GM to launch first ethanol-capable hybrid-flex vehicles in Brazil

General Motors has announced plans to produce its first-ever hybrid-flex vehicles in Brazil, marking a significant step towards expanding its sustainable transportation options in the country. These vehicles, which can run on 100% ethanol or gasoline alongside their batteries, are expected to contribute to Brazil's decarbonisation efforts and further solidify GM's presence in the South American market.

Hybrid-flex vehicles are a type of hybrid vehicle that combines a combustion engine capable of running on various ethanol blends with an electric motor. This combination allows for greater flexibility and efficiency, as drivers can choose to operate on either gasoline or ethanol, depending on availability and personal preference.

GM's decision to produce hybrid-flex vehicles in Brazil aligns with the country's strong ethanol industry, which has made ethanol-powered vehicles a popular choice among consumers. Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin has praised hybrid-flex vehicles as a valuable asset for the nation's decarbonisation efforts. These vehicles offer a practical and efficient solution for reducing emissions and promoting sustainable transportation.

In addition to hybrid-flex vehicles, GM is also exploring the possibility of developing a plug-in hybrid-flex model. This type of vehicle would combine the benefits of hybrid-flex technology with the ability to plug in and recharge its battery, offering even greater flexibility and potential for reduced emissions.
