China is at it again, it is spreading fake news. A Chinese professor has now claimed that China apparently used microwave oven weapons on Indian troops in Ladakh.

China first lied about the Wuhan virus, then it lied about its origin and its spread. China also lied about the situation in Ladakh. It lied about the number of Chinese troops who died in the Galwan clash, till date, Beijing continues to hide the real figures.

What really happened on the intervening night of August 29th and 30th. China tried to occupy the strategic heights in the southern bank of Pangong Tso but it failed. Now, it is peddling a fabricated version of what happened. This is not the first time microwave weapons are being mentioned.

Microwave weapons are nothing but electromagnetic weapons. They heat the water molecules under the skin in the same way as a microwave heats food. The rising temperature results in immense pain which forces people to leave the area where the weapon is used.

The United States once deployed a similar active denial system in Afghanistan. China has developed a similar weapon called poly WB-1. It was unveiled at an air show in 2014. The fact is there no such microwave weapon has been used in Ladakh but China is using its microwaves for cooking up more than just food.

However, it has not stopped China from dishing out fresh lies about another attack in Ladakh one which never really took place. A Chinese professor has claimed that China used microwave weapons against the Indian forces in Ladakh. Professor's Jin Canrong is about what he claims happened on August 29 2020. Jin said the Chinese forces "turned the mountain tops into a microwave oven", claiming that "in 15 minutes, those occupying the hilltops all began to vomit." × "They couldn't stand up, so they fled. This was how we retook the ground". Fake news stories usually lack details and this one is no exception. The Chinese fairy tale was reported by a British publication. The Indian army called out the fake news on Twitter. Jin and China are jilted about India's control of key heights in the strategically located areas of Rezang-la and Reqin-la. The Indian army has a hawkeye view of the Chinese positions at Pangong Tso and this is why China is peddling fake news.
For India, Joe Biden is not a stranger. As America's vice president, and even before that Biden has engaged with the Indian establishment on more occasions than one committing his support for a strong India-US partnership.

In September 2014, there was a buzz in Washington DC that the Indian prime minister was visiting America's capital right after his thumping victory in the general elections. While the focus of the world was on the talks between Barack Obama and Narendra Modi, on September, 30t, Joe Biden, the then vice-president of America hosted a lunch for the Indian prime minister.

Obama's secretary of state John Kerry was present too. The leaders had spent time together before the luncheon. They were convinced India and the United States can become strong partners.

Indian government dismisses reports of Army strikes in PoK

The Indian Army is carrying out 'pinpoint strikes' on suspected terror launchpads inside PoK in response to Pakistani military's unrelenting efforts to push maximum number of terrorists into India before the onset of harsh winters.

Ratan Tata needs no introduction. The Chairman Emeritus of Tata Group is a respected figure not just in business circles, but among public as well. His salt-to-steel conglomerate has been an important part of India Inc's success story. Ratan Tata's love for animals is also well known.

On Wednesday, Tata posted a pic of him with dogs. There is nothing business-like in the picture. Ratan Tata appears in a casual mode. In this picture, Ratan Tata is not the business mogul he is, but just a man who is fond of animals.

"A few heartwarming moments with the adopted Bombay House dogs this Diwali, especially Goa, my office companion", reads the Instagram post.
Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Thursday said he was confident that the COVID-19 vaccine would be ready in the next three-four months and added that the priority to provide the same to 135 crore Indians would be based on scientific evaluation.

The Minister was addressing the FICCI FLO webinar on ''The Shifting Healthcare Paradigm During and Post-Covid'' today.

"I am confident that the COVID-19 vaccine will be ready in the next three-four months. Priority for the vaccine will be designed on the basis of scientific data. Health care workers and corona warriors will naturally be prioritised followed by elderly and disease-prone people. Very detailed planning is underway for vaccine dissemination. An e-vaccine intelligence platform has been created to discuss the blueprint for the same. Tracking and tracing of the vaccine would be neck-deep once it's available for the public. Hopefully, 2021 should be a better year for all of us," the Health Minister said.

Praising the efforts of the Central government, the Minister said some ''very bold steps'' were taken to fight the pandemic in the last few months.

"Janta curfew was a very innovative and unique experiment by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It had nationwide participation from the citizens. The decision to impose a lockdown followed by unlocking were some bold decisions by the central government during the pandemic. We have handled it very well," the Minister said.

"The government has been very proactive in its response towards this fight. Airports, seaports and land borders were put under surveillance for COVID-19 well in time," he added.

Giving an account of the journey of the last 11 months, the Minister said India was amongst the top countries to control the impact of the pathogen in a short duration.

