Washington [US], March 13 (ANI): Singer-songwriter Selena Gomez`s first Spanish EP `Revelacion` is here! On Friday, the singer dropped her seven-track Spanish-language EP, which a tribute to her Latina roots and a gift to her vast fanbase in Latin America. The singer shared the release of her EP on Instagram, writing, "REVELACION is out now / REVELACION disponible ya."Gomez also posted a video on her Instagram story, in which she thanked fans for their love and support."I hope you guys like the album and have so much fun with it because obviously, I`ve been wanting to do this for so, so long. And I`m just so grateful. So I hope you guys like it, and let me know what you think, but I`m just so happy," she said with a wide smile on her face.As per People magazine, the EP includes seven songs `De Una Vez`, `Buscando Amor`, `Baila Conmigo`, `Damelo To`, `Vicio`, `Adios` and `Selfish Love`. Gomez had released the EP`s first single `De Una Vez` in January 2021 and followed it up with `Baila Conmigo` with Rauw Alejandro. Most recently she dropped `Selfish Love` featuring DJ Snake. The singer said it`s typically "easier" for her to sing in Spanish than to speak it but admitted to the Los Angeles Times that she had to sometimes stop recording because she used to get frustrated. She said, "There`s a lot of slang that I needed to learn. Spanish changes generationally as well as geographically. Sometimes I was like, `Wait! Hang on! I need to understand.""There would be moments where I would end the recording session because I would get so frustrated. Not just trying to create an album from my basement but making it sound authentic. That`s something that requires meticulous care. But now, I think I actually sound better in Spanish than I do in English," she added. The EP was entirely produced by Tainy, who is responsible for some of reggaeton`s biggest hits, including Cardi B`s `I Like It`, Dua Lipa`s `Un Dia`, and several of Bad Bunny and J Balvin`s albums.Speaking about the EP, she had earlier told Vogue, "The project is really an homage to my heritage, adding, "It`s a Sasha Fierce moment, for sure."Recently, Gomez made headlines after she spoke about her possible retirement from music to try her hand in acting, but said she wants to give it "one last try".Before she transitioned to music, Gomez starred in Disney`s `Wizards of Waverly Place` from 2007 to 2012. She rose to fame with the show at the age of 15. (ANI)

Indian-origin Rashmi Samant was the first Indian woman to be elected as the President of the Oxford University Students Union. However, her achievement was short-lived as she was forced to resign within a few days.

A student of MSc energy systems at Oxford University, Samant was forced to resign within five days of her appointment over several of her social media posts which were labelled to be anti-Semitic and racist.

While she did issue a public apology for 'unintentionally' hurting anyone's emotions, the Udupi-origin woman believes she was unfairly targeted as a 'conscious attempt'.

"I believe the cancel culture mob got me. There was a conscious attempt made to unearth posts made by me in the past (going back to 2017). These posts were always there. But no one raked up any issue during the election process. It was only after I won that they were brought up. I believe my posts were not malicious or racist. To take offense you have to perceive it in certain manner. Perhaps, people assume the worst in fellow human beings these days," she told Indian Express.

The leaders of the Quad - Indian PM Narendra Modi, Australia's PM Scott Morrison, Japan's PM Yoshihide Suga and US President Joe Biden will be meeting at 7pm virtually.

Sources told WION that the Quad vaccine initiative will basically function as "vaccines developed in the US, manufactured in India, financed by Japan and US, and supported by Australia" and will allow "new manufacturing capacity to be added" in India for exports to the Indo-Pacific region.

India has been playing a major role in terms of providing COVID-19 vaccines to the global community and so far sent vaccines to 69 countries. The total vaccines India has sent, both as gift and commercial is at 585.30 lakh doses. This number includes 1 lakh doses sent to UN Health workers.

Sources explained, "Our role in the Quad vaccine initiative will project and reinforce India’s credentials as a trusted, reliable manufacturer and supplier of quality vaccines."

"It will appreciably expand our vaccine maitri effort" and "strengthen India’s standing.... as a critical node in global health supply chains, and as a selfless contributor to global health security," the source added.

