Democratic doctors and nurses flip Republican seats, making health care and opposition to RFK Jr.'s agenda central to their congressional campaigns

What's behind the wave of doctors and nurses winning congressional seats in the US midterms?

The 2026 US midterm elections delivered a stunning political setback for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party, with Democrats scoring historic victories across traditionally Republican strongholds and reclaiming control of Congress. As the results came in, Democratic candidates took to the stage to celebrate victories that few would have predicted just months ago. From Texas to South Carolina, Kansas, Maine and Michigan, their election-night speeches captured the excitement of a remarkable political comeback, with several candidates delivering memorable one-liners and pointed messages to their opponents. One of the biggest moments came from Texas, where James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton to win a Senate seat for the Democrats. Addressing an enthusiastic crowd, Talarico declared, “We just took back Texas.” He went on to highlight the role of ordinary voters in his victory, adding, “We just proved that all the money in the world is no match for the people of Texas.” Talarico also took aim at the politics of division, saying, "We just showed that a politics of division is no match for a politics of love." His victory marked a historic breakthrough for Democrats in a state that had not elected a Democratic US senator since 1988. In South Carolina, Annie Andrews celebrated another major upset after defeating Republican Darline Graham. Her victory ended a 28-year Democratic drought in Senate elections in the state and made her the first woman elected to represent South Carolina in the US Senate. "I think we just made some history," Andrews told supporters. She added: “South Carolina, you have shown the nation what is possible.” The pediatrician-turned-politician also highlighted how voters had come together despite political differences, declaring that the state would not bow to "partisan divides, vitriol and name calling". Also Read: From Texas to South Carolina: How Democrats stormed Republican strongholds to redraw America's political map in US midterms 2026
Watch the video

Kansas witnessed another significant political shift as Democrat Adam Hamilton defeated Republican incumbent Roger Marshall. Reflecting on his relatively late entry into the race, Hamilton said: “I think I got elected because Kansans were saying, we're tired of the bullies. We're tired of the chaos.” His victory was particularly significant as it made him the first Democrat elected to represent Kansas in the US Senate in nearly a century. In Maine, Troy Jackson pulled off one of the night's most remarkable upsets by defeating five-term Republican Senator Susan Collins. A former logger from Allagash, Jackson had entered the race just over 100 days before the election. Recalling his appeal to voters at the party convention, Jackson said: “A little more than 100 days ago, I stood in front of our convention and asked you to put your faith in a logger from Allagash.” He then delivered the punchline that brought cheers from supporters: "Well, tonight, the people of Maine have elected that logger to the United States Senate." Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed also had a memorable moment during his victory speech after defeating Republican Mike Rogers. Taking a swipe at his opponent and the political attacks directed at him, El-Sayed declared: “You chose hate and Michigan chose hope.” He also addressed Vice President JD Vance, who is constitutionally required to administer the oath to newly elected senators. Referring to the difficulty some people had pronouncing his name, El-Sayed joked: “Look, I know you struggled with my name. So after JD swears me in in January, you could just go on and call me Senator.”

‘You can call me Senator’: From Texas To Maine, watch Democrats celebrate historic 2026 midterm wins

On Tuesday (Nov 03) Abdul El-Sayed created history by becoming the first Muslim elected to the upper chamber of Congress. In his victory speech, the Michigan Senator-elect took a playful dig at US Vice President JD Vance, saying "Habibi, there is this delicious irony in the fact that you're constitutionally obligated to swear me in, in January."The word did the rounds instantly, with the clip of his message to JD Vance going viral. But what does "habibi" actually mean? Also read | 'I was one of his child victims': Former Miss Teen USA contestant Larissa Portnoff accuses Trump of sexual abuse in viral video | WATCH
What does Habibi mean?
"Habibi" is an Arabic term of endearment that literally translates to "my dear" or "my beloved". It comes from the root "habib", meaning beloved, and the suffix "-i", meaning "my".It's one of the warmest, most common words in everyday Arabic speech and is used far beyond romance. Friends greet each other with it, shopkeepers use it with customers, and families say it constantly. In the Levant and across West Asia, it's a default term of closeness, roughly the equivalent of "dear", "buddy" or "mate" depending on the context.

