The Gardens of the Valley are finally turning into colourful palettes with almond and cherry blossoms. And thousands of tourists are thronging the Kashmir Valley only to witness these beautiful visuals. These are the first flowers to bloom in a season and Badamwari garden located at the foothills of Kohi-Maraan mountain on 300 Kanals of land has more than 1000 almond trees.&nbsp;

''I came to know about Almond Blossoms from our local guide, they recommended this place, we didn't know that there is Japanese cherry blossom in India, and we would get to see it. We thought it would be one or two trees but it's the whole garden, It's such a beautiful spot, I think everyone would be amazed. Kashmir has been a beautiful surprise for me, We really didn't plan but since spring is a lovely time to visit and everyone here is so genuine and hospitable. We are extremely happy with our visit to the Valley,'' said Swati, a tourist.&nbsp;

A huge number of locals as well as the tourists are arriving at the Almond Garden. The social media sites are already filled with pictures of the Badamwari. The government is hoping that all the previous records of tourist arrivals would be broken this spring. The tourists already in the valley are enjoying the view of the bloom.

''I have been travelling across India for around 4 months, and when I came to Kashmir I just couldn't leave. It's been two months since I came here, I fell in love with Kashmir. And it's not only Kashmir but the people here are lovely. Kashmir people have a golden heart and great culture. In Indonesia we don't know about Kashmir that much, Its as beautiful as Europe, '' said Susanna Louis, a tourist from Indonesia.&nbsp;

The Tourism department of Kashmir is planning to celebrate the full spring season across the various gardens of the Srinagar City. The festival will start from Badamwari as almond flowers are first to bloom.&nbsp;

''We will have a full-fledged Badamwari festival by Mid-March. We are waiting for the full bloom. We are also planning festivals in offbeat destinations like Yusmarg and Pampore. We are expecting a good season, we had a great season last year and even this year we will have a great season. A lot of promotion will bear fruit and it's a great place to visit and I am sure people will, '' said Faz Lul Haseeb, Director Tourism.&nbsp;

The tourist stakeholders are also expecting huge arrivals this spring season as the Government is also planning to open Kashmir's Famous Tulip garden early this year.&nbsp;

Arrival of spring in Kashmir, thousands of almond trees in full bloom

In a far-flung village called Sadiwara in South Kashmir's Anantnag District, the village panchayat head started a unique initiative for saving the environment. He started a campaign by the name 'Give Plastic and Take Gold' where people of the village are asked to collect plastic waste and get a gold coin from the panchayat head.&nbsp;

Farooq Ahmad Ganai, a&nbsp;lawyer by profession and sarpanch (head) of the village Sadiwara, has become an inspiration for everyone in the Kashmir Valley.&nbsp;In order to get a coin, a person needs to hand over 200 kg&nbsp;of plastic waste.

The campaign became popular and just two weeks after its launch,&nbsp;the whole village was declared plastic-free.

"I started a slogan in my village, give polythene and get a reward. I took the initiative to clean the rivers and streams. Everyone in the village helped us to clear the sites. And finally on January 7, the deputy commissioner announced the area to be plastic-free. The gold that we are giving is from the plastic we are collecting. We will soon be a green village. I will not stop at my village but also take it to all districts of the Union Territory and later from Kashmir to Kanyakumari," said Farooq Ahmad Ganai. 
 
Ganai's initiative stands out from those started by the government.

The whole village took part in the drive and now it is the first village to be called plastic-free in the Kashmir Valley. The youth of the area have joined forces with the sarpanch in cleaning the village and setting an example for the rest of the Valley and country.&nbsp;

“The Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and launched in 2014 by PM Narendra Modi, was our starting point. The sarpanch is a brilliant leader and makes sure to take us all on board to carry forward such initiatives. We took two weeks to make our village plastic-free. We will take it forward to other districts," said Shakeel Wani, youth leader and activist.&nbsp;

The streams flowing through the village have been now cleaned and plastic that choked these streams been taken out. The water is finally crystal clear after years. Women also participated in the initiative&nbsp;and helped in cleaning the roads, streams and fields as well.&nbsp;

“We have been working with the Sarpanch for four months now, and he is hardworking. He made sure our village was clean and he did it. You can see it with your eyes. He comes from a good background but despite that you can see him cleaning the drains in the area. It’s his hard work that is making sure our village is clean. We will give plastic and get gold. It has worked wonders in the area," said Sakeena Begum, Anganwadi worker.&nbsp;