India produces 60 per cent of global vaccines and amid the COVID-19 pandemic has been termed the “pharmacy of the world”.

Last year it sent medicines such as HCQ and Paracetamol to around 150 countries to deal with covid. Interestingly, the Quad+ initiative at the foreign secretary-level regularly met virtually in 2020 to share best practices to deal with the crisis.

Pointing out, sources said, "pooling of individual capacities and strengths by Quad countries" is aimed at "expediting global vaccine delivery" and will help meet the "demand-supply gap, focusing on the Indo-Pacific region."

Beijing sees Quad as "anti China" grouping, something dismissed by member countries.

In the backdrop of Chinese views, the sources said Quad’s "model of enlightened, humanitarian collective action" through the supply of COVID-19 vaccines will "offer a template for peace, cooperation and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region".

A mega Quad vaccine initiative with India as the key will be one of the main outcomes of the first-ever Quad grouping's leadership summit. Watch: The leaders of the Quad - Indian PM Narendra Modi, Australia's PM Scott Morrison, Japan's PM Yoshihide Suga and US President Joe Biden will be meeting at 7pm virtually.

Quad summit to announce 'vaccine initiative' with India's manufacturing at the centre

Even as the Afghan peace process sees a number of developments, the Afghan foreign minister Mohammed Haneef Atmar will be visiting Delhi on March 22.

During the visit, the Afghan FM will hold talks with India's external affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar and call other dignitaries.

The visit comes even as the Biden administration is reviewing the development vis a vis the Afghan peace process. Washington has proposed six countries Afghan talks, including India via the United Nations.

US Secretary of state Antony J. Blinken in a letter to the Afghan president as part of the larger Afghan peace process had said, "We intend to ask the United Nations to convene foreign minister and envoys from Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, India, and the US to discuss a unified approach to supporting peace in Afghanistan."

It is the first high-profile visit from Kabul to Delhi this year. Earlier this year, India's National Security Advisor(NSA) Ajit Doval had visited Kabul and the Afghan leadership, including FM Atmar. Counter-terror, building regional consensus for supporting peace in Afghanistan were the key topics of discussions.

In a statement after NSA's call on to Afghan President Ghani, a statement from the Afghan government said "Afghanistan and India in joint efforts with NATO and the United States will be able to succeed in the fight against terrorism."

Last year saw three high-level visits from Afghanistan. These were, visit by Abdul Rashid Dostum, former vice president of Afghanistan, chairperson of Afghanistan's High Council for National Reconciliation Dr Abdullah Abdullah, and senior Afghan politician Ata Mohammad Noor.

India is planning a digital firewall against China. It has stopped short of banning Chinese telecom equipment. However, now, a new policy is in the works that would make it harder for Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE to do business in India.

India's department of telecommunications has made a few amendments and the licensing conditions have been changed. Now, Indian telecom companies will have to consider "defence and national security" before buying equipment. They will be required to source from "trusted telecom equipment sources" which can loosely be translated to suppliers India can trust.

This classification is the result of last year's activities in India's cabinet committee on security — the final decision-making body on national security — which had issued a new directive. It called for telecom products to be classified under two categories, namely "trusted" and "non-trusted".

Now, the new rules kick in from June 15 and once that happens, the telecom companies will not be able to use any products that are labelled "non-trusted". Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE will feel the pinch as no one will be able to use their gear if they are labelled "non-trusted".

Huawei and ZTE have been accused of installing back-doors in their technology. These are vulnerabilities that might leave doors open for hackers to exploit.

India's biggest telecom operators, including state-run telecom companies, have equipment from Chinese vendors.

Curbs on Chinese technology is now becoming a necessity, especially after it emerged that Chinese hackers tried to target critical infrastructure in India using malware last year, at the peak of the border standoff in Ladakh. Chinese hackers were linked to last year's blackout in Mumbai which had brought the entire city to a standstill.

Reportedly, India is now planning to strengthen its cybersecurity with a new national strategy. Under this, digitally connected government systems and India's nuclear power and aviation infrastructure will be secured.

