In an interview with CNN, when asked if assistance could be provided by Israel to Ukraine, like the US-backed technology Iron Dome which defends Israel from air attack, Netanyahu said, "Well, I'm certainly looking into it."

He added that the stockpile of artillery, which belongs to the United States and is stationed in Israel, has been shifted to Ukraine and he looks at the operations against Iran as part of a similar effort.

Netanyahu added that appeals were made to him to mediate in an unofficial role after Ukraine was invaded by Russia in February, however, he did not go ahead as he was then in opposition.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says ‘looking into’ sending military aid to Ukraine

A "silent strike" was held by the pro-democracy activists in Myanmar to mark two years of the military coup in which Aung San Suu Kyi was removed from power. As protesters called for a “silent strike”, the streets of various cities fell quiet, people stayed indoors and businesses remained shut.

Meanwhile, the state of emergency was extended by the country’s military administration for six months. Fresh sanctions have been announced by the UK, US, Canada and Australia against army-linked firms.

Major parts of the country went into complete chaos after the government was overthrown by the military two years ago, as more than a million citizens were displaced.

Earlier in November 2020, the army made allegations of fraud in elections held months before, in which Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) clinched victory after getting more than 80% of the votes.

Pro-democracy activist Thinzar Shunlei Yi said that resistance continued against the military, particularly in rural areas.

"The main message of the silent strike is to honour the fallen heroes and heroines and to reclaim the public space as our own," Shunlei Yi said, adding that they aim to make it clear to the army that they "shall never rule us".

India's Adani Enterprises calls off $2.5 billion share sale

India's market regulator is examining a recent crash in shares of Adani Group and looking into any possible irregularities in share, a source with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters on Wednesday. The Securities and Exchange Board of India's (SEBI) examination comes on a day when Adani Group shares plunged, extending losses in seven listed companies to $86 billion.

Spokespersons for Adani Group and SEBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

SEBI is undertaking a full-scale examination of the fall in shares, the source said, declining to be identified as the matter is confidential.

The share plunge was sparked by a report by Hindenburg Research last week which raised concerns about high debt and the valuations of the seven listed Adani companies. The group has denied the allegations, saying the short-seller's narrative of stock manipulation has "no basis" and stems from an ignorance of Indian law. It has always made the necessary regulatory disclosures, it added.

The source told Reuters the Indian market regulator is also looking into any possible price manipulation of Adani group stocks, as well as examining possible irregularities in the $2.5 billion share sale of the flagship firm Adani Enterprises, which concluded on Tuesday.

While the share offering's book building process was covered only 3% on Monday, it was fully subscribed on Tuesday as foreign institutional investors and corporate funds flooded in.

Indian market regulator examining Adani share rout: Report

In her Budget 2023 speech on Wednesday (February 1), Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the government’s approach towards simplifying the know-your-customer (KYC) process. The finance minister proposed how the Permanent Account Number (PAN) card will be used by the government as a common identifier for all digital processes at government agencies.

The changes proposed are likely to streamline the procedure of KYC and would make the management of documentation of PAN cardholders easier for the Income Tax Department as well as other governmental organisations.

Here’s what the finance minister said

In her speech, Sitharaman said, “The KYC process will be simplified by adopting a 'risk-based', instead of one-size fits all approach. The financial sector regulators will also be encouraged to have a KYC system fully amenable to meet the needs of Digital India.”

“A one-stop solution for reconciliation and updating of identity and address of individuals maintained by various government agencies and regulators will also be set up using DigiLocker service and Aadhaar as the foundational identity,” the finance minister stated.

“For obviating the need for separate submission of same information to different government agencies, a system of ‘Unified Filing Process’ will be set up. Such filing of information or return in simplified forms on a common portal, will be shared with other agencies as per the filer’s choice,” she added.

DigiLocker, Aadhaar to serve as “foundational identity"

For citizens, Aadhaar and DigiLocker will work as a “foundational identity”, a one-stop place to change address or identity, which will automatically be reflected across other platforms. For example, currently, if an address is updated in Aadhaar, it won’t get updated on the person’s Income Tax portal registration.

This change reflects how the government is working to synchronise the data of citizens across various portals when only one’s Aadhaar gets updated.

The DigiLocker service is being currently used to store and generate documents like PAN’s electronic version, Aadhaar, degrees, driving licences and academic certificates. In future, this platform will facilitate changing one’s details like an address which will eventually get updated at all necessary portals and in all documents.

Several suspects were arrested by the police in Peshawar, Pakistan as the investigation into the suicide bomb blast in the mosque, which killed more than 100 people, continues.