The village that had heaps of plastic thrown on the roads before is now completely clean and all the plastic that is collected is handed over to the panchayat members. This village is setting an example for other villages and the government is also trying to replicate the same idea in every village of the Union Territory.&nbsp;

''(1) Umar Mushtaq Khan S/o Mushtaq Ahmad Khan R/o Begum Bagh Kakapora Pulwama, (2) Murtaza Rashid Dar S/o Ab. Rashid Dar R/o Samboora District Pulwama, (3) Sajjad Ahmad Dar S/o Gh. OGW module in J&K: SIA files chargesheet against four accused in NIA court

To ensure the least collateral damage and successful anti-terror operations in the Kashmir Valley, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has made and inducted a bomb/bulletproof armoured vehicle also known as CSRV (critical situation response vehicle) to fight terrorism in Kashmir.&nbsp;

The latest all-terrain highly sophisticated vehicle 'CSRV' has given a shot in the arm to the Central Reserve Police Force engaged in counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

The CRPF has introduced a modern bullet and bomb-proof vehicle for room/house interventions during encounters in Kashmir Valley. And this step has proven to be very successful for the forces. It has helped to build the morale of soldiers on the ground as well.&nbsp;

"It is called Critical Situation Response Vehicle. It was indigenously done by our research and development wing in New Delhi. This acts like a force multiplier, in situations like narrow lanes and by-lanes where you need to sort of intervene in a room or house where a terrorist is held up, the vehicle has the manoeuvrability to leverage such situations effectively. For example, this vehicle has a bulletproof Morcha. It has a hydraulic system and can be raised to the second floor of the house as well. It has steer and skid technology, it can revolve 360 degrees, in narrow lanes and by lanes, and it can enter easily. Right now, we have two such vehicles, and since it's been designed by our own team, we are using it extensively," said IG CPRF (Kashmir Operations) MS Bhatia.&nbsp;

CRPF has had a major modernisation in the last four years. From arms and ammunition to surveillance equipment like the latest guns and high-tech surveillance, gadgets have been provided to the soldiers on the ground by the government of India. Joint venture carbons rifle, PSG 1A1, explosive detector, handheld thermal imaging, through wall radar, MI machine gun 7, latest bulletproof and new bunker vehicles.&nbsp;

"We are using technology extensively in the modernisation of weapons, and CCTV surveillance of the national highway after the Pulwama incident. It has yielded good results. We have also deployed drones, night vigil cameras, bulletproof and mine proof vehicles and medium bulletproof vehicles, our armoury is now top class, deploying drones extensively not only during operations and for the surveillance of national highways. All these endeavours we do are for the soldiers fighting on the ground because it's like a force multiplier," said IG CPRF (Kashmir Operations) M S Bhatia.&nbsp;

The CSRV and the JCBs have a bulletproof cabin mounted on a forklift for security personnel to gain the advantage of height against the adversary without being exposed to danger. The CSRV cabin provides 180-degree protection while the JCBs have 360-degree protection for the soldiers inside the bullet-proof cabin. The CRPF says the new technology acts as a force multiplier and morale booster for the soldiers. Soldiers are feeling confident while engaging in an encounter and room/house interventions during the operations.&nbsp;

"This is a force multiplier and morale booster for the soldiers. While Jawans are moving in this vehicle their confidence boosts tremendously, because they are sure of their security. The vehicle has grade-four bullet-proofing so no bullet or grenade can harm them. So, confidence increases, accuracy increases, and our results are increasing. We are using the best of the best equipment available in the country and world, so after the Pulwama attack we have been provided with all kinds of facilities which one soldier can think of, we are fully equipped and well trained and these are the things giving results on the ground," said Alok Awasthy, DIG Operations CRPF, Kashmir.&nbsp;

The vehicle also gives soldiers an advantage as there is hardly any chance of causality and it has proven a great success in the operations used. The soldiers feel the government of India has brought in major changes after the Pulwama attack in 2019.&nbsp;

"The vehicle which has been provided has level four bullet-proofing when we have to do the room intervention and this vehicle is being used. By this vehicle, there is hardly any causality to security forces with great success and also helps build our morale. The new weapons which have been provided like wall radar, snipers which help us to see inside the house, benefit us. The morale remains high, and we also think that the government is doing something for us," Jiri Khandik, Soldier.&nbsp;

The CRPF is making many more vehicles like these and may in future provide them to other security agencies.&nbsp;

TRF terrorists responsible for Kashmiri Pandit’s killing neutralised in Pulwama encounter

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti visited the residence of slain Sanjay Sharma in Achan Pulwama today. Sanjay Sharma was killed by terrorists on Sunday. Mehbooba Mufti blamed the BJP for the deteriorating situation in the Valley. She also questioned the government on what they were doing to change the situation in the Valley.

