UK: Liam Conlon, son of partygate investigator, announces bid to be Labour MP

Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has said that the country must consider terrorism as serious when it impacts other countries, otherwise, the nation will lose its credibility. He said that New Delhi takes a strong position on terrorism because "we are big victims of terrorism".&nbsp;

"Today, a good government and strong governance stand up for its people. Just as good governance is necessary at home, right judgements are necessary abroad," he said while speaking at a Town hall in Bhopal on Oct 28.&nbsp;

The foreign minister said that India "will have no credibility if we say that when terrorism impacts us, it's very serious; when it happens to somebody else, it's not serious".

His comments came amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, which has escalated tensions across West Asia, with fears of spillover in the region. He didn't directly mention the Israel war, but his remarks&nbsp;can be seen as a veiled reference to it.&nbsp;&nbsp;

India hasn't officially designated Hamas as a terrorist organisation, unlike several Western nations, but Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi labelled the Oct 7 assault as "terrorist attacks".&nbsp;

Jaishankar's remarks came at a time when New Delhi abstained from a UN resolution that did not condemn Hamas terror attacks. He also said that India needs to take a "consistent position" on terrorism.&nbsp;

A total of 14 were against it and there were 45 abstentions. The 45 nations that abstained from voting on the resolution included Iceland, India, Panama, Lithuania and Greece.&nbsp;

<h2>Jaishankar on India's image globally</h2>

Jaishankar also talked about how India's image has changed across the globe. He said, "So, how do you have a government that stands for what is necessary and in the best interest of its people?"

He said, "A strong government and good government are two sides of one coin. In the last few decades, India's image in the world has changed a lot. We made, 'Made in India'...'Invent in India' vaccine, we had a COWIN platform as well."&nbsp;

India needs to take a 'consistent position' on terrorism, says Jaishankar

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on Sunday (Oct 29) that <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/israel-hamas-war-live-northern-gaza-under-fire-as-step-up-ground-incursion-652829">Israel has "crossed the red lines" in Gaza</a>, which "may force everyone to take action".&nbsp;

Meanwhile, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan warned of an "elevated risk" of spillover in West Asia.&nbsp;

Both remarks hint at a bleak future for the region, with civilian casualties continuing to mount in the ongoing war which started after Hamas launched surprise attacks, which according to Israeli officials killed over 1,400 people, as per the health officials.&nbsp;

Israel launched air strikes across the Gaza Strip and waged a war calling it a retaliatory action, and vowing to destroy Hamas completely.&nbsp;

<h2>Jordan asked US to deploy Patriot air defence missiles&nbsp;</h2>

Jordan, which is a staunch US ally, asked Washington to deploy Patriot air defence systems to bolster its border defence at a time of heightened regional tensions and conflict.&nbsp;

Brigadier General Mustafa Hiyari, Jordan's army spokesperson, told state television on Sunday: "We asked the American side to help bolster our defence system with Patriot air defence missile systems."&nbsp;

US Patriot missiles were stationed in the kingdom in 2013 following an uprising in its northern neighbour Syria where the kingdom feared a civil war could spill over and ignite a regional conflict. They are considered one of the most advanced US air defence systems. The system is usually in short supply, and the allies across the world are asking for it.&nbsp;

Officials have said that Jordan has been increasingly nervous that Israel's relentless bombing of Gaza since a deadly assault on Israel by Hamas on Oct 7 could also spread into a wider conflagration.&nbsp;

Israel carries out strikes on military infrastructure inside Syria, releases footage

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the regular bail pleas of former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in corruption and money-laundering cases related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.&nbsp;

A bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice SVN Bhatti said it has recorded the statements of the probe agencies that the trial in these cases will conclude in six to eight months.&nbsp;

But if the trial proceeds in a "sloppy manner", then Sisodia will be at liberty to apply for bail in these cases in three months, the bench said.&nbsp;

The top court pronounced its verdict on Sisodia's two separate regular bail pleas filed in corruption and money-laundering cases related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. It had on Oct 17 reserved its verdict on both the pleas.&nbsp;

Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Feb 26 for his alleged role in the "scam". The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader has been in custody since then.&nbsp;

The ED arrested Sisodia in a money-laundering case stemming from the CBI FIR on March 9 after questioning him in Tihar jail. Sisodia resigned from the Delhi cabinet on Feb 28.&nbsp;

The high court denied him bail in the CBI case on May 30, saying having been the deputy chief minister and excise minister, he is a "high-profile" person who has the potential to influence the witnesses.&nbsp;

On July 3, the high court declined him bail in the money-laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in the city government's excise policy, holding that the charges against him are "very serious in nature".&nbsp;

The Delhi government had implemented the policy on November 17, 2021, but scrapped it at the end of September 2022 amid allegations of corruption. According to the investigating agencies, the profit margins of wholesalers were increased from 5 per cent to 12 per cent under the new policy.&nbsp;

The agencies have alleged that the new policy resulted in cartelisation and those ineligible for liquor licences were favoured for monetary benefits. However, the Delhi government and Sisodia have denied any wrongdoing and said the new policy would have led to an increase in Delhi's revenue share.&nbsp;

Do Winnie the Pooh characters show signs of psychological disorders?

With an orange buttercream and white chocolate ghost topping, it will go down a treat at a Halloween party.

The Canadian Medical Association published a study in 2000, titled 'Pathology in the Hundred Acre Wood: A neurodevelopmental perspective on A.A. Milne', reviewed the characters and offered conclusions.

Winnie the Pooh: As per the study, Pooh represents an eating disorder. Pooh also suffered from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Christopher Robinson: He represents schizophrenia as he spends his time talking to animals. The study also points out the "obvious problem of a complete absence of parental supervision".

