want to appoint someone and then it gets cancelled due to conflict of interest because that has happened with us and with Kapil Dev and his team."

Indian captain Virat Kohli drew comparisons between the match on Friday to the 2016 T20 World Cup match against Pakistan, saying that it would be nice to play a Test in front of 80,000 spectators, giving “a big boost to all players.”

However, the Indian captain cautioned that day/night Tests should not become the only way for the long format of the game.

"In my opinion, the day/night Test should not become the only way in which the longest format of the game is played because then you are losing out on the nervousness which is created in the first session of the match. You can bring excitement to Test cricket, but you cannot make the longest format of the game adhere just to the excitement," Kohli told reporters.

India is the second Asian country ever to host the match with Pakistan having hosted the first day/night Test back in 2016 against West Indies, which the hosts won by 56 runs.

They have been immune to the charms of day-night tests and turned down an offer to play one last year in Adelaide, where Australia had hosted New Zealand in the first ever pink-ball test in 2015.

"We are just happy that we're the first team to start pink-ball cricket in India."

Innovation brings its own set of challenges, however, and Kohli is wary of exaggerated swing, though he says bowlers too might struggle once the ball gets old.

"The ball does a lot early on, more than the red ball, so it's going to be a challenge for the batters," he added.

"But with the older ball, I don't think it swings that much so the bowlers will have a tough time as well."

At long last, India ready to take day-night test plunge

India will be hosting Day-Night Test match in Eden Gardens of Kolkata, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Sourav Ganguly confirmed on Tuesday.&nbsp;

After Bangladesh agreed to play the Test match, Ganguly has termed the development as the beginning of something special in Indian cricket.

"I'm pleased to announce that our long-term partner BCB has graciously agreed to play a Day-Night Test match. This is the beginning of something special in Indian cricket," BCCI's official website quoted Ganguly as saying.

"It is a priority for the newly elected office bearers and members of Apex Council to take Indian cricket forward. For me as former Captain of India and as the current president of BCCI, Test cricket is of utmost priority and we at BCCI will leave no stone unturned to bring this format back to its feet," he added.

This step comes as the first major decision taken by the newly elected BCCI Chief, Sourav Ganguly.&nbsp;

Former Indian Cricket Captain, Ganguly, took over as the BCCI president and is set to serve for the next 10 months.&nbsp;

The second Test between both the teams will be played as a day-night Test match at Eden Gardens, beginning from November 22.

Ganguly's move comes out as an optimistic step towards restoring the popularity of the game among the masses, hoping that this step will bring the crowd into the stadiums.

"In this effort of ours, Day-Night Test cricket is a huge step forward and we believe it will bring back the crowd into stadiums and a whole lot of young children to the sport," said Ganguly.

"I am extremely honoured that the Eden Gardens will host the inaugural Day-Night Test match and the Cricket Association of Bengal will create a spectacle for everyone to watch," he said.

"I thank the Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan and his team for accepting our request on such short notice. I also thank India Captain Virat Kohli for his co-operation," he added.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah called it a 'great day' and added that it is their first step towards the idea of revolutionizing Test cricket.

"It is a great day for Indian cricket. India will host Bangladesh in our first-ever Day-Night Test match at Eden Gardens. Sourav, myself&nbsp;and our team had an idea of revolutionizing Test cricket and this is our first step towards it," Shah said.

"It was very important to start the process now since India does not play a lot of Test matches after the Bangladesh series. We thank the Bangladesh Cricket Board for accepting our request for a Day-Night Test match on such short notice," he added.

Nazmul Hassan, president, BCB, said both the cricket governing bodies, BCB and BCCI,&nbsp;share a bond that is strengthened by a very long history of friendship.&nbsp;

Hassan also expressed his contentment towards having Ganguly as the BCCI President.&nbsp;

"The BCB and the BCCI share a very long history of support, co-operation and friendship. Ours is a bond of strength and it is very heartening and reassuring for the BCB to have someone like Ganguly as BCCI President who has been an integral part of this journey," Hassan said.

"On that note, I am pleased that we have had a frank and constructive discussion with the players and Team Management. I have received a positive response about playing the Day-Night Test in view of the BCB-BCCI relationship," he added.

Strike by cricketers in Bangladesh's main domestic league had cast doubt on their tour to India which is set to start on November 3.&nbsp;

The strike ended with the top tier cricketers receiving payments almost double and an increase in other expenses.&nbsp;

The Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) selection committee meeting will be held on October 24 to select India's squad for the upcoming Bangladesh series.