''BJP is using Kashmiri Pandits as a weapon, by making films on them, selling their pain in the rest of the country to create a rift between Hindus and Muslims, they have no agenda other than this," she said.&nbsp;Mehbooba Mufti further added, "If militancy is over then who killed Sanjay Sharma yesterday? What is the government doing to protect Pandits? I want to appeal Muslims of Kashmir valley, no doubt there is suppression by BJP and by terrorism, Kashmiri pandits and others are our assets we should save them any how."

Earlie,&nbsp;&nbsp;the BJP took out a protest in Srinagar against Pakistan for fuelling terrorism in the Valley. The protesters raised slogans against Pakistan and burnt an effigy and demanded stern action against the terrorists involved in the killing of the Kashmiri Pandit.

"We strongly condemn the killing of innocent people by terrorists. The selective killings of minority community members in Kashmir are aimed at disturbing the social fabric and brotherhood among Muslims and Kashmiri Pandits," said BJP leader Sajjid Yousuf. Sajid further said that "it's not possible for the government to provide security to every individual from a minority community but if locals of Kashmir started to report terrorist movements and deny them all help the day will not be far that these killings will stop once for all''.

Yesterday, the locals of Pulwama held a protest demonstration and candlelight March against the killing of Sanjay Sharma.

The LG of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha while speaking to media said&nbsp;that ''it's extremely unfortunate and I condemn this killing, whoever is responsible for these acts.&nbsp;Our security forces will make sure to deal with them. It does raise security concerns among the people, but we are working on the situation, and we will make sure the situation is brought to normal."

BJP's state head Ravindra Raina also visited the family of Sanjay Sharma. ''The brutal killing of Sanjay Sharma is condemnable. BJP will do everything to help the family. The LG administration will make sure to help the family. I can see a huge number of Kashmiri Muslims have also attended to the family and have gathered for the final rites. The locals are standing with them and its Kashmiriyat. But some who can't see peace here want to disturb the situation."

''Terrorists fired upon one civilian from the minority community, namely Sanjay Sharma S/O Kashinath Sharma R/O Achan, Pulwama while on way to the local market. He was shifted to hospital however, he succumbed to injuries. There was an armed guard in his village. Area cordoned off. Details shall follow,'' the police tweeted.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, DIG South Kashmir, said that Sharma was a member of a minority community.&nbsp;

“We are sifting the information and the terrorists involved in the killing will be neutralised soon. We are also making sure to not let terrorists succeed in their plans. We have started the investigation and soon will be able to neutralize the terrorists involved in the attack,'' Bhat added.&nbsp;

The police started a massive search operation in the area but terrorists managed to flee. On social media, a terror outfit by the name of 'United Liberation Front' has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, this has not been confirmed by security agencies.&nbsp;

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah condemned the killing.&nbsp;

''Deeply saddened to hear of the demise of Sanjay Pandith of Achan in Pulwama district of South Kashmir. Sanjay was working as a bank security guard &amp; was killed in a militant attack earlier today. I unequivocally condemn this attack &amp; send my condolences to his loved ones, '' Abdullah tweeted.&nbsp;

India: 40-year-old man killed by terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pulwama; search ops launched

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified the operations against narco-terrorism in the valley. Hundreds of kilogrammes of narcotics have been recovered in the last few months across the Union Territory. The areas close to the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border have been put on alert as most of the consignments of these narcotics come from across the border.&nbsp;

The Special Investigation Agency (SIA) of the police has intensified the investigations into&nbsp;the narco terror cases in the valley. Dozens of raids have been conducted in different areas of Jammu and Kashmir in the last week. Multiple arrests have been made along with huge recoveries. The SIA conducted raids across the Kashmir region in Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam and Baramulla districts.

According to police, narcotics smuggling has been taking place at the behest of terrorists from across the border and all the arrests that have been made in the valley have had connections to Pakistan. A group was recently arrested in North Kashmir's Baramulla, which is close to the Line of Control.

