Ahead of the farmers' call for march to India's capital Delhi on February 13,&nbsp;Haryana's Manohar Lal Khattar-led government on Saturday (Feb 10) announced the suspension of internet services in several districts.

As per the notification released by the state government, the mobile internet, bulk SMS and all dongle services will be blocked in seven districts till Tuesday, when the farmers are scheduled to stage their protest. The suspension of the services will be in force starting Sunday (Feb 11).

According to an official order, mobile internet services will remain suspended in--Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa--from 6 am on February 11 till 11.59 pm on February 13.

Security has been heightened in Jind, Haryana ahead of the planned 'Delhi Chalo' march called by&nbsp;the farmers.

In response to calls from farmer organisations to march to the nation's capital, Jind Police issued a traffic advisory as part of a precautionary measure for the ones travelling.&nbsp;

The police have advised commuters to use the main roads of the state only in the case of emergency on the day of the planned protest.

Russian envoy to India, Denis Alipov on Saturday (Feb 10) stated that the United States was making attempts to threaten Moscow's relationship with New Delhi via sanctions even though his country continues to be India's "reliable and time-tested friend".

"In India, Russia enjoys a solid reputation as a reliable, sincere, well-intentioned, time-tested friend. Such an image was initially shaped due to the major contribution of the USSR to Indian socio-economic development, and it largely persists to this day," Alipov said during an interview with news agency RT.

"US officials who come here do not hesitate to directly state that they are pursuing the goal of tearing New Delhi away from Moscow. They are even making threats with secondary sanctions. Some Indian partners are forced to exercise caution, sometimes, frankly speaking, excessively, but there are also a significant number of those for whom such an approach is unacceptable." he added.

The Russian envoy, stressing upon the strong bilateral relationship, stated that the New Delhi-Moscow ties, unlike the Western allies, have never "conditioned cooperation on politics" nor did the two sides ever meddle in each other's domestic affairs.

"Our ties continue to steadily expand in a wide range of areas according to our converging national interests. But unlike our Western partners, we have never conditioned cooperation on politics, have not interfered in domestic affairs, and have always maintained mutually respectful and trusted relationships. Therefore, even now we mainly see a growing desire to keep working together and finding ways to overcome well-known impediments caused by destructive unilateral approaches," said&nbsp;Alipov.

"It should be noted that over the recent years, the number of such contacts has increased manifold, and they are becoming more and more meaningful, including distributing information detailing the economic and investment potential and promising areas for interaction. It is indicative that the current bilateral trade turnover, which at the end of 2023 may exceed $60 billion, is several times higher than the pre-sanctions figures," he added.

Alipov also urged for immediate reforms of the United Nations and its agencies whilst making a strong case for India's inclusion as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

"We are of the view that India as a permanent member of the Security Council could make a significant contribution to promoting balance as well as an agenda focused on the interests of the world majority, primarily the countries of the Global South," the Russian envoy said.

Russia and India have had a strong strategic alliance based on similar interests and historical ties for decades now.

As per the Russian news agency, large-scale defense cooperation lies at the heart of the alliance with both countries participating in cooperative military exercises, co-development of cutting-edge military platforms, and technology transfers.&nbsp;

'US trying to threaten India-Russia relationship with sanctions,' says Russian Envoy

Departures from one of Delhi Airport's runways were halted for fifteen minutes after an IndiGo flight from Amritsar missed the taxiway on Sunday (Feb 11).

As per the airport authorities, IndiGo flight 6E 2221, which departed from Amritsar for Delhi, missed the route to the taxiway after landing&nbsp;at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).

This interrupted the flight departures from Runway 28/10 for 15 minutes.

To clear the runway, Indigo had to tow its aircraft, which further led to delays in the departures, reported news agency ANI citing sources.