"Team selection for upcoming series against Bangladesh is to be held on October 24," a BCCI source said.

Bangladesh are scheduled to tour India to play three T20I and two Test matches commencing from November 11.

India clean sweep South Africa 3-0 in the Test series for the first time as they won the final match by an innings and 202 runs in Ranchi on Tuesday. Since the ICC World Cup semifinal exit, India are playing back-to-back series.

According to the source, the selection panel will also decide whether Virat Kohli will feature in the series or will be given rest as he is playing extensively after the World Cup.

"This meeting will be crucial as its happening right after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of BCCI. Captain Virat Kohli who is playing continuously will be given rest or not is still a question because as of now there is no confirmation from the selection panel. Also, Sourav Ganguly is likely to meet Kohli on the sidelines of the meeting," the source added.

On Monday, Bangladesh cricketers have decided not to take part in any cricket activity until their demands are met.

The Indian cricket board has launched investigations into suspected match fixers who approached a member of the women's national team and players in a regional Twenty20 league, its anti-corruption head said on Tuesday.

A case has been registered against two suspects in Bengaluru after they approached a member of the Indian women's team, Ajit Singh, the head of the Anti-Corruption Unit at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), told Reuters by telephone.

"She was approached before a home series by people who expected her to be part of the India squad and wanted her to play according to their script," Singh said without identifying the player.

"She asked them to call to another number, recorded the conversation and reported the approach to us," Singh said.

In another incident, several players in this year's Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) were approached by suspected fixers.

"We are trying to find out what their purpose was. They tried to contact through social media. The moment these players realised something was wrong, they cut out the approaches and reported to us," Singh said.

Singh said no player was being probed.

"I consider it a success of our education programme that in both cases, the players did the right thing by reporting the approaches.

Indian Premier League (IPL), BCCI's showpiece Twenty20 competition, was blighted by illegal betting with former India paceman Shanthakumaran Sreesanth handed a ban following a spot-fixing scandal in 2013.

Indian board probes match fixing approaches in women's game and regional league

As India and South Africa get ready to face each other in the first T20I of the three-match series, skipper Virat Kohli lauded wicket-keeper batsman, MS Dhoni, saying 'he always thinks about Indian cricket and there is no replacement for experience'.

"Initially it was hard to believe. It is a very gracious gesture. You do not think about that as a cricketer, but for someone to give you that honour, it feels special," Kohli stated.

Talking about the upcoming series, Kohli said the side wanted to give opportunities to guys who have been performing well in the domestic circuit for the past two to three years.

MS Dhoni always thinks about Indian cricket, says Virat Kohli

India wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik on Sunday tendered an unconditional apology for violating Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) central contract clause.

Karthik was handed a showcase notice by the board for watching the match between Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on September 4 in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

He was spotted in the TKR dressing room, wearing the team jersey.

"I have not participated in TKR in any capacity. During the 1st TKR game on September 4, Brendon McCullum had invited me to watch the game from the dressing room, which I did &amp; also wore TKR jersey. I wish to tender my unconditional apology for not seeking permission from BCCI prior to embarking on his visit," Karthik said in a letter addressed to the board.

"My coming to Trinidad was at the invitation of head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, Brendon McCullum, who also happens to be the head coach of TKR. He felt that it will be useful for me as a captain of KKR, to come for some discussions with him in regard to KKR," he added.

The BCCI had issued a notice to Karthik on September 6 for allegedly violating guidelines of his central contract.

The BCCI contracts do not allow any player to participate or be present at any other sporting activity without taking permission from the board. The player was given a week to respond to the charges.

It is important to note that the owners of Karthik`s Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders also own Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL.

Karthik last played an international match in the recently concluded World Cup. He played the semi-final game against New Zealand, which the team eventually lost.

After that, he was dropped from the team squad for the limited-over series leg against West Indies.

Recently, he was appointed as the captain of Tamil Nadu for the upcoming Vijay Hazare trophy.

India batsman <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/indias-ambati-rayudu-announces-retirement-from-all-forms-of-cricket-232677">Ambati Rayudu</a> has made a volte-face on his decision to retire and made himself available for Hyderabad in domestic cricket, a senior official told Reuters on Friday.

A smarting Rayudu, who quit first-class cricket in 2018 to focus on his limited-overs career, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/heres-what-ambati-rayudu-wrote-in-retirement-letter-to-bcci-232763">announced last month</a> he has retired from all forms of the game.

