<p>Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to make history as it looks forward to attempting a successful soft landing on the moon on August 23 under its Chandrayaan-3 mission.</p>

<p>Earlier, the spacecraft performed a successful separation of Vikram lander from the propulsion module on August 17.</p>

<h2><strong>Biggest challenge for ISRO</strong></h2>

<p>ISRO Chairperson S Somanath said that the next biggest challenge for ISRO would be to change the direction of the lander. He mentioned that the initial velocity during the landing process is approximately 1.68 km per second, but this speed runs parallel to the moon's surface.&nbsp;<br />

The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft is currently tilted at almost a 90-degree angle and needs to transition to a vertical position.</p>

<p>The ISRO chief referred to this manoeuvre as the most important step in the landing attempt.</p>

<h2><strong>First de-boosting procedure initiated</strong></h2>

<p>On Friday, August 18,&nbsp;at around 4 PM IST, the lander module started 'deboosting'. Deboosting involves decelerating to establish an orbit where the nearest point to the Moon (Perilune) is 30 km and the farthest point (Apolune) is 100 km.</p>

Over 1000 Wildfires Wreaking Havoc In Canada 

Wildfires are a recurring phenomenon in the western provinces of Canada; however, this year an unprecedented spree has been witnessed.

The situation across Canada is dire, with a total of 1,054 active wildfires, including 230 in the Northwest Territories alone. 


Due to massive wildfires, even the sky in the North American country has turned red. 



The resulting smoke has enveloped Canada and even parts of the United States, leading to health concerns and advisories being issued, urging people to minimise outdoor exposure and consider wearing masks.

<p>“There is a culture of celebration, sharing, and belonging around meat [and] anyone cutting down on meat can feel excluded from cultural traditions,” he added.</p>

It mentioned a list of words that perpetuate gender stereotypes and must be avoided while drafting pleadings as well as in orders and judgments. Along with the unjust terms, it also released a list of alternative words which it deemed more accurate or appropriate. “The Handbook on Combating Gender Stereotypes aims to assist judges and the legal community in identifying, understanding and combating stereotypes about women. It contains a glossary of gender-unjust terms and suggests alternative words or phrases which may be used while drafting pleadings as well as orders and judgments,” Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said. 'Housewife, ladylike': India Supreme Court gives alternatives to words that stereotype women

<p>India’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday (August 16) suspended an Indian Police Service (IPS) official accused of molesting a woman at a night club.</p>

<p>IPS Dr A Koan was serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in India’s southwestern state of Goa. Last week, he was relieved of his duties and ordered to report to the state Director General of Police (DGP).</p>

<p>A statement released by the MHA on Wednesday read, “The President of India, in exercise of the powers conferred under Rule 3 of ALL India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, hereby places Dr. A. Koan, IPS (AGMUT:2009) under suspension with immediate effect.”</p>

<p>Koan is a 2009-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre.</p>

<h2><strong>What happened?</strong></h2>

<p>According to media reports, IPS officer Koan allegedly molested a woman at a night club in Goa on August 7. A CCTV footage showing the woman engaged in a heated argument with another person accompanying the IPS officer is also circulating on social media.</p>

<p>A different CCTV footage showed the IPS officer walking around in the washroom in a drunken state.</p>

<p>The GFP MLA also claimed that the accused IPS officer had a track record of “misbehaving with women.”</p>

<p>Sardesai also claimed that he can produce a video clip wherein Koan can be seen asking a staffer at a casino to “sit next to him”.</p>

<p>However, the legislator refused to share more details about the incident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that Singapore Police Force (SPF) arrested 10 foreign nationals, including three Chinese, in the crackdown and seized cash, prime properties, luxury cars and other valuable assets.</p>

<p>The authorities said Wednesday it was a well-coordinated operation involving several agencies and more than 400 personnel, including those from the Criminal Investigation Department, Commercial Affairs Department (CAD), Special Operations Command or riot police, and Police Intelligence Department.</p>

<h2><strong>What are the allegations against those arrested?</strong></h2>

<p>According to the authorities, the group is allegedly involved in laundering money earned through criminal activities overseas, such as scams and online gambling.</p>

<p>Police said another 12 are assisting the investigations while eight people were put on the most-wanted list and are currently on the run.</p>

<p>The police identified them through extensive investigations, including the analysis of suspicious transaction reports (STRs) made by financial institutions about suspicious activity, as reported by Strait Times.</p>

<h2><strong>Police in action mode</strong></h2>

<p>The police have issued a prohibition of disposal orders for 94 properties and 50 vehicles, collectively valued at over S$815 million, along with various ornaments, bottles of liquor, and wine.</p>

<p>These orders prohibit the suspects from selling the mentioned properties and vehicles as the police open an investigation.<br />

In addition, the police have seized over 35 associated bank accounts, holding an estimated total balance exceeding S$110 million, to aid investigations and prevent the transfer of suspected criminal proceeds.</p>
