Nashville shooting: School battleground in spotlight as police release dramatic bodycam video

The British government on Tuesday (March 28) increased its terrorism threat level in Northern Ireland from "substantial" to "severe" after a risk assessment by the spy agency MI5. Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Heaton-Harris noted that the analysis by the intelligence agency means that an incident is judged "highly likely".

The public should "remain vigilant" but not be "alarmed", said Heaton-Harris in a written statement to the members of the parliament after the risk assessment.

The threat level has been increased by the intelligence agency in the aftermath of the Omagh police shooting when a senior police officer John Caldwell was shot by masked gunmen in County Tyrone. UK-based media reports have claimed that the detective chief inspector is in hospital and is believed to be in a critical but stable condition.

"These attacks have no support, as demonstrated by the reaction to the abhorrent attempted murder of DCI Caldwell," the statement further added.

United States officials on Tuesday (March 28) charged former FTX chief Sam Bankman-Fried over authorising bribes of at least $40 million to Chinese officials.

The charge was added to 12 counts already faced by the former FTX chief. The 13th criminal charge against him is for "conspiracy to violate the anti-bribery provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act."

Belarus said on Tuesday (March 28) that it was forced to host Russian nuclear weapons after the "unprecedented" pressure from the NATO nations and the West. Belarus said on Tuesday (March 28) that it was forced to host Russian nuclear weapons after the "unprecedented" pressure from the NATO nations and the West. The staunch Russian ally further insisted that their deployment did not violate international agreements. Belarus accused the United States and its allies of putting pressure with the aim of changing its political and geopolitical direction. Putin recently talked about tactical nuclear weapons in a televised interview, saying that Russia would deploy the weapons "without violating our international agreements on nuclear non-proliferation". Putin had mentioned that he spoke to his Belarusian ally Alexander Lukashenko and that they had "agreed to do the same". As quoted by news agencies, the Belarusian foreign ministry in Minsk said it "is forced to respond to strengthen its own security and defence capability." It said, "Over the last two and a half years, the Republic of Belarus has been subjected to unprecedented political, economic and information pressure from the United States, the United Kingdom and its NATO allies, as well as the member states of the European Union." "In view of these circumstances, and the legitimate concerns and risks in the sphere of national security arising from them, Belarus is forced to respond by strengthening its own security and defence capabilities," it further added. At least 16 dead in Ecuador landslide caused by heavy rains

Jack Ma, the co-founder and former executive chairman of Alibaba Group, was spotted in Hangzhou, the capital of China's Zhejiang province, news agency Reuters reported on Monday (March 27). He visited a school he founded in the city of Hangzhou.

The South China Morning Post, which is owned by Alibaba, confirmed the news after a buzz on Chinese social media over Ma's return. The media outlet further reported that Ma met teachers and students at Hangzhou Yungu School. As quoted by the report, sources familiar with Ma's schedule divulged details.

After he criticised the Chinese regulators in 2020, the business magnate was more or less not seen in public during Beijing's rampant crackdown on the country's technology sector. The Chinese regime targeted powerful businessmen, and Ma also ran into trouble with the authorities over violating anti-monopoly regulations.

Reports last year emerged that Ma lived with his family in Tokyo for about six months. He was also spotted in some countries, like Spain and the Netherlands. But his exact whereabouts were not known.