He has now informed the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) of his availability.

"He has withdrawn his retirement letter that he gave and said he's available to play for HCA," Ratnakar Shetty, a member of the committee in charge of the HCA administration, said.

Rayudu will be available to play the full season for Hyderabad and it was a "good" news for the team, Shetty added.

The middle-order batsman has played 55 one-day internationals for India, the last of them in March against Australia, and was part of the Chennai Super Kings franchise in the 2019 Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament.

"It is great news for us. I still believe he still has five years of cricket and groom youngsters which is more important for us. Last year without him, we struggled in Ranji Trophy," HCA chief selector Noel David told Sportstar.

"Rayudu's class and experience will prove to be very handy for Hyderabad and will surely have a major positive influence on the other players as he will be playing in all the formats.

"Hopefully he carries on the good work and leads from the front and I am confident of Rayudu getting support from all quarters."

It is now known whether Bangar – who also serves as India’s assistant coach – knew at the time that he was, in all probability, out of a job come the end of India’s tour of the West Indies next month. The BCCI selection committee had unanimously chosen former India Test opener and national selector Vikram Rathour as the next batting coach of the national team. Only formalities remain to confirm Rathour, 50, as the man to coach India’s batsmen from the home series against South Africa in September until the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup.

Arun aside, the other specialist coach in the Indian team setup, fielding coach R Sridhar, also had his contract renewed for two years on Thursday.

That means that only Bangar lost his job.

When asked by reporters in Mumbai why Bangar, who has been with the Indian team as batting coach since 2014, when he joined Shastri, Arun and Sridhar in a clean-up job by the BCCI, the chief selector MSK Prasad did not provide a specific reason.

“In the last five years, there is definitely some amount of improvement. Looking ahead, with the Test Championship coming up and two T20 World Cups, we thought that there should be freshness in the department. That’s the reason why we went ahead with Vikram Rathour as first choice,” he said.

The obvious question is, was Bangar made the scapegoat for India’s batting frailties during the 2019 World Cup, which culminated in defeat to New Zealand in the semi-final?

The “freshness” in the batting theory, which Prasad touched upon but did not elaborate on, will not set well with everyone. Such decisions rarely do.

It can be argued that since Bangar, Arun and Sridhar all came on board together in 2014, under Shastri, why weren’t the other two assistant coaches removed from their roles?

CricketCountry has learnt that the decision to replace Bangar was taken because the selectors were in agreement that a new pair of eyes were needed on India’s current crop of batsmen. With regards to Arun, the overall feeling was that the rise of India’s fast bowlers since he took over as bowling coach augured extremely well and that relationship should be continued with. Indeed, there has never been a pace pool like Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav all in the same squad, and the success of these bowlers has helped India become No 1 in Tests.

India’s bowling unit is apparently closer to Arun than the batsmen are to Bangar, and there is a view within the management that coaching bowlers is more technical than coaching batsmen. Hence the decision to continue with the same rhythm in place.

In regards to Sridhar’s reappointment, the rising standards of India’s fielding – even though the team’s slip cordon in Tests has issues still – merited his continuation.

As it stands, India’s support staff will be finalised by the end of August but the catch is that Rathour has to declare any cases of a conflict of interest, otherwise Bangar will be re-appointed.

Rathour, who averaged 13.10 from six Tests and 49.66 from 146 first-class matches, had earlier this year been recommended to the BCCI by Rahul Dravid, the coach of India A and India Under-19s, who wanted the former Punjab batsman and qualified coach on board as a batting coach.

In February, Rathour was named as the batting coach of India A and U-19 teams and then in May, was roped in as the head coach of India A. But on both occasions, his appointment was cancelled by the Committee of Administrators (CoA) after the acting BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary sent a note of dissent citing the conflict of interest.

Rathour is the brother-in-law of Aashish Kapoor, the former India offspinner currently serving as chairman of India’s junior selection committee, and a cousin of Anurag Thakur, the former BCCI president and the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association president. Rathour, after his Punjab career ended, played for Himachal Pradesh.

It is learnt that Rathour’s case was apparently pushed by for Anurag Thakur, because on paper the former India opener’s CV does not make for impressing reading even though he is a qualified coach. On Thursday, the BCCI CEO Rahul Johri dismissed any conflict of interest claims, as you would expect him to.

As with Indian cricket, nothing is straightforward and the fate of Bangar and Rathour is not decided.

