After attracting widespread criticism and concerns raised by Afghan women over the new rule to limit the entry of women in parks, the Taliban on Monday clarified that the imposition of the new rule to separate the visiting days for men and women is to allow women to visit the parks freely.

Taliban's Ministry of Vice and Virtue spokesman, Mohammad Akif Mahajar at a press conference, said that at the public parks the visiting days for men and women have been separated in order for women to visit the parks freely, TOLO News reported.

According to local media, the Taliban recently imposed new restrictions on Afghan women and girls in Herat province. They are not allowed to move freely in public parks; including those specially designated for women; but only on specified days, and family sections in restaurants are closed down by law; however, most citizens didn`t heed that restriction.

A 22-year-old girl, Rehana Ahmadian said that they used to go to the park to take a stroll as her mother had high blood cholesterol based on a doctor`s advice but ever since the Taliban came to power, they warned us not to leave homes without a male guardian; we lost all independence compared to the former government despite women`s parks are separate from men`s.

"Taliban have nothing else to do but suppress women since coming into power, and they have imprisoned us all women at home,"Asila Misbah, a women`s rights activist based in Herat said.

"I used to eat food in restaurants with my family most of the time, but now due to Taliban restrictions on women, I can`t spend an hour with my family outside. Everything we do is in an uncertain manner and we fear retribution even though we tread carefully," she added.

Similarly, in Zabul province, the Taliban have recently threatened men not to allow women to attend wedding ceremonies.

The erosion of women`s rights has been one of the most notable aspects of the de facto administration to date. Before the Taliban came to power, women and girls had progressively had their rights to fully participate in education, the workplace, and other aspects of public and daily life.

It has been a year since the Taliban deprived Afghan women of education, work, and public life. This is while former president of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, recently claimed that Afghan girls were prohibited from school by order of Pakistan.

Taliban official has said that the schools for female students are closed for religious issues and that there is a need for agreement of Islamic scholars on this matter and that opposing the decision of the Islamic clerics regarding the schools will have negative consequences.

The United States on Monday condemned the targeted killing of civilians, saying it stands against such practices, whether they occur in Ukraine or Russia.

The reason behind the targeted killing by Russia is the killing of Darya Dugina, daughter of a close adviser to the Russian president, in a car bomb blast on Saturday night.

British Airways on Monday announced that it will cut back on the number of flights scheduled at London’s busiest airport, Heathrow, over the winter as the aviation industry continues to experience staffing challenges in the face of a surge in demand for travel worldwide.

The United Arab Emirates said Sunday that its ambassador to Tehran would resume duties within days, six years after ties were downgraded in support of Saudi Arabia.

Ambassador Saif Mohammed al-Zaabi "will resume his duties at the&nbsp;UAE&nbsp;embassy in the Islamic republic of Iran in the coming days to contribute to further advancing bilateral relations", the Emirati foreign ministry said in a statement.

The move seeks to "achieve the common interests of the two countries and the wider region", it added.

With Middle East political alignments shifting,&nbsp;UAE&nbsp;presidential adviser Anwar Gargash in mid-July called for an easing of regional tensions and signalled the ambassador's possible return.

To reduce losses, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), a state-owned fuel distributor in Sri Lanka, increased the price of kerosene as of Sunday midnight. The CPC declared in a statement that a litre of kerosene will now cost 253 Sri Lankan rupees (SLR), or 0.7 US dollars, Xinhua reported.

Many unprivileged groups consume kerosene, which was formerly sold at a discounted price of 87 rupees.

Speaking in the Sri Lankan parliament, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijeskera announced plans to increase the cost of kerosene while providing low-income families with a subsidy. The minister claimed that it costs 421 rupees to generate one litre of kerosene.

Nia Morish, the lead author of the study, said, "Given the persisting and potentially scarring effects of both loneliness and unemployment on health and the economy, prevention of both experiences is key. Decreased loneliness could mitigate unemployment, and employment abate loneliness, which may, in turn, relate positively to other factors including health and quality of life," ANI reported.

Morish further added that in order to promote health and wellness, it is important to pay special attention to loneliness and provide employers with additional support. The lead author further added that after the COVID-19 pandemic started, people started working from home and many felt isolated, which increased the need to focus on people’s health and wellbeing.

We need to explore this further, and it could lay the foundations for employers or policymakers to tackle loneliness with a view to keeping more people in work," ANI reported.

This is the first study that identifies those lonely people of any working age who are at greater risk of becoming unemployed or jobless.

The Breton National Wildlife Refuge’s wildlife experts have found more than 53 turtles and two live hatchlings that were moving toward the sea, as per a press release issued by Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority.

Wildlife specialists have also found the endangered loggerhead sea turtle nesting on the islands, in addition to Kemp’s ridley. June to July are the busiest months for sea turtle nesting, and most hatchlings merge in 50 to 60 days.

The fact that the hatchlings were Kemp’s ridley sea turtles, an endangered species, happens to be the tiniest sea turtle in the world. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration claim that the Gulf is where you can mostly find turtles.

World’s smallest sea turtles discovered on Chandeleur Islands after 75 years

Researchers at Cambridge University have created artificial leaves that float on water and produce clean fuel. The ultra-thin, lightweight, and flexible device produces a carbon-neutral fuel using solar technology that imitates photosynthesis and turns sunlight into food.

The device converts sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water into liquid fuel that can be stored while floating. Unlike normal solar cells, which produce an electrical current, this does not.

The leaves underwent several successful tests on the river Cam, demonstrating that they could now transform sunlight into fuel "as efficiently as plant leaves." This method will also help to decrease the dependency of the world’s shipping industry on fossil fuels.

Virgil Andrei, a researcher, said, "Solar farms have become popular for electricity production; we envision similar farms for fuel synthesis," The Times UK reported.

She further said that farms can provide water to remote islands, coastal towns, and industrial ponds and even cover irrigation canals to prevent water evaporation.

She said, "This study demonstrates that artificial leaves are compatible with modern fabrication techniques, representing an early step towards the automation and up-scaling of solar fuel production."

The leaves function when water and CO2 are available and sunlight reaches a panel covered in semiconductor powder. As a result of light absorption, the panel’s electrons are simulated, which allows them to combine with CO2.

Another researcher, Erwin Reisner, is optimistic that this technology will revolutionise the maritime sector, where cargo ships propelled by fossil fuels transport 80 per cent of the world’s trade.

The team’s aim was to reduce the size of their original design by affixing light absorbers to thin substrates that are impervious to water penetration. The researchers created a micrometre-thin, water-repellent carbon-based coating on top of thin-film metal oxides and perovskites, which can be coated in flexible plastic and metal foils to avoid moisture degradation.

These artificial leaves need more development before they can be used commercially, including developing a mechanism to extract the fuel from the leaf.