The Philippine Coast Guard has accused Chinese vessels of engaging in "dangerous" manoeuvres on Sunday (Feb 11) while on a nine-day patrol close to a reef off the coast of Southeast Asia.&nbsp;

The Philippine vessel BRP Teresa Magbanua was sent out early in the month of February to patrol waters surrounding Scarborough Shoal, which is a productive fishing area in the South China Sea, and also ensure the safety of Filipino fishermen.

China took the reef from the Philippines in the year 2012, and since then, it has been a flashpoint between both countries.

The Philippine Coast Guard released a statement saying that the Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) vessels, during the patrol, "performed dangerous and blocking manoeuvres at sea against BRP Teresa Magbanua four times, with the CCG vessels crossing the bow of the PCG vessel twice".

The Philippine Coast Guard stated that its ship was also "shadowed" by four Chinese Coast Guard vessels "on more than 40 occasions".

Videos that were released by the Philippine Coast Guard showed a Chinese Coast Guard vessel metres from the port beam of the BRP Teresa Magbanua before it crossed the path of the Filipino boat.

"Nevertheless, the PCG vessel professionally engaged both the CCG and CMM vessels through radio reiterating the clear and principled position of the Philippines in accordance with international law," the statement said.

Commenting on the accusations from the Philippines, the Chinese foreign ministry said that the Scarborough Shoal was their country's sovereign territory and that the Chinese coastguard activities were legal in that particular area.

"China requires the Philippines to respect China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests and stop maritime infringement activities. China will continue to firmly safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in accordance with the law," the ministry said as per news agency Reuters.

The incidents occurred two months following severe standoffs between China and the Philippines over disputed reefs in the South China Sea, during which Chinese ships fired water cannons at Philippine boats, leading to a collision between their vessels.

The country has been ramping up travel connectivity in order to ease the transportation facility after extreme weather conditions posed challenges for the ones heading home for the traditional reunion dinner gatherings.

Nearly 1,873 passenger trains were added in a day across a vast railway network, a record according to state media outlet Global Times.

Railway activity was back to the fore after freezing rain and snow hampered train services&nbsp;earlier in the week.

Some of the passengers were stuck on trains for hours after power supplies were cut.

Many provinces rushed to heighten emergency response efforts in order to remove snow that blocked traffic flow on several highways, leaving passengers stranded in cars.&nbsp;

The authorities also made efforts to clear the snow off power lines, and train tracks and de-ice planes and runways at airports.

"An Israeli attack on 1.5 million Palestinians already facing inhumane conditions in Rafah will cause a massacre of innocent people," he wrote, urging the "whole world" to prevent it.

Spain and Germany also warned of a "humanitarian catastrophe" if the plan went ahead.

"We call for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, respect for international humanitarian law and the entry of aid," Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares posted on X.

India's Home Minister Amit Shah while addressing the 17th Lok Sabha on Saturday (Feb 10) spoke about the border issue at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh claiming that Beijing made attempt&nbsp;to replicate the 1962 war with New Delhi.

Shah restated the Union Government's stance on the matter in Parliament, asserting that India had "not lost out on any territory" in the military confrontation with the Chinese soldiers. &nbsp;

“China tried to do what it did in 1962," news agency PTI quoted Amit Shah as saying in Lok Sabha. “Our leadership displayed resolve and not an inch of India's land was lost," he added.

Since the inception of the border crisis, India has maintained that no encroachment of land has taken place by the Chinese troops. However, opposition parties, along with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi have launched scathing attacks against the Modi government over “letting China acquire Indian territory.”

The standoff which began in late April-May 2020 resulted in a violent skirmish in the Galwan Valley on June 15, 2020, which further claimed the lives on both sides of the border.

This was the first time in over 40 years that people were killed in a border which resulted in fatalities.

The action killed at least twenty Indian soldiers.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal, in a significant blow to the opposition INDIA bloc, on Saturday (Feb 10) made an announcement stating that his party will contest all 14 Lok Sabha seats alone in Punjab as well as Chandigarh.

