A Hindu man&nbsp;in Hyderabad, Pakistan was purportedly booked&nbsp;in a false blasphemy case on Sunday (August 21), over a clash with a local resident, according to multiple media reports. The man, identified as Ashok Kumar, a sweeper, was violently assaulted by a hostile mob. After a fight with shopkeeper Bilal Abbasi, he filed a complaint against Kumar.

The frenzied mob, calling for the Hindu workers’ surrender for desecrating the Quran, was dispersed by the Hyderabad police, ANI reported.

According to a local media report, a Muslim woman was actually the one who burnt the Islamist book.

As per reports, the problem of unverified and speculative claims of ‘blasphemy’ has increased in lynchings and extrajudicial executions in the South Asian country.

White House officials recently cited that Chinese President Xi Jinping, in a telephone conversation with US President Joe Biden last month, has asked to prevent Nancy Pelosi, the US House Speaker, from visiting Taiwan. However, the US President, in response, said that he ‘could not oblige’ and that it was the speaker’s own choice to decide on her overseas visits as the US Congress is an independent government branch, The Washington Post reported.

Additionally, Biden also warned his counterpart against using provocative and coercive tactics during Pelosi’s visit. National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said, "Members of Congress have gone to Taiwan for decades and will continue to do so. Speaker Pelosi had every right to go, and her visit is consistent with our long-standing One-China policy," the newspaper quoted. However, since 1997, no US House Speaker had&nbsp;visited Taiwan until Pelosi at the beginning of August this year.

China denounced Pelosi’s visit and began its extensive military drills close to the island. The ambassador said, "Incumbent upon the government here in Beijing to convince the rest of the world that it will act peacefully in the future." He added, "I think there's a lot of concern around the world that China has now become an agent of instability in the Taiwan Strait and that's not in anyone's interest," ANI reported.

Hutchison Ports, the owner stated that it thought their offer to increase a 7 per cent wage increase and a lump sum payment of 500 pounds was reasonable enough. However, the port further stated that this offer was accepted by the 500 workers there but the United said that this amount is far below the current inflation rate.

The Hutchison port further stated that it was aiming to minimise inconvenience during the walkouts, which will span until August 29, and that it will soon have a backup plan in place.

Hind Omar, a business graduate, and mother of two, rushed to apply to be a train driver. She said, "I have several thousand lives in my hands every day." The 30-year-old woman, proudly wearing her neon jacket and her black and white hijab, said that her family has always been supportive.

Omar further claimed that the tests for women aspiring to be train drivers had been difficult and required the applicants to exhibit their ‘attention span’ and ‘endurance.’ She further claimed that women need to be watchful for long hours during the six-day working week.

Another woman qualified to be train driver,&nbsp;Suzanne Mohammed, 32, recounted reaction on initially seen sitting on the driver’s seat by the passengers on the platform.

Nancy Davis, 36, a pregnant Louisiana woman, is faced with the decision of carrying a skull-less child to term or travelling to another state for an abortion. Davis has retained an attorney as she becomes the most recent personification of the agonising choices some women are facing in the wake of the US Supreme Court's decision to abolish universal access to abortion in June. With very few exceptions, most states have prohibited abortion, including Davis’s native state.

Davis, after a 10-week scan, revealed that the foetus was missing the top of its skull, acrania, a condition which generally kills within minutes or hours of delivery. Davis admitted publicly aborting her child. The hospital treating Davis refused to end her pregnancy as acrania was not listed on Louisiana’s list of ailments requiring an exception for abortion.

Davis’s lawyer, Ben Crump, claimed that Louisiana’s abortion prohibition was difficult to understand and had unfavourable effects. He also claimed that it caused emotional and physical damage to his client and other women in Davis’s position. Davis will be travelling to Florida, where she'll be exempt from the state’s ban to give birth to her second child, who’ll eventually die.

‘I’m carrying it to bury it': Louisiana woman to make tough decision over her skull-less foetus abortion

The Democrats Department of Education`s decision to cancel $3.9 billion in student loan debt associated with ITT Technical Institute, a private, for-profit educational chain that went bankrupt six years ago is a clear signal to the students that it has conceded their demands and cares. The department will automatically cancel all loans for students who attended ITT from January 2005 to September 2016, affecting roughly 208,000 borrowers. 
 
The debt forgiveness comes atop Biden`s signing into law the historic climate change, health care, and inflation reduction besides the semiconductor bill and a slew of other measures aimed at improving the general welfare of the Americans, especially the poor, urban middle class families with low drug prices, tax incentives and creating more jobs.

Before declaring bankruptcy, ITT had been under investigation for a variety of deceptive practices. "The evidence shows that for years, ITT`s leaders intentionally misled students about the quality of their programs in order to profit off federal student loan programs, with no regard for the hardship this would cause," Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a statement Tuesday. 
 
Cardona also said that the Biden administration would "continue to stand up for borrowers who`ve been cheated by their colleges, while working to strengthen oversight and enforcement to protect today`s students from similar deception and abuse." Including this most recent announcement, the Biden administration has forgiven nearly $32 billion in student loans. 
 
Even as Budget hawks lobby against broad debt forgiveness, the Biden administration is currently considering what to do about the nation`s $1.5 trillion student loan portfolio, payments on which were suspended repeatedly during the Covid-19 crisis. 
 
Though the most recent extension of the suspension expires at the end of August, many analysts expect the administration to extend the pause again, at least through the end of the year, according to multiple reports in the US media. 
 
Equally, some student loan activists have been calling on the White House to forgive student loan debt, in full or in part, with forgiveness of $10,000 per borrower being one frequently cited option.

On Tuesday, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a fiscally conservative group that generally opposes student debt forgiveness, published an analysis of the cost of doing so. 
 
Extending the payment pause for the rest of the year would cost $20 billion, CRFB estimated. And cancelling $10,000 in debt for middle- and low-income borrowers (defined as earning less than $300,000 per year) would cost $230 billion over 10 years. 
 
The CRFB analysts note that the cost would wipe out much of the budgetary savings provided by the climate and health bill signed into law by President Biden on Tuesday. "Combined, these policies would consume nearly ten years of deficit reduction from the Inflation Reduction Act," CRFB said.

Using statistical modelling, an international team has generated the world’s first dataset on bicycle ownership. Bicycle production increased faster than car production between 1962 and 2015, with China accounting for more than two-thirds of the 123 million bikes produced in 2015.

Some of the girls in Ethiopian Girl Skaters, an all-female group founded by Sosina Challa and Micky Asfaw, have girls as young as six years old in the group. They regularly practise mastering the sport. While some carefully advance a few metres while holding their friends’ hands for support, others sprint across ramps and concrete humps.

Challa, in conversation with AFP, said that she founded the group in order to empower young and passionate women who find it difficult to participate in extreme sports due to Ethiopia’s view of girls, to say some, and help their parents. She further stated that since the time group was founded in December 2020, she, along with other mentors, has taught skateboarding to nearly 150 girls.

Another skateboarder named Hanas, a 22-year-old girl, said that it’s not common for girls in the country to start skateboarding because not many people support the idea. She said, "But somebody had to be the first, some group had to start and we were the first one and I feel honoured to be part of that."

Iman Mahmud, after 18 months of training, said that she no longer cares about what other people think about her being a girl and taking part in such sports activities. She said, "It helped me defeat my fears. I just enjoy it. It makes me happy."&nbsp;
