<p>According to new research, the number and quantity of meals are more important predictors of weight gain or reduction than the interval between meals. The findings of the study were published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, an open-access, peer-reviewed journal of the American Heart Association.</p>

<p>According to the senior study author Wendy L. Bennett, M.D., M.P.H., an associate professor of medicine at Johns&nbsp;Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, although ‘time-restricted eating patterns’ – known as intermittent fasting – are popular, rigorously designed studies have not yet determined whether limiting the total eating window during the day helps to control weight.</p>

<p>This study evaluated the association between time from the first meal to the last meal with weight change. Nearly 550 adults (18 years old or older) from three health systems in Maryland and Pennsylvania with electronic health records were enrolled in the study. Participants had at least one weight and height measurement registered in the two years prior to the study’s enrollment period (Feb.-July 2019).</p>

<p>Overall, most participants (80%) reported they were white adults; 12% self-reported as Black adults; and about 3% self-identified as Asian adults. Most participants reported having a college education or higher; the average age was 51 years; and the average body mass index was 30.8, which is considered obese. The average follow-up time for weight recorded in the electronic health record was 6.3 years.</p>

<p>Participants with a higher body mass index at enrollment were more likely to be Black adults, older, have Type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure, have a lower education level, exercise less, eat fewer fruits and vegetables, have a longer duration from last mealtime to sleep and a shorter duration from first to last meal, compared to the adults who had a lower body mass index.</p>

<p>The research team created a mobile application, Daily24, for participants to catalogue sleeping, eating and wake-up time for each 24-hour window in real time. Emails, text messages and in-app notifications encouraged participants to use the app as much as possible during the first month and again during “power weeks” — one week per month for the six-month intervention portion of the study.</p>

<p>Based on the timing of sleeping and eating each day recorded in the mobile app, researchers were able to measure: the time from the first meal to the last meal each day; the time lapse from waking to the first meal; and the interval from the last meal to sleep.</p>

<p>They calculated an average for all data from completed days for each participant.</p>

<p>Meal timing was not associated with weight change during the six-year follow-up period. This includes the interval from first to last meal, from waking up to eating a first meal, from eating the last meal to going to sleep and total sleep duration.</p>

<p>The total daily number of large meals (estimated at more than 1,000 calories) and medium meals (estimated at 500-1,000 calories) were each associated with increased weight over the six-year follow-up, while fewer small meals (estimated at less than 500 calories) were associated with decreasing weight.</p>

<p>The average time from first to last meal was 11.5 hours; the average time from waking up to first meal measured 1.6 hours; the average time from last meal to sleep was four hours; and the average sleep duration was calculated at 7.5 hours.</p>

<p>The study did not detect an association between meal timing and weight change in a population with a wide range of body weights.</p>

<p>As reported by Bennett, even though prior studies have suggested intermittent fasting may improve the body’s rhythms and regulate metabolism, this study in a large group with a wide range of body weights did not detect this link. Large-scale, rigorous clinical trials of intermittent fasting on long-term weight change are extremely difficult to conduct; however, even short-term intervention studies may be valuable to help guide future recommendations.</p>

<p>Although the study found that meal frequency and total calorie intake were stronger risk factors for weight change than meal timing, the findings could not prove direct cause and effect, according to lead study author Di Zhao, PhD, an associate scientist in the division of cardiovascular and clinical epidemiology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.</p>

<p>Researchers note there are limitations to the study since they did not evaluate the complex interactions of timing and frequency of eating. Additionally, since the study is observational in nature, the authors were unable to conclude cause and effect. Future studies should work toward including a more diverse population since the majority of the study’s participants were well-educated white women in the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S., the authors noted author.</p>

<p>Researchers also were not able to determine the intentionality of weight loss among study participants prior to their enrollment and could not rule out the additional variable of any preexisting health conditions.</p>

<p>According to the American Heart Association’s 2022 statistics, 40% of adults in the U.S. are obese; and the Association’s current diet and lifestyle recommendations to reduce cardiovascular disease risk include limiting overall calorie intake, eating healthy foods and increasing physical activity.</p>

<p>The 2017 American Heart Association scientific statement: Meal Timing and Frequency: Implications for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention did not offer a clear preference for frequent small meals or intermittent fasting. It noted that irregular patterns of total caloric intake appear to be less favourable for the maintenance of body weight and optimal cardiovascular health. And, altering meal frequency may not be useful for decreasing body weight or improving traditional cardiometabolic risk factors.&nbsp;</p>

Reducing calories more effective than intermittent fasting for weight loss: Study