Chinese hackers are becoming the next big national security threat. Just this week, we learnt about the hack at Microsoft where at least 30,000 American organisations, including local governments, were hacked.

According to a report, this is a Chinese cyber espionage campaign in which flaws within Microsoft's exchange software were exploited. A cybersecurity news website claimed that emails were stolen and computers were infected with tools that let attackers take control of systems remotely.

"We don't have rules of engagement in cyberspace. Modern nations don't have rules they're playing by, and what I just saw was china doing something they don't normally do. So that means they're expanding, they're implementing what they are thinking is permissible. So we're going to have to define rules," said Kevin Mandia, CEO and Director or FireEye. "We don't have rules of engagement in cyberspace".

The death toll climbed to 10,934 with three more fatalities, the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi Health Department stated.

Delhi had recorded 370 new cases on Wednesday and 320 on Tuesday. The city reported three deaths due to the disease on Wednesday and four on Tuesday.

On Sunday and Monday, 286 and 239 cases, respectively, were recorded in the national capital. The city had registered 321 coronavirus cases and one death last Saturday, and 312 cases and a fatality on Friday.

A total of 585 cases were reported on January 1 and 384 on January 4. The daily count had dropped to 306 on January 11 and risen again to 386 on January 12, according to official figures.

The numbers had started to come down in February. On February 26, the month's highest daily count of 256 cases was recorded.

On Thursday, 409 new coronavirus cases were recorded, taking the infection tally to 6,42,439, the bulletin said.

The number of active cases of the disease in the city rose to 2,020 from 1,900 on Wednesday, while the positivity rate rose to 0.59 from 0.52 per cent the previous day.

Delhi records 409 fresh COVID-19 cases, highest in over 2 months

The Centre on Thursday said Bharat Biotech's indigenously developed Covaxin is out of the "clinical trial mode" and that it has now been granted the regular restricted emergency use authorisation just like Covishield manufactured by Serum Institute.

Addressing a weekly press conference, NITI Aayog member (Health) Dr V K Paul said Covaxin and Covishield have the same licensure status now.

"The condition of it (Covaxin) being required to be administered under clinical trial mode is no more there," Paul said.

"Both the COVID-19 vaccines Covaxin and Covishield have the same licensure status. It has already being given to around 19 lakh people. Covaxin has stood the test of time in terms of great safety. Only 311 individuals had minimal side effects. It is the triumph for India's research and development enterprise and science and technology enterprise," he said.

India's drug regulator on January 3 had granted permission for the restricted use of Covaxin in emergency situations in the public interest as an abundant precaution, in clinical trial mode, especially in case of infection by mutant strains.

The Subject Expert Panel on COVID-19 of the CDSCO had recommended granting emergency use authorisation to Bharat Biotech's indigenously developed Covaxin while removing the condition for the vaccine to be administered in "clinical trial mode".

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) in a communique to Bharat Biotech said, "Accordingly, based on the recommendations of the SEC, the condition, 'this permission is for restricted use in emergency situation in public interest as an abundant precaution in clinical trial mode' in the permission is amended to read as this permission is for restricted use in emergency situation in public interest."

"However, you are required to continue ongoing phase-3 clinical trial as per approved clinical trial protocol and submit revised summary of product characteristics, prescribing information and fact sheet," it said.

Replying to a question whether the government has a timeline in mind for phase 3 vaccination drive and who gets included in that, Paul said, "We are now focused on the relatively large group of individuals above the age of 60 as well as those aged 45- 60 with comorbidities. We are building a momentum to cover this significantly large group."

"We will see progress and moving forward, yes, further increase in the circle of those who are eligible will be considered," Paul said.

Continuing its vaccine diplomacy, India will send to Iran 500,000 doses of Indian Covid vaccine Covaxin, the first tranche of which reached the country on Thursday. India has already dispatched 125,000 doses of Covaxin, produced by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech, to the Islamic Republic.