Piglet: He has an anxiety disorder. He is always anxious, blushing, flustered. According to the study, he clearly suffers from a Generalised Anxiety Disorder.

Tigger: He also has ADHD. He has a recurrent pattern of risk-taking behaviours. "Look, for example, at his impulsive sampling of unknown substances when he first comes to the Hundred Acre Wood," the study read.

Eeyore: He represents major depressive disorder. The donkey is always sad and low energy. The study noted that they "do not have sufficient history to diagnose this as an inherited, endogenous depression or to know whether some early trauma contributed to his chronic negativism".

Rabbit: He has obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He needs to be extraordinarily self-important and has his odd belief system that he has a "great many relations and friends".

Owl: He represents narcissistic personality disorder. The study says that he is bright but dyslexic. He tries to cover up for his phonological deficits, which is common behaviour.

Female chimps in an East African forest go through menopause and then live for years, if not decades, after being biologically incapable of reproducing. This is a significant finding as previously, the only known species in which females live long after they stop being able to reproduce are humans and some whales. A new article published on Thursday (Oct 26) in the journal Science argues that chimps should be added to the list too. The paper titled, "Demographic and hormonal evidence for menopause in wild chimpanzees", provided insights into the evolutionary imperatives underlying menopause in women. Also read: Roosters can recognise themselves in mirror. Here's why it matters A senior author Kevin Langergraber of Arizona State University told AFP: "Chimpanzees have been studied in the wild for a long time, and you might think there's nothing left to learn about them. I think this research shows us that's not true." The study mentioned that the vast majority of mammal females produce offspring till the end of their lives, but around the age of 50, humans experience a reduction in reproductive hormones and the permanent loss of ovarian function. Notably, females of five species of toothed whale, including orcas and narwhals, similarly survive well beyond fertile age. It isn't obvious why natural selection would favour this trait, and only among a handful of species. The authors said that data from our closest primate relatives is extremely useful for reconstructing and modelling human life history evolution. The researchers have combined demographic and hormonal data to calculate a metric called the post-reproductive representation (PrR), which is the average proportion of the adult life span that is spent in a post-reproductive state. Also read: Scientists unveil recreation of 500-year old sacrificial Incan girl in Peru To carry out the study, the authors said they examined the mortality and fertility rates of 185 female chimpanzees in the Ngogo community of wild chimpanzees in Kibale National Park, Uganda, from 21 years of observation (1995–2016). As in other chimpanzee populations and humans, fertility declined after age 30, and no births were observed after age 50. It was not unusual for Ngogo females to live past the age of 50 (N = 16 females). The authors concluded that menopause ends reproduction around the age of 50 in both humans and wild chimpanzees. Some scientists have put forward the "grandmother hypothesis" as a possible explanation: the idea that older females enter a post-reproductive state to consume fewer resources and focus on improving their grandchildren's odds of survival. However, previous research has not discovered a significant proportion of wild female chimps in a post-reproductive stage. Some researchers gave one explanation which is that the excellent conditions at Ngogo allow more females to live until they are older. Similar explanations have made to explain why many species, including chimps, go through menopause in captivity. However, the researchers believe there is another possibility, that could be a long period of life after reproduction has been common throughout chimp evolution, but recent human activity at other sites, including Ngogo, has hampered the survival of wild populations, including older females, due to disease and habitat loss. Netanyahu said the decision on when forces would go into the Palestinian enclave would be taken by the government's special war cabinet. Israel 'ground forces' conduct another night raid in Gaza, IDF releases aerial footage

The Fukushima nuclear plant operator has said that four workers came in contact with water containing radioactive materials. As part of precautionary measures, both of them were hospitalised.&nbsp;

A spokesperson for operator TEPCO told the news agency AFP that five workers were cleaning pipes at the ALPS system filtering wastewater for release into the sea when two were splashed with some of it&nbsp;when a hose came off accidentally.&nbsp;

The spokesman added that two others were contaminated when they were cleaning up the spill. The radiation levels of the two hospitalised men's bodies were at or above 4 becquerels per square centimetre, the threshold considered safe.&nbsp;

TEPCO said that as per a doctor, the possibility that the two men sustained burns due to radiation exposure is low.&nbsp;

"We've been told the condition of the two workers being hospitalised is stable," the spokesperson said.

"Both workers will stay in the hospital for about two weeks for follow-up examinations," he said.

He&nbsp;further noted that TEPCO is analysing how the incident happened and reviewing measures so that it won't happen again.

The law enforcement sources with knowledge of the probe told ABC News that Card left a note, which was found inside his home. It is reportedly being described as a suicide note addressed to the suspect's son.&nbsp;

However, the report also states that the note does not provide specific information that indicates a motive for the mass shooting.&nbsp;

US-based media reported that a convoy of armoured police vehicles lined the road near a home in Bowdoin, around 7:00 pm ET, Thursday evening.&nbsp;

The officers yelled through a megaphone, "Robert Card, you're under arrest. Come out now".&nbsp;

"Drop everything and come outside...If anyone is in the residence, walk outside and walk to the front of the driveway," they said.&nbsp;

Officials have said that he is from Bowdoin, Maine, a town near Lewiston. He is described as being 5'11" tall and weighing 230 pounds.&nbsp;

Card is a certified firearms instructor and a member of the US Army Reserve. He recently made threats to carry out a shooting at a National Guard facility in Saco, Maine, and also reported mental health issues, including hearing voices, the officials said.&nbsp;

He is twice divorced and a father of three children. He has a history of arrests for domestic violence and other crimes. One of his ex-wives obtained a restraining order against him.