For the sea-facing property, the 'Love Aaj Kal' actor has agreed to pay a monthly rent of Rs 7.5 lakh for the first twelve months, Rs 8 lakh for the second year and Rs 8.58 lakh for the third year. The lease terms indicate a 7 per cent escalation in rent every year. Shahid reportedly bought the apartment, located in the Praneta building on Juhu Tara Road, in 2014 before he tied the knot with Mira Rajput. The actor was staying there until last year with his two kids, Zain and Misha, and his wife. The family of four reportedly moved into a swanky new duplex located in Mumbai's Worli in September last year. The property's proximity to Juhu beach is its main attraction. As per reports, the property is spread over 3,681 sq ft and comes with two huge parking spaces. Aaryan has paid Rs 45 lakh as the security deposit. The stamp duty and registration for the 36-month lease transaction were done last week. Shahid’s wife has done the transaction on the actor's behalf with Aaryan’s mother Mala Tiwari, according to documents accessed through zapkey.com. Before moving into their new home in Worli, Shahid and Mira often shared photos and videos from their Juhu home. The spacious sit-out nook of the property is probably the most seen zone of the house. The actor furnished the recent example of the breakout success of 'Kantara' and said that good content will always work.</p>

<p>Speaking about the Kannada film, which has been written and directed by its lead actor Rishab Shetty, Shahid&nbsp;told IANS,&nbsp;"How would you judge a film like 'Kantara', man? It was not a spectacle when it was released. Of course, it is a spectacle to watch but it was the audience that made that film what it has become now."</p>

<p>Delving deeper, he stated, "It's more about what cinematic experience a film can provide. I agree that there is a clear demarcation between different content pieces but I don't see this as a change in trend. I just feel that multiple things have happened in the last three years and the differentiation is what I want to watch at home and what I am willing to watch in the theatres."</p>

<p>Further sharing his observation and insights, he expressed, "One thing that I have observed in the audience is that they are not willing to pay their hard-earned money for mediocre content. Unless your content is good, it has a certain scale, it has a certain entertainment quotient, it won't work. The audience wants to watch good content. They are willing to walk into the theatres but you have to bring your A-game to the table."</p>

<p>Changing the course of the conversation, the actor added, "Another thing is that the pandemic was very challenging for the entire fraternity because we work under certain conditions, this is a collaborative medium and there is a certain way of working. For instance, for 'Farzi', we hardly met before the shoot, we were constantly on Zoom calls trying to brainstorm from the confines of our homes staying as much safe as we could."</p>

<p>Shahid reiterated that filmmaking is a very touch-and-feel kind of job and one has to do a recce, visit the location and mark the boundaries for the shots, the props and the production design.</p>

<p>Shahid, who&nbsp;plays an artist turned counterfeiter in 'Farzi', shed some light on his character and said,&nbsp;"I found this character to be a very interesting dichotomy since he is an artiste, he creates something but his creation causes destruction to the economy in the long run.</p>

<p>"What I really love about Sunny (the character) is that I don't think he knows what he is or what he is capable of. I never judge the characters that I play, it's okay with me if people judge them or even hate them. My job as an actor is to put conviction and believability in my characters," he added.</p>

<p>"My favourite line of this character from the series is that he says he is helping the system by actually putting in more money. Every criminal has a justification for their actions and so does he," the actor concluded.</p>

<p>'Farzi' will premiere on Prime Video on February 10.</p>

Shahid Kapoor on Kantara's success: Good content will always work

<p>Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who recently became the first Indian actress to rule the cover of British Vogue, took to social media on Thursday to share a picture from her first collaboration with her daughter Malti Marie for a magazine cover.</p>

<p>While sharing the snap of the cover of the magazine, she wrote, "Another one of our many firsts together." Reacting to Priyanka's post, Parineeti Chopra wrote, "My litluuu is in Vogue! [baby emoji] Oh my heart."</p>

<p>The 40-year-old actress also opened up about her journey to motherhood and life as a mother&nbsp;to daughter Malti Marie in a candid conversation with the magazine. The actress also slammed trolls for leaving negative comments on her posts that featured her daughter.</p>

<p>"I've developed a tough hide when people talk about me," she told British Vogue. "But it's so painful when they talk about my daughter. I'm like, 'Keep her out of it.'"</p>

<p>Even though Selena Gomez and 'The Chainsmokers' star Andrew Taggart are currently hanging out together, it seems that the two are not actually dating each other. And, to confirm this, the 30-year-old 'Same Old Love' singer said in a now-deleted Instagram post that she likes being alone and is currently single.</p>

<p>Rumours of her relationship with Taggart started doing rounds when some photos, obtained by the New York Post's Page Six, showed the two stars bowling together at 'The Gutter'. Meanwhile, a&nbsp;source recently clarified to a publication that Gomez and Taggart were part of "a big group" who reached the bowling alley for a fun day out.</p>

