Vox Cinemas, Warner Bros’ local distribution partner, had pushed it to August 31 as the studio is trying to work out edits requested by censors, related to alleged LGBTQ-related narration and dialogues in <em>Barbie.</em></p>

<p>The cuts requested by the region, are however, not agreed to by the studio. Therefore, it’s likely that <em>Barbie&nbsp;</em>will not release in at least some Middle East territories, including in Saudi Arabia, which is the region’s top market, as well as possibly other territories including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Egypt.</p>

The recently released <em>Barbie</em> movie is all the craze right now, and it seems like renowned girl's education activist Malala Yousafzai isn't lagging far behind the trend.</p>

<p>The Nobel laureate has recently posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram. Her post is winning hearts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Taken together with Universal's dark biopic <em>Oppenheimer,&nbsp;</em>which took in a mighty $46.2 million in its own second weekend out, the two films provided a much-needed "Barbenheimer" boost during a middling Hollywood summer.</p>

<p>"July would have been a lukewarm month, but then <em>Barbie&nbsp;</em>and <em>Oppenheimer</em>&nbsp;arrived, moviegoing exploded, and within one week, July caught up to its pre-pandemic average," said analyst David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research.<br />

Last weekend, <em>Barbie&nbsp;</em>scored the biggest opening weekend of the year, at $80.5 million, showing eyebrow-raising appeal for a movie based on a small plastic doll living in a perfect pink world.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With Margot Robbie as Barbie&nbsp;and Ryan Gosling as boyfriend Ken,&nbsp;the Greta Gerwig film has now generated $351.4 million in North American ticket sales, along with $423 million abroad, likely setting it on track to be the next billion-dollar flick.</p>

<p><em>Oppenheimer&nbsp;</em>also showed exceptional strength for a historical drama, with its second-weekend result -- like that of <em>Barbie-</em>- among the best in box-office history, said analyst Paul Dergarabedian. The story of the creation of America's atomic bomb has now earned $174.1 million domestically and $226 million abroad.</p>

<p>In third for the weekend was a new Disney release, <em>Haunted Mansion</em>,&nbsp;at $24.2 million. Disney spent $150 million to produce the kid-centric film so it has a way to go to reach profitability, according to Variety. The movie stars LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish and Owen Wilson.</p>

<p>Fourth spot went to the independent <em>Sound of Freedom,&nbsp;</em>from Santa Fe Films and Angel Studios, at $12.4 million. The low-budget action thriller has sparked controversy, with critics saying its story about child sex trafficking plays into Qanon conspiracy theories.</p>

<p>And hanging steady at fifth was Paramount's <em>Mission: Impossible -- Dead Reckoning Part One</em>.&nbsp;This latest in the popular Tom Cruise series took in $10.7 million, meaning all of the top five films scored in the double-digit millions.</p>

Barbie and Oppenheimer have brought audience back to the theaters

<p>Richard Dickson, president and chief operating officer at Mattel who is credited for reviving the firm’s Barbie franchise, was poached by Apparel giant Gap.</p>

<p>Richard Dickson will leave his position at the toymaker on August 3 and will join as Gap's new CEO on August 22, according to a statement issued by Gap.</p>

<p>Mattel made the announcement to its staff about Dickson’s departure on Wednesday (July 27), just days after the “Barbie” movie raked in $155 million in the last three days, making it the biggest film debut so far this year.</p>

<p>Dickson had been serving Mattel for at least two decades. He has been hailed for “reinvigorating Mattel’s iconic brands, including Barbie, Hot Wheels and Fisher-Price,” Gap’s statement said.</p>

<p>For at least a year, Gap has been looking to fill the shoes of its former CEO Sonia Syngal who left the company in July 2022.</p>

<h2><strong>Gap's year-long search for&nbsp;successor ends</strong></h2>

<p>Dickson will be filling the shoes of Gap’s former CEO Sonia Syngal who left the company.</p>

<p>Since then, Gap’s chairman Bob Martin has been serving as the interim CEO. But during a May earnings call, Martin told investors that he didn’t expect to hold the position of interim CEO as long as he had.</p>

<p>“Gap Inc. is a portfolio of iconic brands, known for having defined American style with bold thinking and making quality fashion accessible to millions. But it’s the work ahead that excites me most - the chance to work hand-in-hand with the teams to evolve Gap Inc. for a new era,” Dickson said in a statement.</p>

<p>“Under Bobby’s leadership, the team has begun to truly reset the company for long-term success, establishing a new foundation that I’m eager to build on.”</p>