Why it works here
That warmth is exactly why the line landed. El-Sayed, the first Muslim elected to the US Senate, took a term of affection and turned it into a pointed jab at the vice president, who, along with POTUS Donald Trump, in recent weeks had repeatedly mocked his Arabic name. The "delicious irony" he flagged is constitutional; Vance, as the US vice president, is duty-bound to swear in the senator-elect.Also read | US Midterms 2026: Pooja Sethi defeats bigotry, makes history as first Hindu, Indian-American woman elected to Texas Legislatureel-Sayed did not spare Trump either; addressing the US president, he repeated his cheeky jibe from earlier and said, “I know you struggle with my name, so after JD swears me in, you can just go on and call me Senator.”
What did Vance say about Abdul el-Sayed's name? The context
The jab was the payoff of a broader fight. Vance and President Donald Trump in the lead up to the US midterms have repeatedly emphasised El-Sayed's middle name, "Mohamed," in what critics and the Michigan senator-elect's campaign called Islamophobic attacks. El-Sayed had earlier flipped the mockery into a joke, explaining that Abdul means "servant", El-Sayed means "leader" and Mohamed means "the praised one", suggesting the administration had inadvertently upgraded him.In one word, El-Sayed managed to be warm, cutting and historically aware all at once. "Habibi" may be a term of affection, but on election night, it carried the weight of a victory speech.
Netizens laud el-Sayed's choice of words
On Tuesday, el-Sayed clocked victory not only in elections but also on the internet. His choice of words instantly earned him the internet's seal of approval, with netizens lauding his choice of words. As the video of his clever jab gained traction, one X user remarked, "'Habibi' means 'my dear', which is generous. would’ve gone with 'see you at work, motha*****'"."Blud's teasing level is on another planet. Went through an entire English speech and casually dropped an Arabic word, 'HABIBI', just to end irony of JD," commented another user. "That was the politest disrespect I've ever seen," added a third.

Other Arabic words el-Sayed used to celebrate victory
Habibi was just one of the Arabic words people took a note of from el-Sayed's victory speech. One phrase that has similarly gone viral was the dramatic 'Inshallah to Alhamdulillah’ comment. Abdul El-Sayed, the first Muslim elected to the Senate, told Michigan, "Tonight, we can turn that 'inshallah' into an 'alhamdulillah.' “ Then, taking a pointed dig at the ”right-wing ops”, who in recent days have tried to brand him a jihadist, he clarified, "That just means ‘praise be to God."’

"Habibi" is an Arabic term of endearment that literally translates to "my dear" or "my beloved". It comes from the root "habib", meaning beloved, and the suffix "-i", meaning "my". It's one of the warmest, most common words in everyday Arabic speech and is used far beyond romance. Friends greet each other with it, shopkeepers use it with customers, and families say it constantly. In the Levant and across West Asia, it's a default term of closeness, roughly the equivalent of "dear", "buddy" or "mate" depending on the context.

El-Sayed raises $2.4 mn after Democrat Haley Stevens backs Republican Mike Rogers

