Ruben Amorim's side trailed to Jean-Philippe Mateta's first half penalty at Selhurst Park, but Zirkzee and Mount netted after the interval to secure United's first win in four games.

Joshua Zirkzee scored his first Premier League goal for nearly a year before Mason Mount grabbed the winner as Manchester United came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Sunday. Ruben Amorim's side trailed to Jean-Philippe Mateta's first half penalty at Selhurst Park, but Zirkzee and Mount netted after the interval to secure United's first win in four games. United recovered from their lacklustre start thanks to Zirkzee's first goal in the Premier League since he netted against Everton in December 2024. The much-maligned Dutch striker had gone 24 league games without a goal, adding to perception that his £36 million ($47.7million) move from Bologna in 2024 was a bad investment. Zirkzee, 24, had failed to score in his eight previous appearances dating back to April. Plagued by injuries, Mount has also struggled since joining United from Chelsea and this was just his second goal this season. Beaten by Everton's 10 men at Old Trafford on Monday, United's first victory since October was a much-needed boost for Amorim. The fact that is was Palace's first defeat at Selhurst Park in the Premier League since February 15 underlined the challenge of United's gritty fightback in freezing south London. Amorim had said this week that there were "no excuses" for United's sputtering start to the season after last term's troubles. He will have been relieved to see United dig deep to subdue the FA Cup holders, who have proved a thorn in the side of the Premier League elite since Oliver Glasner took charge. Casemiro should have given United the lead inside the first 60 seconds after a long-throw caused chaos in the Palace defence, but the Brazilian's close-range effort was parried by Dean Henderson. Lammens was called into action to save Daichi Kamada's low drive from the edge of the area before Yoro blocked Yeremy Pino's goal-bound strike. United were on the ropes and it was little surprise when Palace took the lead in the 36th minute. Yoro conceded the penalty with a crude lunge on Mateta, who scored from the spot only to have his goal disallowed for a double-touch as he kicked the ball. Due to a new rule implemented this season, accidental double-touch penalties are now taken again if the initial kick was successful. Running onto Bruno Fernandes' free-kick, Zirkzee controlled on his chest and smashed a brilliant strike across Henderson into the far corner from an almost impossible angle. Zirkzee nearly found the back of the net at the other end moments after his goal as he inadvertently deflected the ball towards Lammens' net before it was scrambled to safety. Meanwhile, the call to add Hyderabad to Messi’s GOAT tour came in the aftermath of the cancellation of Argentina’s proposed friendly in Kochi, originally scheduled for November 17, as also announced by Kerala Sports Minister V Abdurahiman. Besides, the latest plan ensured Messi’s much-awaited tour would span across the country's four corners - east (Kolkata), south (Hyderabad), west (Mumbai), and north (New Delhi). An Indian Express report also confirms that, alongside Messi, the Indian fans will see Argentina great Luis Suarez and Rodrigo de Paul feature in the tour, both of whom share a close bond with Messi. This visit, however, would be Messi’s second to India since a friendly against Venezuela at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium in 2011. Incidentally, that was the first time Messi captained Argentina.

It is the second time in his professional career that Lionel Messi will visit India. He first visited the country 14 years ago in 2011.

Global star and football great Lionel Messi’s GOAT India tour will kick off in the second week of December, and the Argentine captain has an update for his Indian fans. In his latest social media post, Messi confirmed Hyderabad as the latest and final entrant to his four-city tour of India, scheduled to kick off in Kolkata on December 13. The World Cup-winning captain will be in Hyderabad after the Kolkata leg, later proceeding to Mumbai and then to the capital city (New Delhi), where he might also meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Thanks for all the love from India! The GOAT tour kicks off in a few weeks’ time!!! I’m happy to share that Hyderabad has been added to my visits to Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi. See you soon India!” Messi posted.