The police said that the chances of a bomber being able to evade security checks because of internal assistance cannot be ruled out completely.

This was the most deadly bombing in a decade which hit Peshawar, the north-western city of Pakistan, in which a few policemen were also killed, making it also the worst attack on Pakistan's security forces in recent history.

On Monday, a bomb blast took place in a mosque in which more than a hundred worshippers, who were present for noon prayers, were killed. The mosque was built for the police and their families who were living in a highly fortified area.

"We have found some excellent clues, and based on these clues we have made some major arrests," said Peshawar Police Chief Ijaz Khan while speaking to Reuters.

"We can't rule out internal assistance but since the investigation is still in progress, I will not be able to share more details,” he added.

The investigators, which include intelligence and counter-terrorism officials, are trying to decode how the suicide bomber breached the military and police checkpoints and entered into the self-contained police encampment, in which middle- and lower-ranking police personnel and their families were living.

Police nab suspects involved in Pakistan mosque blast, investigate security lapse

A 14-month-old French bulldog, Ralphie, who was surrendered by his at the Niagara SPCA, which is a no-kill shelter located in Niagara Falls, New York, is now being assisted by the shelter in finding his new owners in a very unconventional approach.

In a Facebook ad uploaded for his adoption, the aggressive nature of Ralphie was not hidden by the shelter as they talked about him being a “fire-breathing demon”, a “full jerk”, as well as an adorable 26lb dog.

In the post which received thousands of responses, the shelter accepted that the less desirable characteristics of dogs are generally downplayed in their adoption ads, but added that it was tough a task in the case of Ralphie, hence, they decided to remain brutally honest instead.

“We don’t actually have too many nice things to say so we’re just going to come out with it,” the shelter wrote.

“Ralphie is a terror in a somewhat small package. It could be because his previous owners may have spoiled him by giving in to all his whims, and created boundary issues,” the ad stated.

The last owners decided to give up the dog within two weeks of adoption because their older dog was irritated by Ralphie. This time around, the shelter knew what should the ad clearly state.

“Ralphie is a fire-breathing demon and will eat our dog, but hey, he’s only 26lb. Lots of people withheld Ralphie’s less than desirable traits, but we’re going to tell you all about it,” read the ad.

“He’s a whole jerk – not even half. If you show a moment of weakness, prepare to be exploited,” it added. However, people were very pleased by the honesty of the post.

“I’d like to donate toward his adoption fee,” responded one Facebook user to the ad. “I’m bossy and too much for some people too, so he’s a little bit my spirit animal,” the user said.

“Sometimes it’s not an upbringing, rather genetic and chemical imbalance. He would have to be placed with someone who understands mental illness in dogs. Not all dogs can be cured with hugs and kisses,” another person wrote.

Pakistan Peshawar blast: Tragic images narrate the extent of devastation

France and Australia’s defence ministers Sebastien Lecornu and Richard Marles on Monday said that they will supply 155 mm shells jointly to Ukraine which is needed for the artillery sent by the West since the invasion of Russia.

France's Lecornu said that "several thousand 155 mm shells will be manufactured jointly" by French arms supplier Nexter, as Marles added the plan will have a "multi-million-dollar" price tag.

The Australian minister added that the ammunition supplies fit into "the ongoing level of support both France and Australia are providing Ukraine to make sure Ukraine is able to stay in this conflict and... see it concluded on its own terms.”

Lecornu stated that the military assistance would be "significant" and "an effort that will be kept up over time", as the first deliveries have been scheduled for the first quarter of 2023.

Marles stated "there are some unique capabilities that exist in Australia and some synergies that can be achieved by Australia and France working together" for manufacturing the shells.

Lecornu said that the manufacturing will be carried out by Nexter while gunpowder will be supplied by Australia.

While the Google CEO did not clarify whether he will take a salary cut, as per what he said it appears that there is a high chance that he may take a massive salary cut himself.

Pichai also did not specify the percentage of salary cut which will happen and for how long will it remain so. A few weeks before the layoffs, Pichai had received a major salary hike.

At that time, Pichai was recognised by Google’s parent company Alphabet for his "strong performance" as CEO. Pichai, who received an equity award every three years, was awarded two tranches of PSUs, each with a target value of $63 million and was also gifted Alphabet's restricted stock units worth $84 million.

As per a filing from 2020, the annual salary of Pichai was disclosed by Google to be $2 million. IIFL Hurun India Rich List 2022, had stated that there was a decline in the total net worth of the Google CEO by 20 per cent, which currently stands at INR 5,300 crore.

"These are important moments to sharpen our focus, re-engineer our cost base, and direct our talent and capital to our highest priorities," he stated.
