Saina Nehwal and Pusarla Sindhu have raised the bar for Indian badminton but the next generation will struggle to match their success until they improve physically, former All England champion Prakash Padukone said on Tuesday. 
 
Nehwal became the first Indian to win an Olympic medal in badminton with bronze at London 2012 while Sindhu went one better to clinch a silver at the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016 before adding a bronze in Tokyo this year. 
 
Padukone, who won the All England title in 1980, long before badminton was admitted to the Olympics in 1992, said the duo were more of an exception in women`s badminton in India.

Padukone said some current Indian players were probably technically on a par with Nehwal and Sindhu but they lagged behind physically. "Both of them were very fit in terms of speed, in terms of fitness, in terms of strength, in terms of power, which none of the other girls have," Padukone said.

She admitted that the prospect of playing without fans was a concern for some competitors, who are worried about how it may affect their performances.

"Our badminton players also mention these same feelings... But we have to seal everyone in the bubble for the best health this time," she said.&nbsp;

Badminton's world tour hopes to resume in September, officials said on Friday, announcing a revised schedule with several tournaments moved or cancelled because of the months-long coronavirus shutdown.

The circuit will restart in Taiwan on September 1, the Badminton World Federation said, with 16 tournaments building up to the World Tour Finals in Guangzhou, southern China from December 16.

Major tournaments in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and India are among those that have been rescheduled, while the World Tour Finals were pushed back by a week.

But the Singapore Open and Badminton Asia Championships are on a list of 10 cancelled events, while another five have been suspended.

BWF secretary general Thomas Lund cautioned that there were no guarantees the new-look tour would go ahead as planned.

"It is a condensed calendar but we are confident this provides the framework to allow us to start again when it is safe and logistically possible," Lund said in a statement.

"At this point in time, it is difficult to predict when international movement and entry restrictions will be lifted by individual countries and territories, but we will not resume competition unless it is absolutely clear that is safe to do so."

The BWF suspended all tournaments in mid-March, in line with other sports as the pandemic took hold.

The Thomas and Uber Cup world team championships remain on their revised schedule of October 3-11 in Denmark.

Badminton's world tour hopes to resume in September, officials said on Friday, announcing a revised schedule with several tournaments moved or cancelled because of the months-long coronavirus shutdown. The circuit will restart in Taiwan on September 1, the Badminton World Federation said, with 16 tournaments building up to the World Tour Finals in Guangzhou, southern China from December 16. Major tournaments in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and India are among those that have been rescheduled, while the World Tour Finals were pushed back by a week. But the Singapore Open and Badminton Asia Championships are on a list of 10 cancelled events, while another five have been suspended. BWF secretary general Thomas Lund cautioned that there were no guarantees the new-look tour would go ahead as planned. "It is a condensed calendar but we are confident this provides the framework to allow us to start again when it is safe and logistically possible," Lund said in a statement. "At this point in time, it is difficult to predict when international movement and entry restrictions will be lifted by individual countries and territories, but we will not resume competition unless it is absolutely clear that is safe to do so." The BWF suspended all tournaments in mid-March, in line with other sports as the pandemic took hold. The Thomas and Uber Cup world team championships remain on their revised schedule of October 3-11 in Denmark.

Thomas Lund, secretary general of the Badminton World Federation, said an announcement on a rejigged 2020 calendar was expected soon. But he cautioned that the situation remained fluid.

"We are gearing up to be ready to start competition as soon as possible. This includes formulating a revamped BWF tournament calendar for 2020. An announcement on this will be made shortly," Lund said in a statement to AFP.

"But at this point in time, it is difficult to predict when international movement and entry restrictions will be lifted by individual countries and territories in order to guarantee that players, their entourage, officials and staff can participate in tournaments safely."

Badminton has already moved the Thomas and Uber Cups, a highlight of the season, to later in the year, hoping that the virus emergency will have passed.

The de facto men's and women's world team championships -- orginally scheduled for May, and then moved to August -- are now set to take place in Aarhus, Denmark in October.&nbsp;

The pinnacle of the badminton season had been expected to be the Tokyo Olympics, now shifted to 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
