The study, which was published in the journal Astrobiology, stated that the proof of life on Mars is possibly getting damaged faster than previously estimated by the scientists.

"Our results suggest that amino acids are destroyed by cosmic rays in the Martian surface rocks and regolith at much faster rates than previously thought," Alexander Pavlov of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland said according to a report on Interesting Engineering.

“Current Mars rover missions drill down to about two inches (around five centimetres). At those depths, it would take only 20 million years to destroy amino acids completely. The addition of perchlorates and water increases the rate of amino acid destruction even further,"

Salah Abdeslam, the only surviving member of the 10-man group that carried out the November 2015 Paris attacks that left 130 people dead, was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to a lifetime prison sentence without any possibility of parole on Wednesday. Abdeslam, who is a Brussels-born French citizen, was handed the toughest life sentence in French law for being a part of a series of bombings and shootings across Paris that killed 130 people and injured more than 490.

Abdeslam was found guilty by the court of all five counts he was charged with, and he became the fifth person ever to be handed a life sentence without parole in France since it was legalised in 1994.

The judgement came after one of the biggest criminal trials in French history and Abdeslam was the only living member of the group of terrorists as nine others either killed themselves or were shot by the police since the Islamic State-backed series of attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015.

Abdeslam stayed hidden in Brussels after leaving France but was ultimately arrested in March 2016 following a shootout with the Belgian police. The French police accused him of planning the attacks and after the ten-month long trial, he was finally found guilty on all five counts.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday that he will be attending the G20 summit to be held in Indonesia later this year, but a lot will depend on the ongoing Russian invasion and also the composition of participants in the event. According to a report by Ukinform, Zelensky met Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Kyiv regarding the event and the two world leaders have a conversation about Ukraine’s possible participation. Widodo arrived in Kyiv earlier on Wednesday and he also visited the city of Irpin which has been ravaged by the constant conflict.

The G20 summit can possibly be the first time that Zelensky will be in the same event as Russian President Vladimir Putin since the Russian invasion of Ukraine started in February. Both leaders have appeared in same events but that has mainly been through video links. Widodo will be travelling next to Moscow in order to meet Putin and invite him personally to the G20 Summit.

In the official statement, Airbnb said that they have decided to limit the number of people allowed in a single property to 16 after implementing the rule in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A weary Williams then appeared close to victory as she built a 4-0 lead in the `super tiebreak`.

Williams, who had not played a singles match since retiring hurt against Aliaksandra Sasnovich here last year, went through every emotion in three hours and 11 minutes of drama and put her fans through the wringer too.

But in the end, a lack of match sharpness proved too much as another quest for a 24th Grand Slam title hit the buffers and the question is will she ever get another chance.

Tan, who had only ever won two Grand Slam main draw matches compared to the 98 won at Wimbledon alone by Williams, could hardly believe what she had done after clinching by far the biggest victory of her modest career.

"I`m so emotional now. Serena is a superstar and when I was young I was watching her so many times on the TV," the 24-year-old said on court. "For my first Wimbledon, it`s wow. Just wow.

"When I saw the draw I was really scared. Because it`s Serena Williams, she`s a legend. I thought if I could win one or two games it was really good for me."

`BETTER THAN LAST YEAR`

While defeat, which by ranking of opponent was the worst of her Wimbledon career, was a bitter pill to swallow, Williams said it was easier to accept than last year.

"It was definitely a very long battle and fight and it`s definitely better than last year. That`s a start," Williams told reporters. "I think physically I did pretty good. I think the last couple of points I was really suffering there."

Asked if she would be back at Wimbledon, Williams was coy.

"That`s a question I can`t answer. I don`t know. Who knows? Who knows where I`ll pop up?" 
Despite wildcard Williams`s notional ranking of 1,204, on paper the match looked like a mis-match.

Although her lawyers asked the court for leniency due to trauma, judge Alison Nathan decided to hand out the sentence that was suggested by the US Probation Office. Earlier, the prosecutors in the case asked the court for a sentence between 30 and 55 years, according to AFP.

"Today's sentence holds Ghislaine Maxwell accountable for perpetrating heinous crimes against children," Damian Williams, the US attorney for the Southern District of New York, said.

"This sentence sends a strong message that no one is above the law, and it is never too late for justice," he added in the judgement that marked a temporary end to the high-profile scandal.

Maxwell was arrested in 2020 and she has been in prison ever since. Epstein, who was arrested earlier, killed himself in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial for crimes he committed in New York.

However, the judge was convinced that she played a role in grooming minors for Epstein and even the defence lawyers agreed that Maxwell "was an adult who made her own choices."

Sergiy Gaiday, governor of the Lugansk region in Ukraine, also said on Monday that eight civilians in the city of Lysychansk were killed by a Russian strike. The governor said that they were out collecting water when Russia forces fired on the crowd with Uragan multiple rocket-launchers. “Today in Lysychansk, the Russians fired on a crowd of people with Uragan multiple rocket-launchers, as civilians were collecting water from a cistern,” Gaiday posted on Telegram. The Russian forces captured the city of Severodonetsk and they have now turned their attention towards its twin city – Lysychansk. The military has been looking to establish their complete domination in the Donbas territory and Lysychansk is their next target in the region.
