Here are five facts related to monkeypox that you need to know:

1. Symptoms:

Monkeypox typically takes 6 to 13 days to develop, although it can take anything from 5 to 21 days or symptoms to appear. The virus is self-limiting with symptoms that last between two and four weeks. Children are more likely to experience severe cases.&nbsp;

The symptoms can be first during the invasion period (0-5 days), marked by fever, severe headache, back pain, and severe asthenia (lack of energy). The second can be, that after the onset of a fever, the skin eruption often starts one to three days later. Instead of the trunk, the rash is more frequently found on the face and limbs. In nearly 95 per cent of the instances, it affects the palms of the hands and soles of the feet with the face.&nbsp;

In general, the case fatality ratio of monkeypox has traditionally fluctuated from 0 to 11 per cent; higher in young children. The case fatality rate recently has been between 3 and 6 per cent, WHO reported.&nbsp;

 
2.&nbsp;Vaccination:

Several observational studies have shown that smallpox vaccination is almost 85 per cent effective in preventing monkeypox.

Smallpox vaccinations cidofovir, ST-246, and vaccina immune globulin can be used to help in treating the virus.

However, in 2019 a brand newer vaccine based on the Ankara strain of the modified attenuated vaccinia virus was authorised for the prevention of monkeypox. This is a two-dose vaccine that is still only partially available.

The instructions a persons need to follow include avoiding getting in touch with anyone who has a rash that resembles monkeypox, never touching a person infected with monkeypox, sharing utensils with someone who has monkeypox, using an alcohol-based hand sanitiser, or often washing your hands with soap and water.

CDC also issued preventive guidelines for people who have monkeypox: Stay alone at home or stay in a separate room or area from people and pets you live with.

The virus currently does not have any specific treatment. Typically, patients must stay in a specialised hospital to prevent infection from spreading and to manage general symptoms.&nbsp;

4.&nbsp;Monkeypox instances have begun to be reported in various nations such as Singapore, and South Korea.

Worldwide, more than 16,000 cases of the virus have been documented in 75 countries, as per the WHO director-general Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.&nbsp;

Israeli troops kill two Palestinian fighters during clash in West Bank

After testing more than 300K samples in the last 24 hours, India recorded 20,279 new COVID-19 cases, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated on Sunday (July 24). As per the ministry, the country reported 21,411 on the previous day. Officials said there have been 18,143 recoveries in the country in the past day. The ministry said that India has reportedly performed more than 870 million tests to date. The current active rate for cases lies at 0.35 per cent.&nbsp;India’s active caseload stands at 1,52,200 while the positivity rate is 5.29 and the weekly positivity rate is at 4.46 per cent, ANI reported.

According to the Union ministry, nearly 2.8 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine&nbsp;were given as part of the nationwide vaccination drive in the last 24 hours. As per the official data, nearly 70 million unused vaccine doses are available to the States and Union Territories.&nbsp; The Covid immunisation campaign began on January 16, 2021. Another phase of the vaccination programme began on June 21, 2021.

The central government has been assisting the States and UTs by giving them free Covid vaccines as a part of its national vaccination push. The government purchases vaccines produced by the country’s vaccine manufacturers and provides them to states and UTs for free as a part of the vaccine campaign.

As per the ministry, the country reported 21,411 on the previous day. Officials said there have been 18,143 recoveries in the country in the past day. The ministry said that India has reportedly performed more than 870 million tests to date. The current active rate for cases lies at 0.35 per cent. India’s active caseload stands at 1,52,200 while the positivity rate is 5.29 and the weekly positivity rate is at 4.46 per cent, ANI reported. According to the Union ministry, nearly 2.8 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine were given as part of the nationwide vaccination drive in the last 24 hours. As per the official data, nearly 70 million unused vaccine doses are available to the States and Union Territories. The Covid immunisation campaign began on January 16, 2021. Another phase of the vaccination programme began on June 21, 2021. An An was kept away from visitors due to his health deteriorating and he began experiencing high blood pressure, a disease typical of senior pandas.&nbsp;

The Chinese government gave the world’s giant panda, Jia Jia, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 38, and An An as gifts. Both the panda’s care allowed Ocean Park to establish itself as a key hub for panda conservation as per the park, which expressed its gratitude for the chance it got.&nbsp;

As per the White House officials, the administration includes financing for programme that aids local communities to improve flood control, strengthen utilities, and adapt buildings as well as aid low-income households with heating and cooling expenses.

As per recent court documents, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook parent firm Meta, will take a six-hour deposition about Meta’s handling of user data in relation to the Cambridge Analytica crisis. This deposition is related to a lawsuit brought in a California court by Facebook users who were harmed by the social media site’s collaboration with Cambridge Analytica. A consultancy accused collaborated with the Donald Trump campaign team and was able to acquire the personal information of 50 million Facebook users, which was then used to create voter profiles. The business was also involved in UK’s 2016 Brexit vote, The Guardian reported. As per the documents, additional witnesses, including platform partnership executive Konstantinos Papamiltiadis, former director of product management Eddie O’Neil, and Facebook privacy officer Rob Sherman.