A bitter Democratic rivalry in Michigan has turned into one of the most dramatic political controversies ahead of the November 3 US midterm elections. Democratic Congresswoman Haley Stevens, who lost the party's Senate primary to Abdul El-Sayed, has stunned her colleagues by endorsing Republican candidate Mike Rogers just two days before voters head to the polls. What was supposed to be a final show of Democratic unity in a crucial Senate contest instead became a public political rupture, with Stevens facing widespread criticism from party leaders, lawmakers, activists and even members of her own congressional staff. The development has also given El-Sayed an opportunity to position himself as the candidate focused on voters rather than internal party disagreements.
How the Haley Stevens-Abdul El-Sayed feud started
The tensions between Stevens and El-Sayed date back to the Democratic Senate primary in Michigan, which turned into a bitter contest over policy, political ideology and the candidates' positions on Israel. Stevens, a moderate Democrat and strong supporter of Israel, faced El-Sayed, a progressive former public health official who has been sharply critical of the Israeli government's military campaign in Gaza and US support for Israel. The campaign was particularly divisive because of the millions of dollars spent by outside political groups. An affiliated super PAC linked to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) backed Stevens, while El-Sayed faced attacks from outside groups during the primary. El-Sayed eventually defeated Stevens by a narrow margin in the August Democratic primary, securing the party's nomination to challenge Republican Mike Rogers for Michigan's open Senate seat. Despite the bitter contest, Stevens subsequently endorsed El-Sayed and hinted that she would support the Democratic nominee in the general election. However, the two did not develop a visible joint campaign presence after a unity breakfast held shortly after the primary. The disagreements continued to simmer, particularly over Israel, campaign rhetoric and El-Sayed's association with controversial political streamer Hasan Piker.
Fiance's Mike Rogers endorsement reignites tensions
The latest controversy started gathering momentum after Stevens' fiance, Jason Turkish, publicly indicated that he would vote for Republican Mike Rogers. Turkish's position intensified scrutiny of Stevens' own political loyalties, particularly given the congresswoman's earlier endorsement of El-Sayed. Stevens subsequently raised objections to an advertisement from the progressive outside group Rebellion PAC. The advertisement linked US financial support for Israel to the rising cost of living and grocery prices in Michigan. Critics, including Stevens, argued that the messaging invoked antisemitic tropes. El-Sayed distanced himself from the advertisement, making clear that it had not been produced by his campaign and that he disagreed with its contents. Stevens also called on El-Sayed to more forcefully condemn the advertisement and address concerns surrounding his campaign's association with Piker. The disagreement spilled into public view in the final days of the campaign. Stevens had been expected to appear alongside El-Sayed at a Detroit church event, with prominent Democrats, including Representative Jim Clyburn, also expected to attend. However, the planned appearance fell apart. Michigan Representative Debbie Dingell, who helped organise the event, said she had asked Stevens not to attend because the disagreement had become a distraction from the campaign's closing message. El-Sayed's campaign had also made clear that Stevens was no longer welcome at its campaign events. Also Read: US midterms 2026: Blue wave, red wave or divided Congress — What is India's diplomatic playbook EXPLAINED

Haley Stevens stuns Democrats by endorsing Republican Mike Rogers
On November 1, Stevens took an extraordinary step that sent shockwaves through the Democratic Party. Instead of appearing alongside El-Sayed at the planned unity event, she attended a church service at Detroit's Perfecting Church with Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers. She subsequently announced that she was endorsing Rogers, who is backed by President Donald Trump, against her own party's nominee. In a video posted on social media, Stevens said that El-Sayed had made it clear that she was no longer welcome in his campaign and that she should stay away. "And he's right. And that's why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today," she said. Stevens also criticised El-Sayed's association with Hasan Piker, saying that the country needed to stand against hate. The announcement was particularly striking because Stevens had recently reaffirmed that she would vote for the Democratic nominee. She had also previously criticised Rogers as a potential rubber stamp for Trump's agenda. Despite her endorsement of Rogers, Stevens maintained that she remained a proud Democrat. President Trump, meanwhile, praised her decision, describing it as an act of bravery and loyalty to Michigan. He also suggested that she could eventually join the Republican Party.
Democratic leaders condemn Stevens as backlash grows
The response from Democrats was swift and unusually fierce. Michigan Democratic Party chair Curtis Hertel announced that Stevens was no longer a member of the state party and would not be welcomed back in the future. He accused her of abandoning the principles she claimed to support and attempting to undermine the party's momentum just before Election Day. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also condemned the endorsement, describing it as a despicable betrayal. He reaffirmed that Senate Democrats were united behind El-Sayed and argued that Rogers would serve Trump's political agenda rather than Michigan's working families. Representative Debbie Dingell also criticised Stevens, saying voters were more concerned about affordability and their everyday problems than the congresswoman's continued efforts to attract attention. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi backed El-Sayed, saying he must win and accusing Stevens of putting Michigan families' healthcare, freedoms and future at risk. Senator Bernie Sanders was among the prominent progressives who sharply criticised Stevens. He called on Democrats to unite behind El-Sayed and defeat Rogers. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani also criticised the congresswoman, accusing her of betraying working-class voters by endorsing the very Republican she had previously opposed. The backlash was not limited to senior political figures. Stevens' longtime chief of staff resigned following the announcement, with further staff departures expected, according to reports.

