<p>US tech giant <strong>Amazon </strong>is tracking and punishing employees who are not spending enough time in the office, according to an email sent to its employees by the administration earlier this week.</p>

<p>Some of the company’s staff members received a warning from Amazon on Wednesday (August 9) which said they were “not currently meeting our expectation of joining your colleagues in the office at least three days a week,” reported Financial Times.</p>

<p>A statement by Amazon clarified that the alert was sent to those employees who “have come into the office fewer than three days a week for five or more of the past eight weeks.”</p>

<p>The company acknowledged it could have alerted some of its employees by mistake and it encouraged them to report their attendance to the Human Resource team.</p>

<p>Amazon’s recent move reflects a wider trend in the US tech sector of encouraging employees to return to the office. The company tracks attendance through badge tap-ins, as done by Google.</p>

Amazon issues warning to employees not spending enough time in office

<p>US billionaire <strong>Elon Musk</strong> has shared new details about his upcoming cage fight against Meta boss <strong>Mark Zuckerberg</strong>.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Musk on Friday (August 11) took to X to announce that the fight will be managed by his and Zuckerberg’s foundations and not by UFC, the mixed martial arts (MMA) organisation.</p>

<p>He also declared that the event will be livestreamed on X and Meta. In his post, Musk wrote, “Everything in camera frame will be ancient Rome, so nothing modern at all.”</p>

<p>South Africa's former president Jacob Zuma reported back to prison on Friday only to be swiftly released, in a government move lashed by the opposition as a "monumental insult" to the public.</p>

<p>In the latest twist arising from a sentence for contempt of court, Zuma was ordered to report back to jail, arriving at 6:00 am (0400 GMT) at a detention facility in the eastern town of Estcourt, the prison service said.</p>

<p>There, he was "admitted into the system" -- only to be let go in just over an hour, under a "remission process" to ease overcrowding in prison, according to the national commissioner of correctional services, Makgothi Thobakgale.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Upon admission into the system he was subjected to administrative processes... He was then released," Thobakgale told a press conference in Pretoria.</p>

<p>Zuma, 81, was sentenced to 15 months in June 2021 after refusing to testify before a panel probing financial corruption and cronyism under his presidency.</p>

<p>He started serving his term in July 2021, sparking protests that descended into riots and looting that left more than 350 dead in the worst violence to hit South Africa since the advent of democracy.</p>

<p>But after just two months he was freed on medical parole for an undisclosed condition.</p>

<p>In November last year an appeals court found the release was illegally granted and ordered Zuma back to the Estcourt Correctional Centre in KwaZulu-Natal province.</p>

<p>South Africa's prison service, which had granted Zuma's conditional release, appealed the decision, but the bid was dismissed by the Constitutional Court last month.</p>

<h2><strong>Release</strong></h2>

<p>Thobakgale said the ex-president had been ordered to return to jail on Friday in compliance with the ruling.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But Zuma immediately benefited from a remission of non-violent offenders approved by President Cyril Ramaphosa, Justice Minister Ronald Lamola said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This decision has nothing to do (with) overcrowding, and everything to do with preventing Zuma from facing accountability for his actions," said Glynnis Breytenbach, the DA's shadow justice minister.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The precedent has been clearly set. If you are a senior ANC member, you will never be held accountable for your crimes".</p>

<p>A team at the Medical Research Institute at Kitano Hospital in Japan is going to conduct the trials. Initially, they want to target children with anodontia, a rare genetic condition which prevents the growth of teeth among babies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the next step, the researchers will target adult humans facing similar problems, and then those having regular dental issues like gum disease and growing of teeth in an abnormal way.</p>

<p>"The idea of growing new teeth is every dentist's dream," Katsu Takahashi, head of the dentistry and oral surgery department at Kitano Hospital, told The Mainichi. "I've been working on this since I was a graduate student. I was confident I'd be able to make it happen."</p>

<h2><strong>The science behind the treatment</strong></h2>

<p>Initially, scientists were able to establish a connection between a specific gene named USAG-1 and limitations on tooth growth in mice.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Subsequently, the researchers progressed to experiments aimed at blocking the expression of USAG-1.</p>

<p>They discovered an antibody that could safely block a portion of USAG-1's activity in mice, leading to tooth growth without significant adverse effects.</p>

<p>Simply put, experts have likened the fossil to a tiny mouse, who might have appeared like a modern-day shrew.</p>

<p>They weighed an estimated 11gm&nbsp;or even less. However, the study has clarified the mammal was actually not a mouse but hailed from a now-extinct family different altogether—Gypsonictopidae.</p>

<p>The ice mouse might have endured straight four months of unending darkness even as temperatures fell way below the freezing point.</p>