"A tradition of exchanges continues. Made in India vaccines arrive in Iran," tweeted India's External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar.

This is the first shipment of Indian vaccines to Iran. Next week, the country will receive 375,000 doses of Covaxin from India as part of the second consignment. Covaxin has demonstrated an efficacy rate of 81%.

Iranian Health Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour tweeted,"125,000 doses of Covaxin is being exported from Hyderabad customs to Iran, today."

WION had first reported last month that Tehran had requested India for vaccines. India has so far sent India-made Covid vaccines to 68 countries, either as a gift or on a commercial basis. The total quantity of such vaccines stands at 583.05 lakh doses, which includes doses for UN peacekeepers. India started its Covid vaccine exports in January, days after it began its mega domestic Covid vaccination programme.

Amid a daily rise in coronavirus cases, the Indian government on Thursday asked people to not lower their guard against the virus, underscoring the "pandemic is not yet over".

If we have to remain free of this virus, COVID-appropriate behaviour, containment strategy as well as vaccination has to be brought in," NITI Aayog member (Health) VK Paul said.

Indian govt voices concern over rise in Covid-19 cases, says 'be careful, watchful'

It's official now. The Quad will hold its first-ever summit this week on Friday. Leaders from the United States, Japan, India and Australia will hold a virtual summit. The agenda will be wide-ranging but the focus is clear-- countering the common threat-- and the warning is specific. It comes from Admiral Philip Davidson, the commander of the US Indo-Pacific command.

Davidson says, "China is the greatest long term strategic threat to security in the 21st century and if the US and its allies do not act, they could be left behind."

China's approach to the region includes an effort of coercing, corrupt and collapse governments, businesses, organisations and the people of the Indo-Pacific.

As China continues to increase the size of the PLA and advance their own joint capabilities, the military imbalance in the Indo-Pacific is becoming more unfavourable for the United States and its allies.

So what is the threat assessment of the commander?

China is speeding up plans to overtake the US on the world stage but the threat is not limited to the US. China could invade Taiwan within the next six years. The Chinese military is expanding its assets in the region and the US believes the level of deterrence is reducing.

What about India?

The admiral had something to say about India too. It's about the border standoff. The US commander says it's not over yet. "The PLA has not yet withdrawn from several forward positions it seized following the initial clash, and the consequent escalation of tensions between the PRC and India has resulted in casualties on both sides.”

The commander believes Chinese aggression on the LAC is a manifestation of Beijing's 'expansionary territorial ambitions'. China's large-scale mobilisation of troops is a matter of concern, not just for India but for the US too. Admiral Davidson told US lawmakers that China had deployed 'roughly 50,000 soldiers' along the LAC. He believes this was a major move. Such a massive deployment on difficult terrain signals that Beijing is ready to use force to achieve desired outcomes. It raises the threat of war so any country that has interests in the Indo-Pacific, must be wary of China's growing military moves. So, what's the solution?

The US military establishment is banking on the Quad. While testifying before the lawmakers, Admiral Davidson described the Quad as ''a diamond of democracies''.

The US defence department says building alliances with partners is now 'tremendously important' as the statement suggests the Quad cannot just have a military dimension. It must have a bigger mandate. The Quad could change the way the world approaches global economy, critical technologies like telecommunications and 5G, and even collaboration on the international order.

The potential of the Quad is immense but what has been lacking is the political will as the leaders sit down for their first summit on this Friday. They should appreciate the weight of expectations and the criticality of their situation.

China could invade Taiwan within the next six years. The Chinese military is expanding its assets in the region and the US believes the level of deterrence is reducing. What about India? The admiral had something to say about India too. It's about the border standoff. The US commander says it's not over yet. "The PLA has not yet withdrawn from several forward positions it seized following the initial clash, and the consequent escalation of tensions between the PRC and India has resulted in casualties on both sides.” The commander believes Chinese aggression on the LAC is a manifestation of Beijing's 'expansionary territorial ambitions'.

A "strict lockdown" will be enforced in Nagpur from March 15 to 21 in view of spike in COVID-19 cases here, district guardian minister Nitin Raut announced on Thursday.

