COMAC also posted its first aircraft orders, on Tuesday morning, with China’s Tibet Airlines finalising an order for 40 C919 single-aisle planes and 10 ARJ21 regional jets. Additionally, China’s Henan Civil Aviation Development and Investment Group ordered 6 ARJ21s.

Following this, Alaska and United Airlines reported loose parts in their Boeing 7373 MAX planes’ door panels, ultimately leading to the grounding of the 737 MAX 9 planes.&nbsp;

Boeing signals two-month delay to 737 production ramp-up: Report  

Airbus Defence and Space has officially handed over the first of the 56 C295 transport aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF). This marks the commencement of the delivery phase of the project, valued at Rs 21,935 crore, which was finalised two years ago as part of India's broader efforts to modernise its air assets.&nbsp;

Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, accepted the aircraft at Airbus's production facility located in the southern Spanish city of Seville.&nbsp;"The delivery of the first aircraft has been ahead of schedule by 10 days," the IAF chief said in Spain&nbsp;after receiving keys of the C295 aircraft from Airbus.

Dylan Taylor, the CEO of Voyager Space, clarified that "Lockheed will likely still have a role to play somewhere within the supply chain."

He also said that Starlab will remain a US-led initiative, and that, "There will be contributions coming from Europe, but there will definitely be an assembly and large contributions coming from the US".&nbsp;

NASA, as per Reuters, has planned to retire the ISS in 2030 and intends to rely on private companies to host scientific research in low-Earth orbit. However, the NASA officials have acknowledged that the ISS's lifespan might need to be extended as a private replacements moves forward.

Voyager Space and Airbus have reportedly stated that Starlab is expected to deploy around 2028.

"It will occur before the ISS decommissioning; we're highly confident of that. Whether it's going to be late 2027, early 2028, or late 2028 we're still working out those details," said Taylor.

AFP reported that the list price is USD 55 billion. Closely-held actual sale prices are normally lower. This deal is the largest ever in civil aviation.

The planes will be delivered between 2030 and 2035.

The order also makes IndiGo Airbus' largest customer for A320 planes. IndiGo is racing to expand as travel rebounds in India in the post-pandemic period.

IndiGo, a no-frills carrier, is one of India's largest domestic flight operators. India was the world's fastest-growing air passenger market before the coronavirus pandemic.

The previous record-holder for the largest single order was Air India. In February 2023, Air India ordered 470 aircraft. The carrier had placed orders with Airbus and also with its US competitor Boeing.

A June 1 report by Barclays says that Indian carriers now have the second-largest order book and have a six&nbsp;per cent share of the industry backlog, behind only the US.

IndiGo accounts for about 60 per cent of India's domestic aviation market. The carrier was widely expected to keep Airbus as its supplier of single-aisle jets.

The first C-295 medium tactical transport aircraft meant to be delivered to India completed a three-hour-long maiden flight trial in Seville, Spain, French firm Airbus Defence and Space said.

European aircraft manufacturer Airbus said Wednesday its revenues and net profit fell during the first quarter of the year as deliveries dropped amid continuing supply chain difficulties.

The company delivered 127 aircraft in the first three months of this year, down from 142 during the same period last year.

While this had only a modest impact on revenue, which dipped two per cent to 11.76 billion ($13.0 billion), net profit fell by 62 per cent to 466 million euros.

"We continue to face an adverse operating environment that includes in particular persistent tensions in the supply chain," said chief executive Guillaume Faury.

Airbus posted a record profit of 4.2 billion euros in 2022 despite supply chain problems limiting its ability to raise production.

The company slashed production and jobs during the pandemic when airlines halted most operations, and it has had trouble scaling production back up, as have some of its suppliers.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine also complicated sourcing certain parts.

Revenues generated by Airbus' commercial aircraft activities decreased by five per cent year-on-year, mainly reflecting the lower deliveries, the company said.

The company's defence and space unit saw revenues drop by six per cent, while the helicopter unit jumped by 26 per cent as deliveries rose.

The first quarter performance was also hit by a charge of 360 million euros due to change in the value of the US dollar from when some pre-payments were made to settlement when aircrafts were delivered.

The company said it's 2023 outlook remains unchanged, which is for commercial aircraft deliveries to rise from 661 last year to 720 this year.