"Initially we faced a shortage of PPE kits, ventilators and N-95 masks. But in a few months time, we were able to export these things to different parts of the world. Our scientists are now well ahead of many others globally in their research on the vaccine. In a couple of months, we should be able to produce a vaccine for the COVID-19 infection. Our performance has been excellent on every parameter set by the World Health Organisation, we have the highest recovery rate and the least fatality rate. We have 2,115 laboratories in every nook and corner of the country for COVID tests. Over 20 lakh dedicated COVID beds are in place. It proves that whenever India decides to excel at something, it does," the Health Minister asserted.

Sharing the vision of PM Modi he said that the Centre will deliver a new India to the citizens in 2022.

"We will deliver a new India in 2022 as per the dream of PM Narendra Modi. Only humanism and nationalism would prevail in this new India as our PM envisions," Harsh Vardhan concluded.

Chinese forays in South Asia are increasing, from Nepal to Pakistan but if the past is to go by, a trail of debt is sure to be expected of it. The Maldives, under former President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen, saw increase role of Chinese companies and govt, something that has shown its impact.

Between 2012 and 2018, Chinese entities signed contracts between $2 to $3 billion, some at exorbitant repayment interest rates. This when compared to the size of the economy of the country, is not such a rosy picture, saddling it with huge debt. The true figures of Maldives debt to China are still not known, such as the magnitude of the crisis.

The sovereignty of islands such as Feydhoo Finolhu in Kaafu Atoll, Fahala in Thaa Atoll and the alarming plan to set up Joint Ocean Meteorological Observation Stations on strategically located Islands across the Maldives, would have been exchanged for debt-relief. Add to this, the rushed though Maldives China Free trade agreement in 2017.

But that chapter is closed with the new government under President Solih taking charge. The first thing New Delhi did was announce of $1.b billion in 2018 during New Maldives President's India visit. And since then the support has been in every way possible, from grant to currency swap to line of credit. In fact, during the covid crisis, India had reached out to Male with medical and food aid.

The key area of focus has been on increasing people-to-people ties, especially with the Malè-Kochi ferry service that will also generate employment in the northern port of Kulhudhuffushi. The project was announced during PM Modi's first foreign visit abroad in his 2nd term last year and came into being earlier this year.

Other than that, projects include water and sewerage systems on 34 islands, Expansion of Hanimaadhoo airport and high-impact community development projects across the Maldives, gifting a Dornier aircraft for ferrying patients from remote Islands, cricket stadium and the list is endless.

And from the community to megaproject, the Indian govt will fund the construction of the Greater Malè Connectivity Project (GMCP). The total cost is $500 million, of which $100 Million is under grant aid and was handed over by the Indian Foreign Secretary during his to the country earlier this month.

The mega project revitalizes the Maldivian economy as well, a stark comparison to the Male-Hulhule China Maldives Friendship Bridge (CMFB) built-in 2018 at the cost of around $300 Million.

India backs the Maldives to the hilt, as China's debt leaves a negative legacy

West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday triggered a controversy by saying that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) would dig out the illegal properties allegedly amassed by several Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders and the culprits would spend "the rest of their lives in prison".

While addressing a programme here, Ghosh said, many leaders of the ruling TMC in the state have made a lot of "illegal" money and "no one will be spared".

"The ED will trace the illegal money and assets. And those TMC leaders will spend rest of their lives in prison," the BJP leader said.

Reacting to Ghosh's comment, senior TMC MP Sougata Roy said, "such statements only prove how the BJP uses central agencies like ED and CBI to pursue their political goals".

"The ED and the CBI have been looking after several cases in Bengal for the last so many years. But to date, nothing has happened. Dilip Ghosh should stop making such laughable comments to energise party cadres," he said.

Referring to the state assembly polls due in April-May next year, the BJP leader said, everyone, will be able to exercise his/her vote freely as central paramilitary forces will ensure a free and fair election.

"I want to assure all that the central government is with you. The Central forces will ensure free and fair assembly election in the state. People will be able to exercise their democratic right without any fear. State police personnel will not be allowed near the polling booths," Ghosh said.

Alleging that a section of TMC workers are still "attacking and terrorising" BJP workers and the common man, he said, the "days of the TMC government are numbered".

Speaking on the poll strategy of the BJP for the assembly polls, Ghosh said, "the party will have a special focus on a social media campaign, and that is why Amit Malviya, who is the BJP's IT cell chief, has been deputed as the co-in charge of the state."

Ghosh also denied to attach much importance to the Congress-CPI(M) alliance in the state and said, both the parties have already been rejected twice, in the 2016 assembly polls and the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
