The minister further stated that "based on the field assessment report, a pilot project 'Medicine from the Sky’ is being rolled out on the occasion of Independence Day from Seppa, East Kameng district. As part of ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, happy to have virtually launched the pilot project," ANI reported.

The chief minister added that the USAID-funded and Redwings Labs-executed pilot project would clearly illustrate technical challenges, financial viability, and regulatory problems so that the government can develop a policy and take action steps towards accepting this new form of technology. He also shared a video of the drone’s first flight on Twitter.

Similarly, the minister of civil aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia, in May predicted that with the PM’s vision, India would soon witness new businesses adopting drone services, making the country the&nbsp;world’s drone hub. The aviation minister, in his speech at the inaugural ceremony, said, "It is the resolve of PM Modi to make India the International Drone Hub leader by 2030. We have to lead the world in this field. Our Ministry is working along with NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant," ANI reported.

With the help of the government of India and efforts from drone stakeholders, the drone industry is expected to grow exponentially.

Indian Army finds mortal remains of soldier who went missing during ‘Meghdoot Operation’ in 1984

It is almost time for Pakistan's government to choose the next army chief. A senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader hinted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif could start talking about the appointment by the end of August and possibly make a decision by mid-September.

It is customary for the General Headquarters or GHQ to send to the defence ministry a list of four to five senior-most lieutenant-generals, along with their profiles, so that the prime minister can choose the best candidate for the position.

Lt-Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza, one of the senior-most among the four candidates, is the undisputed front-runner for any of the two positions of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), Dawn newspaper quoted a military source as saying. Mirza is a native of the Sindh Regiment. He had a distinguished army career, especially over the last few years in high command roles.

PML-N leaders stated that they had essentially chosen to make the appointment based on seniority. However, another faction believes that the PM may just follow the incumbent leader’s recommendations.

Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, the current COAS is all set to retire in November. The army chief's tenure is meant for three years but Bajwa was given an additional three-year term in 2019. However, the general still qualifies for another term. There is a possibility that the incumbent might be interested in or looking for another extension. But as per a military source close to Bajwa, he informed those close to him that he would retire in November, the newspaper reported.

Among the current senior brass, Lt. Gen. Azhar Abbas has the most experience in Indian affairs. He belongs to the Baloch regiment. Currently serving as the Chief of General Staff (CGS), he leads the army and has direct control over the intelligence and operations directorates, Dawn reported. He had previously commanded Rawalpindi-based X Corps and is Kashmir-centric, demonstrating the army’s entire confidence in him.

Lt Gen Faiz Hamid, a member of the Baloch Regiment, is another of the most talked-about candidates for the top job. He was a centre of a dispute between former PM Imran Khan and the COAS in the final stages, where the latter had chosen him for the post of commander of the Peshawar Corps and the former wasn’t ready to remove him. According to analysts cited by Dawn, PML-N leaders may find it impossible or challenging to consider him for the position of COAS.

Another candidate, Lt. Gen. Mohammed Amir, is a member of the Artillery Regiment, and currently in charge of the XXX corps in Gujranwala. He was formerly the GHQ’s adjutant general. He has extensive experience in both GHQ and command roles, having also held the position of director-general of Staff Duties at the COAS secretariat. According to Dawn, his professional path has put him in close proximity to the current political decision-makers.

Raging wildfires might push Europe towards record-breaking destruction, says experts

Authorities in Berwick, Pennsylvania reported that a car struck a crowd of people on Saturday, resulting in one fatality and 17 others injured. The guy is suspected of attacking a woman in the neighbourhood after the incident, State Trooper Anthony Petroski said, NCB news reported.

Earlier, in the August 2020 lawsuit, the Sierra Club, Centre for Biological Diversity, and other parties claimed that the BLM violated the National Policy Act when the government approved its 20-year plan before taking a close look at the environmental aspects.

The groups further claimed that allowing leasing on certain lands would worsen the climate catastrophe and that later it'd be impossible to deal with its effects. Additionally, the groups also said that the government had not given enough thought to leasing and its effects.

The environmental organisations claim that BLM’s plan threatens the local way of life revolving around small-scale family farms, wineries, and leisure, and wildlife activities.

A representative for the environmental organisation in conversation with Reuters said, "It's absolutely crazy for the BLM to be considering a management plan that opens up 95 per cent of the available mineral estate in the area ... without really confronting the issue of where we are in the climate crisis."

The Gunnison sage-grouse, a huge bird with a small head and chunky body, is one of the least two endangered species that have prompted legal disputes over oil and gas production in the American West in the past.

There have been important legal triumphs made by the conservation groups in prior cases when they claimed that leasing endangered the birds.