Luis Enrique's men wasted no time in responding as Vitinha curled in another brilliant strike from the edge of the box, before Fabian Ruiz put them in front for the first time. Willian Pacho appeared to have put the game to bed, but Kolo Muani drilled in to give Tottenham renewed hope against his parent club. PSG finally secured the three points through a Vitinha penalty in the 76th minute. "It is the first time in my career I have scored a hat-trick and even scored two goals in one match, so it is really special," Vitinha told Canal Plus. Four-goal Mbappe Mbappe ran riot as Real Madrid moved into fifth place and snapped a three-game winless streak. Olympiacos grabbed a surprise early lead when Chiquinho finished off a quick passing move with a powerful shot past stand-in Madrid 'keeper Andriy Lunin. But Mbappe levelled midway through the first half and scored his second just two minutes later, heading in Arda Guler's cross. He completed his fifth Champions League treble after racing clear on goal. Mehdi Taremi pulled one back for the Greeks early in the second period but Mbappe quickly restored Real's two-goal advantage. Olympiacos' Ayoub El Kaabi halved the deficit but the 15-time European champions held on. Last season's runners-up Inter Milan missed out on the chance to go second in the table as Jose Gimenez's injury-time goal snatched Atletico Madrid a 2-1 win at the Metropolitano. Atalanta climbed to 10th with an impressive 3-0 triumph at Eintracht Frankfurt, while David Luiz scored as Pafos held Monaco to a 2-2 draw in Cyprus.

Slot's struggling side hit back quickly as Dominik Szoboszlai slotted in after visiting goalkeeper Matej Kovar could only parry Cody Gakpo's shot. PSV came out firing after the interval and restored their lead when Mauro Junior's brilliant pass was steered in expertly by Guus Til.

A British driver broke down in court Wednesday as he dramatically changed his plea and admitted deliberately ploughing his car into crowds at Liverpool's Premier League victory parade, injuring scores of people. Paul Doyle had for months denied 31 criminal charges, including causing grievous bodily harm with intent, wounding with intent, affray and dangerous driving during the Liverpool city centre incident in May. But on the second day of his trial and as prosecutors prepared to begin presenting their evidence against him, the 54-year-old sensationally reversed course. Wearing a suit and glasses, he sobbed and stared at the floor as he repeatedly said "guilty" with a faltering voice to each count. Judge Andrew Menary said he will pass sentence over two days starting on December 15, telling Doyle to prepare for "a custodial sentence of some length". The maximum sentence for the most serious offences is life imprisonment. Doyle, from a Liverpool suburb and reportedly a former Royal Marine, drove his Ford Galaxy Titanium into more than 100 people as they were leaving the parade celebrating Liverpool Football Club's victory on May 26. He injured 134, including infants, other children and adults, according to Merseyside Police. There were no fatalities, but 50 people required hospital treatment. Its players had paraded the trophy along the city's waterfront in front of hundreds of thousands of fans. Some roads in the central area had been closed to normal traffic to allow the parade to pass. Police swiftly declared that the incident was not terrorism. The circumstances of the alleged attack had remained largely unclear, but it now appears to have been an extreme case of road rage. Sarah Hammond, the Crown Prosecution Service's top regional prosecutor, said dashcam footage from Doyle's vehicle showed he became "increasingly agitated by the crowds". "Rather than wait for them to pass, he deliberately drove at them, forcing his way through," she said in a statement following his guilty pleas. "Driving a vehicle into a crowd is an act of calculated violence," she added. "This was not a momentary lapse by Paul Doyle -- it was a choice he made that day and it turned celebration into mayhem." Hammond said he had "finally accepted that he intentionally drove into crowds of innocent people". Father-of-three Doyle, who has been in custody since his arrest, will remain in prison ahead of his sentencing. Merseyside Police Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald said it was "hard to forget the shocking scenes from that day". "What should have been a day of celebration for the city turned into a distressing and frightening experience which we know continues to have a physical and psychological impact on many people." Noting that some of the seriously injured victims had been trapped under the car, he added it was "only by sheer luck that nobody was killed because of Doyle's reckless actions". "We know that a lot of people are still recovering from the injuries they suffered on that day," Fitzgerald said. "We hope that the knowledge Doyle is now facing a considerable prison sentence will be able to help those affected to move on with their lives." Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was asked at his pre-match press conference on Monday whether Spain international Yamal, just three months younger than Estevao, would be a good role model for his player.