Further indicating that there will be no alliance with the Congress in the state, the Delhi chief minister said that his party will announce candidates for all 14 seats in the coming 10-15 days.

"I would like to seek your blessings on one more thing. In the next two months, the Lok Sabha elections are scheduled. In this election, Punjab has 13 seats and one in Chandigarh. In total, there are 14 seats. In the next 10-15 days, the Aam Aadmi Party will announce candidates for all the 14 seats. Just like you had supported us two years back, I would like to seek your blessings to let Aam Aadmi Party win in all 14 seats by pressing on the 'broom'," Kejriwal said urging the people to vote for his party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Highlighting the scams under the UPA government's tenure, the Indian finance minister stressed Congress' "glaring mismanagement of defence" sector stating that its highlight was the Rs 3,600 crore AgustaWestland scam.

"Critical shortage of ammunition and defence equipment was the main feature of 2014 when we inherited the economy. Bulletproof jackets were not available for our soldiers. Night vision goggles were not available," Sitharaman said.

She then highlighted that the 'Jayanti Tax' during the reign of UPA, pushed the environment clearances for projects for up to a year stating that the efforts of the Modi government during its 10-year tenure put the economy back on rails.

The average time to clear projects increased to 316 days from 86 days between 2011 and 2014.

"We corrected all misgovernance, and focussed on reforms," Sitharaman said, adding the average environment clearance time for projects has come down to 70 days.

The UPA government, which was led by Congress had put forward the Ordinance in order to get around a Supreme Court judgement barring the elected representatives from becoming the members of legislative bodies upon being convicted in criminal cases.

However, they were propelled to push back the Ordinance after Rahul Gandhi publicly opposed it by shredding the piece of paper, claiming that it deserved to be dumped in&nbsp;the bin.

At the time of a hearing in the Lily Thomas vs Union of India case, the Supreme Court ruled that "any MP, MLA or MLC who is convicted of a crime and given a minimum of 2 years' jail loses membership of the House with immediate effect".

India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday (Feb 9) said that the White Paper which was tabled by the government in Parliament was a "serious document" and showed the dedicated efforts by the Modi government to bring the economy "back on rails" after almost a decade of "economic mismanagement" of the UPA government.

Responding to the debate on the White Paper in Lok Sabha, Sitharaman spoke of the measures taken by the Modi government to bolster self-reliance in defence and also expedite environmental licenses for more rapid economic development.&nbsp;

"I challenge anyone who says this document is baseless. Everything is with evidence. I challenge anyone who says that we have kept the White Paper which has no proof," Sitharaman said amid interruptions by opposition members.

"The White Paper is a serious document for documentary evidence for everything that is said in it and prepared with an intention of informing the House of the 10 years' dedicated effort to get the government work in such a way that the economy is back on rails and also progress in such a way that our aspirations can be met," she added.

While RSP (Revolutionary Socialist Party) leader NK Premachandran launched a scathing attack against the BJP-led government accusing the party of releasing the White Paper in a bid to blame the UPA government for its failures ahead of the elections.

He said the government was afraid of "exponential growth in unemployment and spiralling price rise" urging the members to disapprove of the motion that was brought by the government.

The White Paper said that when the BJP-led government was formed in the year 2014, "the economy was in a fragile state, public finances were in bad shape, there was economic mismanagement and financial indiscipline, and there was widespread corruption"

"It was a crisis situation. The responsibility to mend the economy step by step and to put the governance systems in order was enormous. Our government refrained from bringing out a white paper on the poor state of affairs then. That would have given a negative narrative and shaken the confidence of all, including investors. The need of the hour was to give hope to the people, to attract investments, both domestic and global and to build support for the much-needed reforms. The government believed in 'nation-first' and not in 
scoring political points."

"Now that we have stabilised the economy and set it on a recovery and growth path, it is necessary to place in the public domain the seemingly insurmountable challenges - left behind as a legacy by the UPA Government," the White Paper said.
