Foxconn employees will receive CNY500 after referring a new recruit if the referred person works in the company for 15 days. They will be given another CNY500 if the recruit continues to work for the company for a month, as per a message forwarded on messaging app WeChat.

Foxconn apologised last month for facing a "technical glitch" in making payments after protests broke out in the factory in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou over overdue pay and Covid restrictions.

The announcement was made after viral videos showed workers, in huge numbers, fighting with security staff. In October, a video surfaced showing workers jumping the fence after they were forced to stay in lockdown inside the facility due to the Covid outbreak.

Investment firm Wedbush Securities' Dan Ives said, "What started out a month ago as 3% iPhone 14 Pro shortages grew to 5% last week and now are roughly 10%+ of overall units with the potential to increase over the coming month depending on any production improvements from Foxconn."

The economic growth of China has suffered due to the global economy's slowdown and zero-Covid policy.&nbsp;

There was no immediate response from Apple.

"The ongoing challenges around delays in returning to a normal level of production at the Zhengzhou facility could limit the pace with which supply-demand equilibrium can be reached in the coming months," J.P. Morgan analysts said.

US customers wait for about 33 days for their iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models to be delivered home, and the same models are not available for in-store pickup, the brokerage said.

Apple shares have fallen 3.4% in November, compared with a 2% gain in the Nasdaq Composite index.

CMA said that this helps Apple and Google to exercise a "stranglehold" over operating systems, app stores and web browsers, said a report in Politico.&nbsp;

According to CMA research, Apple's Safari or Google's Chrome-powered mobile browsers accounted for 97 per cent of all UK mobile web surfing in 2021. The CMA study's respondents also emphasised how Apple limits cloud gaming through its App Store.

Sarah Cardell, interim chief executive of the CMA, said Tuesday that many UK businesses and web developers say they feel that they are being held back by restrictions set by Apple and Google. “We plan to investigate whether the concerns we have heard are justified and, if so, identify steps to improve competition," she added.&nbsp;

What after the investigation concludes?&nbsp;

The in-depth market investigation is required to be finished within 18 months by CMA. In case, the study makes a conclusion that there is an involvement of anti-competitive behaviour in the market, CMA can impose remedies on firms and make recommendations to the government on regulation, reported Politico.

This comes in the backdrop of UK Chancellor Jeremy Hunt's announcement last Thursday where he promised that government would present regulations to combat Big Tech's anti-competitive abuses. He said that it will be done before May next year with the help of Digital Markets Competition and Consumers Bill. The watchdog CMA’s Cardell said that the new protocols will address “sorts of issues” raised in Apple and Google’s dominance over mobile ecosystems. As per media reports, these new regulatory powers could be received by CMA’s Digital Markets Unit as early as October next year.&nbsp;

The decision was taken on Wednesday by consensus of all stakeholders at an inter-ministerial task force constituted by the&nbsp;Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government. The task force held wide-ranging discussions on the possibility of making uniform charging ports for all compatible smart devices and another for low-cost feature phones.

“During the meeting, a broad consensus emerged among stakeholders on the adoption of USB Type-C as a charging port for electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops etc. Further, it was deliberated that a different charging port may be adopted for feature phones," consumer affairs secretary Rohit Kumar Singh was quoted as saying in Indian media.

The meeting was attended by representatives from industry associations such as the Confederation of Indian Industry, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and educational institutions including IIT&nbsp;Kanpur, and IIT (BHU),&nbsp;Varanasi.

In the meeting, the stakeholders agreed on a phased roll-out of uniform charging ports for “effective implementation and easy adoption”.

Brazil, too, has moved towards a similar initiative, with the government pushing Apple to roll out its devices with Type-C ports.

Steve Jobs' worn-out sandals auctioned for 'highest-ever' price

Foxconn, an Apple supplier, is set to quadruple its&nbsp;staff at its iPhone manufacturing units&nbsp;in India over the course of two years,&nbsp;indicating a production shift as it deals with interruptions in China, as per an exclusive Reuters report. The supplier has been in&nbsp;news recently due to its rigorous virus restrictions&nbsp;at its Zhengzhou plant, the largest iPhone manufacturer in the world, which have disrupted production and raised questions about how China's virus-related policies would affect global supply chains. This week, Apple cut down its expectation for shipments of the high-end iPhone 14 models due to the delays, which slowed down the company's forecast for sales during the lucrative holiday shopping season.

Taiwan-based Foxconn now intends to strengthen&nbsp;its workforce at its plant in southern India to 70,000 by adding 53,000 more workers over the next two years, said the sources, who chose to stay anonymous.&nbsp;Although Foxconn's Zhengzhou plant, which employs 200,000 people, dwarfs Apple's Tamil Nadu plant in terms of size, it is imperative&nbsp;for Apple&nbsp;to move production away from China.

Under the new update of the AirDrop function which rolled out on Thursday, iPhone owners in China now get only a 10-minute cap on receiving files from "everyone". They will also get an option to choose whether they want to receive files from everyone, no one, or only from their contacts.&nbsp;

This agreement was the subject of the proposed class action in federal court in Seattle, as per Bloomberg reports.&nbsp;

According to the complaint, after only carrying a small selection of Apple devices in addition to imitations, this made Amazon the preeminent reseller of new iPhones and iPads on its website.

Prices increased by&nbsp;more than 10 per cent, while&nbsp;Apple&nbsp;stabilized the&nbsp;prices&nbsp;it charged in retail stores, the complaint said. Discounts of 20 per cent&nbsp;or more that were once common no longer are, it added.

"Erecting barriers to entry to keep competitors out and raising&nbsp;prices&nbsp;in the wake of their elimination is precisely the kind of conduct that Congress enacted antitrust laws to prevent," the complaint said. "The case is open and shut."

The lawsuit filed on Wednesday pertains to Americans who purchased brand-new iPhones and iPads from Amazon starting in January 2019.