''The narco terror group that we have busted is connected to Pakistan. The handlers based in Pakistan are controlling this narco terror network in the valley. They are part of a big narco racket, and a huge quantity of narcotics has been recovered from their possession. We have also recovered a huge amount of cash. This group was huge, and they are the ones sending these narcotics to different parts of the valley and selling them to youngsters. It's a huge success for us,'' said Amod Nagpuri, SSP Baramulla.&nbsp; 
 
According to police, ever since the vigil on the borders has been increased and infiltration brought down to zero, the money that used to come to Jammu and Kashmir through the hawala racket and distributed among terrorist organisations has been stopped. And that is one of the reasons that terror handlers in Pakistan have started the narco-terror trade.&nbsp;

''We are focusing a lot on narco terror funding. Huge recoveries have been made in the last few months. In one month, we have recovered around Rs 41 lakhs in Srinagar while Rs 26 lakhs in Baramulla. The money that is coming for terrorism and narco is on our radar,'' said Vijay Kumar, ADGP Kashmir Police.&nbsp;

After hawala trading, the terror groups are using the narco trade to fund the terror groups in the valley and to stop this funding, police in the valley have intensified the operations.&nbsp;

The administration led by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has issued the order to impose a property tax on people living within the jurisdiction of urban local bodies across the Union Territory with effect from April 1 this year.&nbsp;

The Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development department issued a notification stating the rules for the levy, assessment and collection of property tax in municipality committees and municipal councils. The rules shall be called as Jammu and Kashmir Property Tax (Other Municipalities) Rules, 2023, and will come into force from April 1, 2023. &nbsp;

The regional political parties in Jammu and Kashmir have come out strongly against the decision. Former J&amp;K chief minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said that the order is “unjust”.

“No Taxation Without Representation. Why should people in J&amp;K pay state taxes, including the proposed property tax when we have no say in how our government is run &amp; no say in the decision-making of J&amp;K. We are expected to be mute spectators to all unjust decisions by Raj Bhavan,” said Omar Abdullah, former J&amp;K chief minister.&nbsp;

The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, on the other hand, called the decision an injustice. ''The people of this region have faced terrorism for decades and whatever was left was taken away during Covid, the economic condition of people is also worse, and now imposing this property tax is completely unacceptable. The people of the Union territory should come out and resist the government's decision in a peaceful manner. These decisions should be left for the elected government to decide, '' said Mehbooba Mufti, Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

Kashmir’s craft industry has been gasping for its survival. The markets have been shrinking and there has been a decline in the number of artisans as well.&nbsp;However, the centuries-old Pashmina and Kani shawl craft industry is being revived with the younger generations of craftsmen and designers in the valley.

The artisans are incorporating the original designs from the 18th century to attract more people towards the craft and with Shahrukh Khan wearing a Kani Shirt, the attention towards the industry has increased.

''Whenever Bollywood celebrities wear Kashmir craft products, it's bound to highlight the craft. Shah Rukh Khan's shirt in Pathaan movie is definitely going to get Kani craft more attention. Film advertising also helped&nbsp;to take the crafts to international markets. If Bollywood celebrities wear it, it helps the market a lot. These Kani shawls are art pieces and take 6 months to one and a half years in making. It's not one but many artisans which are involved in making a Kani shawl -- from spinning the yarn to dying the yarn, designing the shawl etc,'' said Suhail Fayaz, Pashmina and Kani Expert.

Kashmir's Kanihama village is said to be the origin of Pashmina and Kani shawls. These shawls&nbsp;have been worn by celebrities like Indian&nbsp;Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan and others. Kani Shawl GI tagging and labelling have been done by the government of Jammu and Kashmir for the preservation, promotion and authenticity of the craft. The handicrafts and Handloom department have secured GI for 7 crafts and GI for 17 more crafts is in the pipeline.

''The Kani is a century-old craft, and it was adorned by the emperors. We have been reviving Kani for the last one year. We are trying our best to make those designs again and bring it to people. We have got a great response from people across the world for these Kani Shawls. The market for Pashmina and Kani has always been there, after GI we have seen an increase in the interest of the people. Now the customers are asking us for old designs again,'' Showkat Ahmad Mir, Kani Artisan.

The new age designers and artisans are now trying to incorporate Kani into various products like jackets, bags, and bridal couture. It will further boost the industry and open new doors for the artisans too.

With Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan donning the Kashmiri Kani Shirt in his latest release Pathaan, the crafts of Kashmir have been highlighted yet again. Kashmir’s craft industry has been gasping for its survival. The markets have been shrinking and there has been a decline in the number of artisans as well. However, the centuries-old Pashmina and Kani shawl craft industry is being revived with the younger generations of craftsmen and designers in the valley. The artisans are incorporating the original designs from the 18th century to attract more people towards the craft and with Shahrukh Khan wearing a Kani Shirt, the attention towards the industry has increased. ''Whenever Bollywood celebrities wear Kashmir craft products, it's bound to highlight the craft. Shah Rukh Khan's shirt in Pathaan movie is definitely going to get Kani craft more attention. Film advertising also helped to take the crafts to international markets. If Bollywood celebrities wear it, it helps the market a lot. These Kani shawls are art pieces and take 6 months to one and a half years in making. It's not one but many artisans which are involved in making a Kani shawl -- from spinning the yarn to dying the yarn, designing the shawl etc,'' said Suhail Fayaz, Pashmina and Kani Expert. Kashmir's Kanihama village is said to be the origin of Pashmina and Kani shawls. These shawls have been worn by celebrities like Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan and others. Kani Shawl GI tagging and labelling have been done by the government of Jammu and Kashmir for the preservation, promotion and authenticity of the craft. The handicrafts and Handloom department have secured GI for 7 crafts and GI for 17 more crafts is in the pipeline. ''The Kani is a century-old craft, and it was adorned by the emperors. We have been reviving Kani for the last one year. We are trying our best to make those designs again and bring it to people. We have got a great response from people across the world for these Kani Shawls. The market for Pashmina and Kani has always been there, after GI we have seen an increase in the interest of the people. Now the customers are asking us for old designs again,'' Showkat Ahmad Mir, Kani Artisan. The new age designers and artisans are now trying to incorporate Kani into various products like jackets, bags, and bridal couture. It will further boost the industry and open new doors for the artisans too.

After Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the snow cricket in Kashmir Valley in his Mann Ki Baat, Indian Army organised a Women's Snow Cricket Tournament in the bordering area of North Kashmir's Kupwara district. With feet of snow accumulated in the area, the Indian Army organised a Women's Snow Cricket tournament, under the Khelo India initiative, for local female cricketers in the Panzgam village of Kupwara.

For the first time, Indian Army along with the locals organised a Women's Cricket Tournament for the local female cricketers in the area. Four cricket teams of women from different areas of the Kupwara district participated in the tournament. The teams from Kralpora and Meelyal Block of Kupwara participated in the event. And hundreds of people had gathered to watch the girls play on the snow and display the community's passion for cricket.

''We are extremely thankful to the Indian army for giving us an opportunity to play here. Girls generally don't get such opportunities in Kashmir; We are so lucky to play on snow. This time our parents also allowed us to go out and play. Girls are doing great in every field. Girls are doing better in studies, and I am sure they will do much better in sports too, '' said a female cricketer, participating in the tournament.&nbsp;

The event saw a huge number of public participation. The public representatives and locals from the area were present to witness the first-ever winter sports tournament for girls in this area. Such frequent events conducted by Indian Army in Kupwara have seen widespread participation of local women.&nbsp;

Indian army organises Women's Snow Cricket Tournament in North Kashmir

Indian Army today foiled an Infiltration attempt of terrorists in the forward area of the Tangdhar sector in the Kupwara district. One terrorist has been killed in the operation and searches are still continuing in the area. The Indian army said that alert troops deployed in an anti-infiltration grid detected the movement of three terrorists across their own side of the Line of Control, while the terrorists were approaching the LoC Fence.&nbsp;

''Indian Army eliminated an infiltration attempt in forward areas of Tangdhar sector on the night of 15/16 Feb 23, thereby preventing efforts of Pakistan to destabilise peace and tranquillity in Kashmir valley and successfully maintaining higher moral ascendancy over the enemy along the Line of Control,'' said PRO Defence, Srinagar.

''On being challenged at close proximity to the post, an intense firefight ensued between the terrorists and the alert troops, resulting in the successful elimination of one terrorist, while grievously injuring the other. The injured terrorist managed to flee to PoJK, along with the third terrorist, taking advantage of darkness,'' he added.&nbsp;

However, a thorough Joint Search Operation was launched along with Jammu and Kashmir Police in the area resulting in the recovery of one dead terrorist, one AK series rifle, one light automatic weapon, six magazines, two grenades and large quantities of war-like stores.&nbsp;
