Luke Shaw opens up on injury that has kept him on the sidelines
England and Manchester United player Luke Shaw has admitted that he and the medical staff at the club made a mistake with his injury that has put major doubt on his chances of starring in the Euro 2024.
Shaw featured for United only 15 times in the 23-24 season and has been struggling to get back to full fitness as the continental championship gets underway next week. Shaw said he pushed himself to play the FA Cup final against Manchester city which further aggravated his injury.
Shaw explained that prior to the domestic cup final, a similar mistake was made when he went off with injury at half-time against Aston Villa in February. Despite the injury, Shaw was given the all-clear by the United medical team and the injury flared up in the game against Luton Town.
“It’s kind of everyone’s fault. Partly my fault, partly medical staff, I think everyone would admit that. I didn’t train the whole week. The scan came back and there wasn’t too much there. But I didn’t train all week, then trained the day before the game. If the manager asks me to play, I’m never going to say no. I shouldn’t have played," said Shaw.
"The circumstances were that I did push to do everything I can to be fit for United, and that's been my whole season, really. In my opinion, I was pushing to try and get back for the games and the final, and I think I pushed too hard," he added.

Only left-back in the squad
Shaw is the only designated left-back in the England squad and his absence has disturbed the balance of the playing XI. Gareth Southgate has fielded Kieran Trippier and Joe Gomez in the two friendlies ahead of the Euros but they both haven't looked as effective going forward as Shaw.
England square up againstSerbia in the opening match of the tournament. However, Shaw is not optimistic of making itto the XI as he has only got 'one chance' in the Euro.
"I would love to make the first game, but I don't want to rush too quickly because realistically I've only got one chance. If I feel something, then that's it. I don't want that to happen," saidShaw.
England were defeated 0-1 by Iceland in the last friendly before the tournament as Southgate's tactical frailties came out in the open yet again.