The district has been reporting a spike in daily cases since the last month.

Raut chaired a meeting of top district officials and later told reporters that the lockdown will be enforced in the Nagpur Police Commissionerate limits from March 15 to 21.

Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray had last year in January had appointed guardian ministers for all 36 districts of the state.

During the lockdown, private offices will remain closed, while government offices will work at 25 per cent capacity, said Raut.
Shops of essential commodities will remain open, the minister said. Liquor will be sold online only during the lockdown period.

Raut said people should not move out unnecessarily.

On February 22, some restrictions were imposed in Nagpur, including strict curbs on weekends.

On Wednesday, the district reported 1,710 new coronavirus cases, which pushed its overall tally to 1,62,053. There are 12,166 active COVID-19 cases at present in Nagpur.

A total of 4,417 people have died due to the viral infection in the district so far, as per official figures.

India on Wednesday played a constructive role in the presidential statement that was issued by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) regarding the situation in Myanmar.

The statement by the UNSC reiterated "deep concern" about the development in Myanmar while condemning the "violence against peaceful protesters". The one-page statement expressed "deep concern" over restrictions against medical personnel, civil society, labour union members, journalists and media workers, and "called for the immediate release of all those detained arbitrarily".

This is the first time the UNSC statement has "condemned" the violence in Myanmar.

India's "constructive" engagement was reflected in the UNSC statement and also in line with its previous statement at the United Nations. When it comes to New Delhi's policy on Myanmar, it was explicitly mentioned by India's ambassador to the UN, TS Tirumurti, at the United Nations General Assembly in February. While expressing "concerns", the envoy called out for "restoration of democratic order", the release of political detainees, and the development should not impact the repatriation of Rohingya refugees to the country.

The UNSC presidential statement builds upon the earlier press statement of February 4. The core UN group had met back then, days after February 1 coup.

Back then, India was widely appreciated for playing an "important" role by being the "bridge" and making sure that there is a balanced approach in the text. In both major conversations at the UN high table, India did not take sides with the Chinese or Russian position.

Interestingly, immediately after the UNSC statement, the Chinese envoy to United Nations Zhang Jun issued a statement and parroted the line of Myanmar's military.
In reply to the UNSC statement, China said, "Now it's time for de-escalation. It's time for diplomacy. It's time for dialogue".

"The international community should create an enabling environment for relevant parties in Myanmar to address differences under the constitutional and legal framework," he added.

Question is that half the "relevant parties" is the disposed civilian government of the country which is in jail for any "differences" to be addressed. As for the "constitutional or legal" framework, many will see it being violated by Tatmadaw or the armed forces of Myanmar in the first place.

The Chinese statement was seen as one backsliding on the UNSC presidential statement. The statement also had no mention of the restoration of democracy or the release of detainees, unlike the Indian statement at UNGA.

The US, which is the chair of the UNSC for the month of March, also issued a statement commending the "courage and determination" of the "peaceful protesters" in Burma in the "face of continued, brutal attacks by military and security forces."

The US does not recognise "Myanmar" as the official name of the country but refers to it as Burma. Myanmar was the name adopted by the country's military in 1989.

Asserting that a self-reliant India is good for the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that at the core of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' is to create wealth and values "not only for ourselves but for the larger humanity".

Speaking at the launch of the Kindle version of Swami Chidbhavananda's 'Bhagavad Gita' via video conferencing, the prime minister said 1.3 billion people of India have decided their course of action which is that they are going to make India 'Atmanirbhar' or self-reliant.

"In the long term, only a self-reliant India is in everyone's interest. At the core of Atmanirbhar Bharat is to create wealth and values not only for ourselves but for the larger humanity. We believe that an Atmanirbhar Bharat is good for the world," he said.

In the recent past, when the world needed medicines, India did whatever it could to provide them, he said

"Our scientists worked in a quick time to come out with vaccines. Now, India is humbled that vaccines made in India are going around the world. We want to heal as well as help humanity. This is exactly what the Bhagavad Gita teaches us," the prime minister stressed.