Abdul El-Sayed refuses to get distracted
While Stevens' endorsement dominated political headlines, El-Sayed attempted to shift the conversation back to the issues facing Michigan voters. Speaking to reporters at a Detroit church event on Sunday, he dismissed the controversy and said his attention was on the millions of people dealing with economic pressures, healthcare costs and concerns about their children's future. "At the end of the day, I actually don't think about Haley Stevens. I think about 9,999,998 people who are not those two," El-Sayed said, referring to Stevens and Rogers. He added that he was less interested in political disputes than in policy and the everyday concerns of Michigan residents. The Democratic nominee also received a show of support from prominent party figures who appeared alongside him at the church event, including Representatives Jim Clyburn and Debbie Dingell, and Senator Angela Alsobrooks. Schumer's statement that Senate Democrats were united behind El-Sayed further reinforced the party's effort to move beyond the controversy.
Watch: Haley Stevens saying she is endorsing Republican candidate Mike Rogers

Did Haley Stevens' political stunt backfire?
The endorsement was clearly intended to demonstrate Stevens' break with El-Sayed and signal her dissatisfaction with the direction of his campaign. However, the immediate consequences have been damaging for her standing within the Democratic Party. Rather than prompting a wider Democratic revolt against El-Sayed, the move triggered a wave of public support for the nominee from senior party figures, progressive leaders and lawmakers. The controversy has also raised questions about Stevens' political future. Her own staff departures, the Michigan Democratic Party's rejection of her and the criticism from former allies have turned her decision into a significant political liability. There is also a potential electoral dimension. Michigan is a crucial battleground in the fight for control of the US Senate, and the race between El-Sayed and Rogers is closely watched by both parties. Rogers could benefit from Stevens' endorsement, particularly if it influences voters who supported her during the Democratic primary. However, the backlash could also strengthen El-Sayed's appeal among Democrats who see the endorsement as an attempt to undermine their chosen nominee. With Election Day on November 3 approaching, the immediate question is whether Stevens' intervention will influence enough undecided voters to change the outcome of the race. For now, one thing is clear: what started as a dispute between two former Democratic primary rivals has evolved into a major test of party unity, loyalty and the future direction of the Democratic coalition in Michigan.

Fiance's Mike Rogers endorsement reignites tensions The latest controversy started gathering momentum after Stevens' fiance, Jason Turkish, publicly indicated that he would vote for Republican Mike Rogers. Democrat Haley Stevens endorses GOP against El-Sayed in Michigan Senate race after feud over Israel

