The announcement comes more than 20 years after the California-based company originally entered the Indian market through third-party dealers.

Apple said in a statement that the brightly lighted store was "inspired by the iconic Kaali Peeli taxi art unique to Mumbai," alluding to the city's decades-old yellow and black taxis.

On Wednesday evening, people were taking photographs and shooting videos on their iPhones outside the store, which had the Apple logo decked out in a variety of colours and a rendition of the iconic Apple greeting that said "Hello Mumbai."

Under the proposed guilders, smartphone users would be given an uninstall option and new models will be checked for compliance by a lab authorized by the Bureau of Indian Standards agency, two people aware of the plan told Reuters.

"Majority of smartphones used in India are having pre-installed Apps/Bloatware which poses serious privacy/information security issue(s)," stated a February 8 confidential government record of an IT ministry meeting, seen by Reuters.

The confidential meeting was attended by representatives from Xiaomi, Samsung, Apple and Vivo, as per the meeting record.

The smartphone makers have been given one-year time to adhere to the rules once it comes into effect. As of now, no date has been fixed as to when it will be implemented, the document stated.

Jack Dorsey's Bluesky, a Twitter alternative, debuts on Apple App Store

A massive fire broke out at Foxlink’s manufacturing unit in India’s southern Andhra Pradesh state. No casualties were reported.

The Taiwanese-based manufacturer, part of Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co Ltd, has halted production of cables for iPhone chargers. The factory opened in 2020.

The blaze was reported on Monday afternoon and damaged nearly 50 per cent of the machinery at the factory, said J Ramanaiah, who leads the Fire Services Department for Tirupati district in the state, reports Reuters news agency.

Around 750 people working at the unit in Jinkalamitta village, Tirupati district, were able to escape uninjured, police said.

Though the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the blaze spread rapidly due to fibre, sheets, and sponge being stocked at the facility.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) A Ramachandra said that the fire was confined to one shed due to the timely arrival of fire brigades.

Photos and videos available with Reuters showed charred machinery inside the plant and groups of firefighters dousing the fire. The clips showed huge plumes of smoke billowing from the plant.

"Management has conveyed to us that they estimate a loss of roughly 1 billion rupees ($12 million) from the incident," Ramanaiah said.

There are 12 Apple suppliers in India who have set up manufacturing facilities across the country. Of those, five are in southern Tamil Nadu state, two in Karnataka state, and one each in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

&nbsp;According to Apple, these companies are part of a longer list that represents 98 per cent of its direct spend for materials, manufacturing, and assembly of products worldwide for the fiscal year 2021.

According to a report by AppleInsider on Tuesday (February 21), Apple has been granted a patent for the colour-changing band. Rather than buying different watch bands to match different clothes, "Watch Band With Adjustable Colour" proposes that users buy just one, and it changes colour.&nbsp;

According to the patent, Apple Watch users may desire the ability to customise their watch bands for variety and style. "For example, a user may desire a watch band of a particular colour based on the user's selection of clothing, other wearable articles, environment, or another preference," the patent said.&nbsp;

"Some existing watches offer users the ability to remove and change watch bands for customisation.&nbsp;However, this requires the user to have a separate watch band for each of the colours or colour combinations that are desired," it further said.&nbsp;

According to the AppleInsider report, the patent describes the idea by referring to watch bands with electrochromic features, meaning that an applied voltage can cause a variety of colours and colour combinations to be displayed by a single band.&nbsp;

And while the patent attempts to describe every possible use of its core idea, the central examples revolve around watch bands that are made from a fabric which is itself woven from filaments. Apple said in its patent that some or all of the filaments can include electrochromic features. Giving an example, the tech giant said one or more of the filaments can include a conductor and an electrochromic layer.&nbsp;

The layer can be electrically connected to the conductor so that voltage applied to the conductor is communicated to it, said Apple adding the electrochromic layer can include a polymer layer which can react, in the presence of an applied voltage, to change its colour.&nbsp;

"The colour selections can be made and adjusted without removing and exchanging the watch band," the patent said. Also, a variety of colours can be displayed at different times without requiring different watch bands for each colour or colour combination, it added.&nbsp;
