The US technology giant, Microsoft on Tuesday said that its earnings for the recent quarter fell short of expectations as the sales of personal computers suffered due to low demand and supply delays from China. The tech firm beat market expectations with a $16.7 billion profit on $51.9 billion in revenue but fell short of the same quarter year earlier. As per the firm its sales were harmed by the high US currency which made its products more expensive in overseas markets. Prior to a pandemic, the personal computer market had been steadily declining as more people switched to smartphones and tablets, AFP reported.

Dan Ives, a Wedbush analyst in a note to investors said that the decline in earnings was mostly caused due to fluctuating currency exchange rates and the closure of personal computer manufacturing in China. Ives states, “The most important core business; cloud and commercial bookings were relatively rock solid despite fears.” He further added, “The core DNA of the Microsoft growth story is cloud and core Azure growth which was healthy this quarter and appears to have momentum into 2023 despite economic headwinds."

Chief financial officer at the firm Amy Hood said, “In a dynamic environment we saw strong demand, took share, and increased customer commitment to our cloud platform.”

However, the earnings report stated that the firm lost $300 million in income that would have been generated from Windows operating systems purchased to power the machines due to production shut-in in China and declining demand.&nbsp;

The regulations include changing the smoking age to prevent teenagers from buying cigarettes. In an effort to avoid stigmatising patients who could delay seeking care, New York City has requested the World Health Organization (WHO) to rename the monkeypox virus on Tuesday (July 26). In a letter to WHO Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, New York City public health commissioner Ashwin Vasan stated, “We have a growing concern for the potentially devastating and stigmatizing effects that the messaging around the 'monkeypox' virus can have on... already vulnerable communities.” Vasan further stated in his letter that the WHO had suggested changing the name of the virus, connected to smallpox, during a press conference last month, AFP reported.

Currently, with 1,092 infections discovered so far, New York has more cases of the illness than any other city in the US. So far, no deaths have been reported in Europe or the United States.

In the video uploaded on Instagram, Miller-Whitehead said that the assailants held a gun to the face of his young daughter while robbing his wife’s jewellery and ripping off his chain. As per the investigators, no one in the family got suffered any harm.&nbsp;

A state appellate court in New York has ruled that Sotheby’s may be responsible for $4 million for missing diamonds after the auction house was accused of giving them to ‘a stranger’ in a lawsuit. The diamonds were allegedly handed to Sotheby’s for appraisal in April 2019, and M&amp;L Financial was exploring a future consignment, as per the lawsuit filed by M&amp;L Financial. A few months later, M&amp;L said that Sotheby’s allegedly informed the business that it had given the diamonds to a representative of the organisation that loans the gems from M&amp;L as collateral. Since then, the jewels have vanished, CNN reported.

The diamonds had been owned by Jona Rechnitz, a well-known political fundraiser in New York and Hollywood, who operates Jadelle Jewelry and Diamonds of Beverly Hills. As per the lawsuit, Rechnitz delivered the stones to M&amp;L because he owed the company a huge debt. Furthermore, Sotheby’s said that Rechnitz informed the auctioneer that an agent was coming to collect the diamonds. The agent then arrived at Sotheby’s to take up the jewelry.&nbsp;

In 2020, a lawsuit was filed by M&amp;L against Sotheby’s, claiming that the diamonds shouldn’t have been given to a representative. The business also claimed that Rechnitz had recommended Sotheby’s and later found that Rechnitz was friends with Quin Bruning, the auctioneer’s jewellery specialist.&nbsp;

Initially, a lower court determined that Sotheby’s was right to give the items to a representative since Jadelle was mentioned as a co-consignor along with M&amp;L Financial on the contract. However, the California Court of Appeals dissented on July 14 and allowed M&amp;L to proceed with the breach of contract lawsuit against Sotheby’s.

The Court of California Appeals said that “There was no agreement yet that Sotheby's definitely would auction the diamonds for M&amp;L, but a potential auction was the point of Sotheby's involvement. Sotheby's breached this agreement by giving the diamonds to [a] stranger,” CNN reported.

However, Sotheby’s in a statement said, “regards the allegations in the complaint as baseless and riddled with untruths and mischaracterizations. We will continue to vigorously defend this in court."

The Delhi government requested the district and other concerned officials to follow the Centre’s guidelines on the management of the infection. These guidelines also state that required arrangements from the airport to the hospitals need to be established or reinforced.

As per the sources, the isolation unit at LNJP Hospital, which has a dedicated 20-member staff to care for such patients, will be deployed to travellers at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, exhibiting signs including all the symptoms of monkeypox. They further said that the district administration would confine the family members and do contact tracing while sending the samples of the suspected patients to the National Institute of Virology, Pune.&nbsp;