Enzo Maresca has played down comparisons between rival teenage wingers Estevao and Lamine Yamal on the eve of Chelsea's Champions League clash against Barcelona on Tuesday. Estevao, 18, has caught the eye since arriving at Stamford Bridge in July, with nine goals for club and country. Chelsea manager Maresca was asked at his pre-match press conference on Monday whether Spain international Yamal, just three months younger than Estevao, would be a good role model for his player. But the Italian said the Brazilian was already established at the top level despite his tender years. "Estevao is already playing at a high level, he is already in the starting eleven with Brazil," Maresca told reporters. "For sure he is very young, he can do many things better, but we are very happy with him. "It's nice for people that love football to watch players like Estevao, like Lamine Yamal, like (Barcelona midfielder) Pedri. This is the beauty of football." Maresca said Estevao must shut out the noise. "He is going to be for sure an important player for this club," he said. "For the future, no doubt. "He has to be happy. He has not to think about being better than this player or the other player. Pep Guardiola stormed onto the pitch at full-time to confront referee Sam Barrott, but later said "everything is fine" when asked about the incident.

Pep Guardiola was left fuming after Newcastle dented Manchester City's Premier League title challenge with a controversial 2-1 victory on Saturday. Guardiola's side trailed to Harvey Barnes' second-half opener at St James' Park before Ruben Dias equalised for the visitors. Moments after Dias levelled, Barnes bagged Newcastle's contentious second goal, which was allowed to stand after a lengthy VAR check for a potential offside against Bruno Guimaraes. Guardiola felt City keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma had been fouled in the build-up to Barnes' winner and was also aggrieved over a rejected first-half penalty claim by Phil Foden. Guardiola stormed onto the pitch at full-time to confront referee Sam Barrott, but later said "everything is fine" when asked about the incident. "It happened in the Bournemouth game and it happened today again. It is what it is after VAR decided. They know perfectly," he said with a hint of sarcasm about Newcastle's second goal. "You see Donnarumma complain and that is because something wrong happened. "It was an entertaining game, we both had chances and then there was a momentum shift and ultimately we couldn't win." City's fourth league defeat this season left them in third place, four points behind leaders Arsenal, who host Tottenham on Sunday. City went into the international break with a 3-0 victory over troubled champions Liverpool that made it seven wins from eight games in all competitions. But they squandered that momentum in an error-strewn display on Tyneside as Erling Haaland was held without a goal for only the third time in 21 matches for City and Norway this season. ALSO READ | From Steve Smith to Joe Root, 5 active batters with most runs in Ashes Haaland was hoping to score his 100th league goal in his 109th appearance since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. But he wasted several chances and Newcastle took advantage to beat City for just the second time in their last 36 league meetings. Eddie Howe's first win over City in 19 top-flight attempts eased the pain of Newcastle's successive league defeats at West Ham and Brentford before the international break. Donnarumma nearly gifted Newcastle the lead inside 30 seconds with a woeful pass that was intercepted by Barnes, but the winger wasted the chance as he shot straight at the Italian from 10 yards. ALSO READ | From Leonard Hutton to Don Bradman, 5 batters with highest individual score in Ashes Profligate City Haaland was guilty of an equally bad miss moments later, scuffing his attempt to chip over Nick Pope after the Newcastle keeper reacted to Jeremy Doku's pass by rashly racing out of his area. Foden blazed wide from a good position inside the area before appealing in vain for a penalty after Fabian Schar left him writhing in pain with a crunching tackle in the same incident. Foden and City's coaching staff were furious with the decision, their frustration mounting when Jacob Murphy avoided conceding a spot-kick after blocking Doku's shot with his arm. In a half of poor finishing, Barnes was guilty of the worst moment when he contrived to shoot wide from close range with the goal at his mercy. Even Haaland was off the mark, flicking Nico O'Reilly's cross straight at Pope from five yards. Remarkably, the unmarked Foden produced a worse miss, dragging wide from Rayan Cherki's pass just before half-time. City finally cracked as Barnes made amends for his earlier misses with a fine finish in the 64th minute, lashing a low drive past Donnarumma from the edge of the area after Guimaraes' run and pass prised open the defence. Guardiola's men trailed for just four minutes. Bernardo Silva's shot was blocked towards Dias and the Portugal defender's powerful strike from 12 yards deflected in off Schar. But Dias's first league goal since he scored at Newcastle four years ago sparked an immediate response from Howe's side. When Nick Woltemade guided his header across goal, Guimaraes nodded against the bar and the rebound fell to Barnes to volley home. The long VAR check for offside against Guimaraes seemed to favour City but it eventually went in Newcastle's favour as the Magpies faithful hailed a memorable victory.