For now, keep an eye on Bangar if you spot him on TV again during the ongoing Test series.&nbsp;

But on both occasions, his appointment was cancelled by the Committee of Administrators (CoA) after the acting BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary sent a note of dissent citing the conflict of interest. Rathour is the brother-in-law of Aashish Kapoor, the former India offspinner currently serving as chairman of India’s junior selection committee, and a cousin of Anurag Thakur, the former BCCI president and the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association president. Rathour, after his Punjab career ended, played for Himachal Pradesh. It is learnt that Rathour’s case was apparently pushed by for Anurag Thakur, because on paper the former India opener’s CV does not make for impressing reading even though he is a qualified coach. On Thursday, the BCCI CEO Rahul Johri dismissed any conflict of interest claims, as you would expect him to. As with Indian cricket, nothing is straightforward and the fate of Bangar and Rathour is not decided. For now, keep an eye on Bangar if you spot him on TV again during the ongoing Test series. Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag on Wednesday said that Anil Kumble was the perfect candidate to become a national selector.

Sehwag said Kumble has the ability to boost confidence of the players. "When Anil Kumble became the captain, he came to my room and said 'go and play how you play as in the next two series you won't be dropped'. That kind of confidence he gave... I think he is the right person ," Sehwag said.

Kumble, who is now the chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee, was the Team India coach between 2016 and 2017. He stepped down from that role after India lost to Pakistan in Champions Trophy.

The current selection committee is led by MSK Prasad, however, the panel has been criticised for it being lightweight.

Talking at a public event, Sehwag also said that he finds it difficult to comprehend with conflict of interest rules.

When asked about Sreesanth's ban being reduced to seven years, Sehwag said he wants&nbsp;to see him play for some state or club.

On Tuesday, Sreesanth's life ban for his alleged involvement in the spot-fixing scandal was reduced to seven years by BCCI Ombudsman Justice (retired) DK Jain.&nbsp;

Sreesanth was banned by the BCCI for a lifetime in August 2013 along with his Rajasthan Royals teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan for indulging in alleged spot-fixing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) that year.

The Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji on Monday said the conflict of interest rule will be followed 'as of now'&nbsp;and amendments in this regard can be made if the Supreme Court deems fit.

"The ethics officer sends the complaint to us and he then takes the call. He's a former judge of the Supreme Court. He will definitely go by the rules book. Yes, cricket is having a little difficulty in this conflict of interest rule. I think if the papers are put perfectly in the court, they will understand," Edulji told reporters.

Edulji, who was talking to reporters after the conclusion of a meeting between the CoA and Indian cricketers over the conflict of interest rule, said,&nbsp;"Good suggestions came up during the meeting. As of now, a conflict of interest rule has to be followed."

"The amendments will be made once the court gives its verdict. We are trying our level best to see what is best for cricket. If the Supreme Court decides, the amendments will be implemented," she said.&nbsp;

Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan, who was part of the meeting, said the cricketers put forth their concerns regarding the conflict of interest rule.

"We were asked for a suggestion as a player. We talked about both current and former players. We had an elaborate discussion. Players shared their concerns. It was a good meeting," said Pathan.

Earlier this month, Rahul Dravid was accused of conflict of interest by the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association's member Sanjay Gupta. Dravid is the current National Cricket Academy (NCA) head and is also employed as the vice president of India Cements Group.

When this issue came to light, former cricketer Sourav Ganguly had said that conflict of interest has become a new fashion in Indian cricket.

Harbhajan Singh had also agreed with Ganguly's comment. Earlier this year, Ganguly, VVS Laxman, and Sachin Tendulkar were questioned over the conflict of interest issue. However, Ravi Thodge, member of the CoA, on August 13 said that there was no conflict of interest in the appointment of Dravid as the NCA's head.&nbsp;

"There is no conflict in Rahul's case. He has got a notice. We cleared his appointment, as we saw no conflict," Thodge had said.

The Supreme Court on January 30, 2017 had nominated a four-member panel CoA to look after the administration of the BCCI in order to implement Lodha Committee reforms.

Former Indian national cricketer VB Chandrasekhar has died in what investigators suspect was suicide prompted by worries about debt, police said Friday.

Chandrasekhar, 57, was found in his bedroom by his family in the southern city of Chennai on Thursday evening, police investigator Senthil Murugan said.

"We have booked a case of unnatural death. According to our preliminary investigation, he has been under a financial stress. The autopsy report is awaited," Murugan told AFP.