<p>Posting a black-and-white photo on her official Instagram handle on Thursday, the actress-singer wrote, "I like being alone too much." She also added the hashtag "#iamsingle" at the bottom. Gomez deleted the post in a few hours.</p>

Meanwhile, a source recently clarified to a publication that Gomez and Taggart were part of "a big group" who reached the bowling alley for a fun day out. Posting a black-and-white photo on her official Instagram handle on Thursday, the actress-singer wrote, "I like being alone too much." She also added the hashtag "#iamsingle" at the bottom. <p>On Tuesday, Delhi High Court asked the makers of the upcoming movie 'Faraaz', which is&nbsp;based on the 2016 Dhaka terror attacks, to discuss and resolve their disputes with two victims' mothers, who recently moved an appeal challenging the film's release. The order was passed by a division bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Talwant Singh.</p>

<p>Earlier, a single-judge bench&nbsp;dismissed the mothers' plea, asking them&nbsp;to file an appeal instead.</p>

<p>The division bench said that if the filmmaker&nbsp;has decided to name the movie 'Faraaz', he should first assess and analyse what Urdu poet Ahmad Faraz stood for&nbsp;and resolve the issue.</p>

<p>"If you are naming the movie 'Faraaz', then you should know what Ahmad Faraz stood for. If you wish to be sensitive about the sentiments of a mother, then talk to her," the judge stated.</p>

<p>Contending that the producers have been insensitive about the issue, senior advocate Akhil Sibal representing the mothers, said that the deceased's and their family members' privacy should be maintained as it is one of the main aspects.</p>

<p>The attorney argued, "They did not even come to the family. That's been their approach. The learned single judge holds that since the girls are deceased there can be no right to privacy as regards their lives. That cannot be the approach. The question is whether the parents will have the right to privacy in relation to the lives of their daughters."</p>

<p>In response, the bench stated that it would not injunct the movie's release because the details are already out in the public. The next hearing is scheduled for January 24.</p>

<p>"We can ask them to sit with you and work this out. We don’t know if the law permits us to injunct the release of the film. The court can always ask you to be sensitive. You can't profit from somebody's misery. It is the statement of how right-minded people should conduct themselves. Please sit together," the court told the counsel appearing for Mehta.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Justice Mridul orally remarked, "People like sensational movies. People like movies based on true stories. What can you do?&nbsp;Not a single holocaust that man has ever experienced hasn't been put on celluloid. What do you do?"</p>

She shared two photos from her home and penned a heartfelt note. "Dear [sun emoji], I embrace you now like I have never before. So spotted, I’m losing colour. I rise even before you every morning, to see you glimmer your first ray through the haze. Give me all you’ve got. For I will be indebted, here on out and forever by your grace," she wrote and added several hashtags like #vitiligo, #autoimmunedisease, #autoimmune, #faceit, #healing and #fightit to the post. Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune disorder that causes patches of skin to lose pigment or colour. It's caused by the lack of melanin and the discoloured areas usually get bigger with time. This skin disorder is most noticeable among people with darker skin as the contrast between normal skin tone and white patches is more pronounced. In this condition, the melanocytes, present in the skin that make pigments, are attacked and destroyed. Other symptoms include: Hair turning prematurely grey or white Eyelashes or eyebrows losing colour Change of colour in the retina of the eye Colour loss in the nose and mouth Inflammation in ears or eyes The exact cause of vitiligo isn't known, but there is a strong connection between this skin condition and genetics or family history. External factors like sunburn, emotional distress and exposure to chemicals can also trigger this condition or make it worse. The film marks his directorial debut and is currently being shot in Langkawi, Malaysia. According to reports, his boat rammed into a bigger boat during the shoot. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Producer Dhananjayan took to Twitter to share his health update. "Happy to share that @vijayantony is fast recovering from the accident injury. He is under observation at the hospital at #Langkawi &amp; his family has reached and with him. They will take a call to bring him to Chennai soon. Let's pray for his speedy recovery &amp; back in action (sic),"&nbsp;Dhananjayan tweeted.</p>

<p>Director CS Amudhan also took to Twitter and wrote, "Guys I’ve spoken to his nearest circle &amp; @vijayantony is well, he will be back soon with shooting &amp; his many cryptic tweets! Come back strong nanba.. this year is ours! (sic)."</p>

<p>Meanwhile, a source from the film's unit told Hindustan Times, "They were shooting for an action sequence. He was riding a water boat which kind of lost control and rammed into a bigger boat which was carrying the cameraman’s crew and setup. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur. He’s recovering and stable."</p>