He said when the Bhagavad Gita was born there was conflict and many feel that humanity is passing through similar conflict and challenges now, Modi said.

"The world is fighting a tough battle against a once-in-a-lifetime global pandemic. The economic and social impacts are also far reaching. In such a time, the path shown in Bhagavad Gita becomes ever relevant," he asserted.

It could provide strength and direction to once again emerge victorious from the challenges humanity faces, he said.

"In India, we saw many instances of this. --our people-powered fight against COVID-19, the outstanding spirit of the people, the courage of citizens, one can say that behind this is a glimpse of what the Gita highlights," he said.

Noting that e-books are becoming very popular specially among the youth, Modi said, therefore, this effort will connect more youngsters with the?noble thoughts of the Gita.

The beauty of the Gita is in its depth, diversity and flexibility, he said.

Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all is one of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Bringing education to rural and underprivileged children is crucial to achieving this goal.

With this aim, Mobius Foundation has been running Gyan Anant Vidyalaya (GAV) in the rural area of Ghaziabad district of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

GAV will be a K-12 CBSE board, Co-education School, with the session beginning on April 21.

Located near village Atrauli, the Vidyalaya provides quality education to rural children. GAV has all the facilities of an urban school to fulfil the aspirations of the rural population.

The school is different as it focuses on the all-round development of the children, to help them become responsible citizens.

GAV seeks to support rural children in nurturing various skills and talents to the fullest extent. Besides shaping up responsible and competent citizens, the emphasis is on spreading knowledge and awareness on sustainability, to ensure children resonate with nature and feel responsible towards it.

GAV's vision is to provide quality education in a secure, eco-friendly and nurturing environment. Its mission is to help students develop into proactive thinkers and responsible citizens committed to the goals of sustainability.

GAV aims to address environmental issues by bringing awareness through sustainable education. It is a place where new ideas germinate, develop roots and grow tall and sturdy.

GAV has infrastructure comparable to any urban school, thereby addressing the requirement of best in class infrastructure in the rural areas to reduce urban-rural divide.

Diversity of subjects and co-curricular activities along with the guidance of competent teachers is aimed at ensuring that students reach their full potential.

Education at GAV is meant to spread awareness about environmental issues and thus aims to be an epicentre for spreading awareness on sustainability and efforts to lead to a self-sustained society.

Students will understand key areas of sustainability such as reducing air pollution, maximising the use of renewable energy, waste management and recycling of resources, which have become the prime concern for the preservation of our planet and the survival of future generation.

The School has been awarded IGBC Green School Platinum rating for sustainable design and development for its infrastructure.

Teachers with excellence in their respective domains will be chosen from a vast pool of talent to guide the school towards excellence.

They will focus on shaping the leaders of tomorrow by providing quality education. They will help students put sustainability education into practice.

Teachers with a learning approach to impart knowledge with enthusiasm will be selected. The team will undergo a training programme to imbibe and acquire Mobius values, SDGs and aspects of climate reality on joining.

The school will employ the latest teaching techniques to ensure that students not only earn certificates but also accumulate knowledge during their stay.

The school believes in creating mature, knowledgeable individuals who are an asset to their society.

Renewable Energy Park on the campus is planned to reflect usage of solar light, airpower and biogas.

It will promote eco-friendly commuting practice by providing bicycle facility and bus services.

The campus is designed for universal accessibility, having separate specially designed toilets and parking, proper ramps, and tactile flooring for the especially abled.

A small family is a happy family. A society with happy families is a sustainable society.

Population and poverty have a correlation, as overpopulated societies would find it difficult to share available natural resources, food, education, and health care, among other things. A sustainable society is one with a stable population. It will lead to equality and prosperity.

India is committed to promoting population stabilisation as part of sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.

To this end, the Aakar project, established by Mobius Foundation, runs several outreach programmes to counsel women and couples planning to start families. The foundation also organises a monthly Happy Family Day, or Khushal Pariwar Divas, to create awareness about sustainable population.