What appeared to be a reconciliation between feuding Michigan Democrats on Thursday night quickly unravelled by Friday morning, as Representative Haley Stevens renewed her criticism of Democratic Senate nominee Dr. Abdul El-Sayed. Stevens had announced that she would campaign alongside El-Sayed over the weekend, seemingly putting aside the public disagreements that followed their bitter primary contest. However, less than a day later, she issued another statement outlining several demands ahead of their planned joint appearance. Stevens said she expected El-Sayed to apologize for his remarks about Israel and disavow an advertisement from an outside group that she characterized as antisemitic. She also urged him to remove a campaign advertisement featuring conservative commentator Tucker Carlson. “Abdul promises to get money out of politics,” Stevens said in the statement. “He can begin by getting Israel out of his explanation for everything Michigan cannot afford.” The latest disagreement has added to an increasingly complicated relationship between El-Sayed and Stevens, drawing in several prominent Democrats, including Representatives Debbie Dingell of Michigan and James E. Clyburn of South Carolina, one of the most influential African American members of Congress. The dispute has created further uncertainty during the final week of a Senate race that could influence control of the chamber, prompting concerns among Democrats that internal divisions could hurt the party as Election Day approaches. Stevens, a centrist who lost to El-Sayed by less than one percentage point in the contentious August primary, has not appeared publicly alongside him during the final stretch of the campaign, despite pledging during the summer to support his candidacy. Cenk Uygur, founder of Rebellion PAC, disputed Stevens’s interpretation of the advertisement, arguing that it targeted the Israeli government rather than Jewish Americans. However, Uygur said he would have no objection if El-Sayed publicly rejected the commercial. “He’s running a campaign,” Uygur said. “I’m running a PAC. He can say whatever he wants. I’m OK with it. We don’t speak with each other.” Stevens also called on El-Sayed to withdraw a campaign advertisement featuring Carlson and other conservative figures discussing the Senate race. Carlson, who has frequently promoted conspiracy theories and has said white supremacy is “not a real problem” in America, has criticized Rogers and defended El-Sayed’s position on US foreign policy. Stevens argued that El-Sayed should remove the advertisement out of respect for Michigan’s Black community. It remained unclear whether Stevens and El-Sayed had communicated directly about the latest disagreements. Clyburn, who endorsed Stevens during the Democratic primary, declined to discuss the arrangements for Sunday's appearance but confirmed that he had spoken with Dingell. “I don’t know who else she talked to,” he said. “But she did talk to me.” Clyburn's involvement comes as El-Sayed attempts to ease tensions between Black and Arab American voters in the Detroit area. At the same time, he faces reservations among some Jewish Democrats who have objected to his strong criticism of Israel. In late August, El-Sayed apologized to a group of Jewish Democrats for using the phrase 'hurt people hurt people' following an attack on a synagogue near Detroit. “Nobody deserves to have their pain trampled on,” he said in his apology. The primary contest between El-Sayed and Stevens was marked by personal disagreements, with Israel emerging as a major issue. El-Sayed, pointing to Stevens's support from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, once said the organization had chosen to back the least capable candidate in America. Stevens, in turn, accused El-Sayed of wanting to blame his problems on Jewish Americans. Following his primary victory, El-Sayed received Stevens's endorsement, and the two appeared together at a unity breakfast. At the time, Stevens said the party had a ‘good ticket going’ and was united. However, her fiancé, Jason Turkish, said on Wednesday that he continued to be disappointed that El-Sayed had not appeared alongside Stevens at a news conference the day after the primary. Instead, he had joined Mallory McMorrow, another candidate who withdrew from the race in July and finished a distant third.

Trump's 'metal detector' remark
On Sunday (Oct 25), at a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, Trump compared US Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed to 9/11 attackers. Likening voting against the Democrat to the actions of Michigan native Todd Beamer and others who fought back against the Flight 93 hijackers, the POTUS said, "Twenty-five years later, Michigan needs to stand up and fight, just like Todd did, to stop a jihadist from walking into the Capitol."Trump added that if El-Sayed wins, "he would be the only senator that will have to go through a metal detector before he's allowed to go in the Senate."
POTUS calls El-Sayed's Black and Jewish voters 'crazy'
More recently, on Thursday (Oct 29) during a rally in South Carolina, Trump criticised El-Sayed' voters, singling out Black and Jewish voters who support him, and labelling them "crazy.""When we find some of the things he said were horrible, if you're Black or if you're Jewish, and if you vote for Abdul, you're crazy. Okay, you're crazy," Trump said at the rally. "You're crazy anyway," he added of El-Sayed's supporters. The remarks, delivered hundreds of miles from Michigan, highlighted Republican efforts to make El-Sayed a central target in political contests beyond the state. Trump's attack on Black and Jewish supporters appeared to revive a 2024 strategy of stoking ethnic tensions to undermine support for Democrats.

Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has called President Donald Trump an ‘idiot’ and criticised Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, accusing them of using bullying tactics and power to influence others.
El-Sayed criticises JD Vance and Pete Hegseth
El-Sayed also targeted other members of the Trump administration, questioning Vance's conduct and criticizing Hegseth. “And then you’ve got other people like JD Vance, who do this thing of just becoming curs to the dumbest person in the room,” El-Sayed said. “JD Vance is a smart person, but he has no actual soul, and he has no actual charisma. And so, his think is just to suck up to the strongest person in in the room to do their bidding. And then you got people like Pete Hegseth who are like, you know, minifool bullies around him. But like this whole coterie of the dumbest people, or the most cowardly people, are running the country. So, part of the responsibility I think we have is not to allow them to use their power to bend the rest of us to their will.” The Michigan Democrat suggested he would take the same approach toward Trump if elected to the Senate, emphasising the importance of confronting people who use power to intimidate others. “And that means standing up. And the thing about it is if you ever stood up to a bully, you realize that they’re very fragile. Like, once you get past the immediate bullying and the fear that they strike in people, there’s no there there. And when you hit them back, they back off. So, you know, I’m not looking to bully anybody, but if you’re walking around bullying people and you are causing them harm as a function of it, I’m gonna show up and I’m going to do exactly to you what you do to everybody else,” he said. Also Read: Flavio Bolsonaro claims he is Brazil's 'elected president' after fleeing to US; Trump says he 'won't get involved'
El-Sayed questions Democrats' response to Trump
During the interview, Minhaj asked El-Sayed why traditional Democrats were not taking the same confrontational approach toward Trump. “I think for a lot of folks, they’ve never been in a fight,” El-Sayed said. “And the thing about a fight is that a fight is not a pretty thing, right? And the logic of fighting is that once you get into a fight, like you’ve got to be willing to end the fight. And they have more power." “And so, for a lot of folks, they’ll look at what their resources and say, ‘Maybe it’s not worth it.’ But what they don’t realize is that for people who’ve set the culture of the debate around power, if you let them take what you have, you won’t have anything. And so that I think is part of it,” he said. El-Sayed also rejected the idea that Trumpism would disappear once Trump leaves office, arguing that confronting bullying was necessary to prevent the continued abuse of power. “I think the other part of it is people think that this will go away and the only way to beat a bully is to beat a bully and then you get to decide what happens next. We don’t want a world where people bully each other. We don’t want a world where might makes right. We don’t want a world where the most powerful in the room gets to take whatever they want from anybody else because of power. But when somebody violates that norm, you have a responsibility to stand up to them and take power back and then decide that we are not going to continue to live like this. And I think for a lot of the Democratic Party, it’s some combination of lack of courage and lack of understanding,” he said.

US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York has transferred $1 million to a political account supporting Michigan Senate candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, delivering a major financial boost to the progressive Democrat as he competes in a closely contested race. The donation, made on Friday, comes as Ocasio-Cortez campaigns in Michigan for El-Sayed and considers her own political future, including the possibility of a presidential run in 2028. The contribution is unusually large for a House member supporting a Senate candidate in another state. However, Ocasio-Cortez has made clear that she sees El-Sayed's victory as important not only for Democrats in the upcoming elections but also for the broader progressive movement. “I’m not waking up on November 4th wishing I did more to combat the smears aimed at Abdul,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez said in a statement to The New York Times on Friday. “I’m leaving everything I can on the field.”
AOC campaigns across Michigan for El-Sayed
Ocasio-Cortez spent Thursday travelling by bus across Michigan's Upper Peninsula alongside El-Sayed. On Friday, she was scheduled to hold three campaign events in the Detroit region without the candidate. Her $1 million contribution went to the Abdul for Michigan Victory Fund, a joint political effort involving El-Sayed's campaign, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Michigan Democratic State Central Committee. The donation underscores the importance Ocasio-Cortez has placed on the Michigan Senate contest, which could play a decisive role in determining control of the US Senate. El-Sayed, a former public health official, is running against Republican Mike Rogers, a former congressman. The two candidates are described in the report as running neck and neck.
AOC weighs her political future ahead of 2028
Ocasio-Cortez is openly considering her next political move. Her options could include seeking re-election to the House, launching a Senate campaign in New York against the seat currently held by Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, or pursuing a presidential bid in 2028. Her growing involvement in races beyond New York has attracted attention as Democrats begin positioning themselves for the next presidential election cycle. Michigan is expected to be one of the early states in the 2028 Democratic presidential primary, making political relationships and campaign support in the state particularly significant. Ocasio-Cortez is not the only prominent Democrat using financial and organisational resources to support candidates nationwide while weighing future ambitions. California Governor Gavin Newsom has used his extensive email list to raise money for Democratic candidates and state parties across the country. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez donates $1 million to Abdul El-Sayed's Michigan Senate campaign as the race intensifies and her potential 2028 presidential bid draws attention

“I’m leaving everything I can on the field.” AOC campaigns across Michigan for El-Sayed Ocasio-Cortez spent Thursday travelling by bus across Michigan's Upper Peninsula alongside El-Sayed. AOC weighs her political future ahead of 2028 Ocasio-Cortez is openly considering her next political move. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, a billionaire, has contributed $1 million to support the Democratic nominee for governor in Texas and has also backed other races.
