Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today noted that India will soon become a $1 trillion digital economy.
The minister noted that his ministry is working toward achieving the goal in the next five years.
If the goal is achieved it will help create as many as 75 lakh new jobs.
The minister reached Hyderabad to attend the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) 2018 and addressed the inaugural session of the Congress.
Prasad also reasoned that new technologies create more jobs than displacing the existing ones and help in empowering, educating people.

The minister spoke in support of newer technologies like artificial intelligence as well as robotic technology.
"Once the power of technology is recognized it will have smooth sailing," the minister noted.
Prasad also shared that the country's digital story is finding resonance at the global level. More and more digital companies are coming to India, he said.
Prasad also talked about the government's flagship digital projects like Digital India, Make in India, Skill India and Startup India. All these programmes were initiated to empower Indians with technology that is affordable and inclusive.
"The real vision of Digital India to bridge the digital divide and empower ordinary Indians through digital delivery of services," he added.