Aakar is being implemented in two districts of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. More than 200 villages across 27 blocks are being covered in coordination with the district family welfare department for carrying outreach exercises at the village level.

The focus is on targeted counselling and reaching out more to eligible couples in order to expand the services and reach of the project.

Aakar's awareness programme is now tailored towards targeting individual couples than mass counselling, for better impact and results.

Family planning counselling is being done with the help of Asha Aanganwadi and other female volunteers at the village level.

Male volunteers associated with the project have established relationship with males within village communities.

In an innovative intervention method to expand the reach of project Aakar, counselling is done to lactating mothers seeking health services at government hospitals, community health centres and primary health care providers.

Data of people who counsel for vasectomy is also collected by volunteers and counsellors.

The data is shared with the district level authorities.

Khushal Parivar Diwas: A day for a happy family

National Health Mission (NHM), Uttar Pradesh, is promoting family planning from the viewpoint of beneficiaries.

NHM and health ministry marks 21st of every month as Khushal Parivar Diwas, or happy family day, to create an informal ecosystem around family planning to reach out to young men and women. Mobius Foundation is collaborating with the state government as a partner for organising these monthly events.

The focus is to inform and empower future parents. On this day, various activities are organised to promote family planning at health units from the state to the village level.
Based on the guidelines of NHM, Mobius Foundation organised Khushaal Parivar diwas, and family planning camp was set up in community health centres.

More than 100 people visited the camp and 50 couples were counselled on family planning. Pahal kits were given to newly married couples by CHC’s counsellor. The kits consist of contraceptive pills, condoms, a mirror, two towels, handkerchiefs, bindi, comb, nail cutter and a dossier educating the newlyweds about family planning.

Khushal Parivar Diwas: A day for a happy family National Health Mission (NHM), Uttar Pradesh, is promoting family planning from the viewpoint of beneficiaries.

United States Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin will be on an India visit on March 19-21 as part of his first overseas travel since taking charge at the Pentagon. This is the first in-person visit by an official of the Joe Biden administration to India, and comes just two months after the new US president took charge. WION was the first channel to break the news over the weekend.

Announcing his visit, which will also take him to Japan and South Korea, the US defence secretary tweeted, "I’ll then travel to India to meet with my counterpart, Minister of Defense Rajnath Singh , and other senior national security leaders to discuss deepening the US-India Major Defense Partnership and advancing cooperation between our countries."

In a statement ahead of Austin's weeklong trip to the region that begins on March 13, the Pentagon said that the focus will be on "advancing cooperation between our countries for a free, prosperous and open Indo-Pacific and Western Indian Ocean Region."

His visit comes in the backdrop of the first summit of Quad- India, Australia, Japan and the US- which will be held virtually. This is the first such meet at the leadership level for the grouping. Previous meetings have been at the levels of senior officials and foreign ministers.

During the visit, Austin will hold talks with Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

"Both sides are expected to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation and exchange views on regional security challenges and common interests in maintaining a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region," the Indian defence ministry said in a statement.

Both countries have increased defence partnership in recent years. India signed four key defence pacts with US in the past few years. The Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) in 2018 enhanced information sharing and interoperability. The Industrial Security Annex (ISA), signed in December 2019, allows for the transfer of technologies in support of defence production. The Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA) is for sharing unclassified geospatial information. The agreement on Navy-to-Navy Information Sharing was signed in October 2020.

India has substantially increased its acquisition of US defence equipment, with Indian forces operating US-sourced platforms such as P-8s, C-130Js, C-17s, AH-64s, CH-47s, Precision Guided-Excalibur Munitions, and M777 howitzers. In February, India agreed to acquire Apache and MH-60R multi-mission helicopters worth $3.1 billion, and is considering other US systems.

US has sent its laison officer for the Information Fusion Centre for the Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) based in Gurugram, which keeps an eye on any movement in the Indian Ocean region. This is key to track the movement of Chinese vessels that have been encroaching into the area. Both have been part of joint military-to-military exercises like Tiger Triumph and Malabar.
