<p>This comes after UK mobile phone giant Vodafone announced to cut 11,000 jobs, one-tenth of its workforce, over three years. After the jobs cuts, the workforce will&nbsp;come down in between 75,000 and 90,000 over the next five to seven years, BT said in a statement.</p>

<p>A number of tech companies,&nbsp;including giants such as&nbsp;Facebook parent Meta, Google, and&nbsp;others have laid off a significant number of their employees this year. One of the major reasons why companies are laying off their employees is inflation which has taken the world economy down.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"By the end of the 2020s, BT Group will rely on a much smaller workforce and a significantly reduced cost base," said chief executive Philip Jansen. In the statement, he added, that the firm is "navigating an extraordinary macro-economic backdrop."&nbsp;</p>

<p>On the contrary to the grim side, BT said that once the telecom's full fibre broadband and 5G network are launched the firm would not need staff then to be able to maintain it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The slimmed-down group "will be a leaner business with a brighter future" and will "digitise the way we work and simplify our structure".</p>

<h2><strong>BT's revenue dipped&nbsp;&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>BT on Thursday also announced that the firm's net profit soared 50 per cent to £1.9 billion ($2.4 billion) in its fiscal year to March. However, performance-wise the company is not keeping up on its game. The performance was skewed by a one-off tax credit.</p>

They are doing their job. These are very serious accusations."</p>

<p>This key development comes after Ukraine on Wednesday refuted claims that Russia destroyed a US-made Patriot missile defence system using its hypersonic missile in an air strike on Kyiv. A day earlier on Tuesday, Kyiv said it had destroyed Russia's six hypersonic weapons. However, Moscow has denied any such claims. &nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Academic conferences and articles by Russian academics&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Russian academics are also in the spotlight due to the materials they presented at international forums. The arrested scientists had participated in many international conferences over the years. The open letter referring to these conferences said, "any article or report can lead to accusations of high treason."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In this situation, we are not only afraid for the fate of our colleagues. We just do not understand how to continue to do our job," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Two of the arrested Russian academics, namely Anatoly Maslov and Alexander Shiplyuk, attended a seminar in Tours city in France. At the seminar, the duo presented the conclusions of an experiment on hypersonic missile design.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Four years later, in 2016, all three co-authored a book that had a chapter entitled "Hypersonic Short-Duration Facilities for Aerodynamic Research at ITAM, Russia".</p>

<p>The open letter from their colleagues at the Khristianovich Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in Novosibirsk claimed that the materials the scientists had presented in international forums had been thoroughly examined to make sure they did not contain restricted information.</p>

<p>The letter also mentioned the instance of Dmitry Kolker, another scientist from Siberia who was detained on treason charges last year despite having advanced pancreatic cancer and flown to Moscow. Two days later, laser expert Kolker passed away.</p>

<p>As far as the Covid mortality rate is concerned, in 2020, it accounted for 0.24 deaths per 100,000 for individuals aged between 1 to 19 years. But the massive surge in injury deaths was 12 times higher at 2.80 deaths per 100,000.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"For decades, the overall death rate among US children has fallen steadily, thanks to breakthroughs in prevention and treatment of diseases like premature births, pediatric cancer and birth defects," he said adding, "We now see a dramatic reversal of this trajectory, meaning that our children are now less likely to reach adulthood. This is a red flashing light. We need to understand the causes and address them immediately to protect our children."</p>

Death rates in American youths at alarming 15-year high, study indicates these causes

<p>Indian Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the Tamil Nadu law which allows the bull-taming sport 'Jallikattu' in the state, as per reports. While delivering the ruling, the apex court said that the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Tamil Nadu Amendment) Act, 2017, substantially minimises pain and suffering to animals.</p>

<p>In addition to Jallikattu, the apex court also upheld laws passed by Karnataka and Maharashtra with regard to sports like Kambala and the bull-cart race. It is important to know Supreme Court in May 2014 held that Jallikattu was violative of the rights of the animals. However, later the State government enacted the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Tamil Nadu Amendment) Act of 2017.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However the amendments were challenged before the Indian top court. On Thursday, the court upheld the constitutional validity of the State amendments and&nbsp;dismissed a batch of petitions challenging the constitutionality of these amendments.</p>

<p>The 5 judge bench comprised of Justice KM Joseph, Justice Ajay Rastogi, Justice Aniruddha Bose, Justice Hrishikesh Roy, and Justice CT Ravikumar. The court said that the amendments minimises the pain and suffering caused to animals.</p>

<p>The Constitution Bench observed that these laws cannot be construed as "colourable legislations" and that the State legislature had the legislative power to make these amendments as per Entry 17 to List II of the Seventh Schedule, as per Live Law. The court further noted that the amendments cannot be faulted as they have already received the assent of the president.&nbsp;</p>

Legislature is best suited to decide that."</p>

<p>Out of the 201 children who received the ‘skinny jab’ aka Semaglutide, nearly half of them have lost enough weight and are no longer classified as ‘clinically obese’.&nbsp;A study led by the co-director of the Center for Pediatric Obesity Medicine at the University of Minnesota, Dr Aaron Kelly, administered one dose of 2.4mg of semaglutide to nearly 134 children aged between 12 and 18 years of age once a week for a duration of 68 weeks.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the remaining 67 children received a placebo over the same duration of time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The results presented to the European Congress on Obesity in Dublin concluded that 12 per cent of adolescents who took placebo lost enough weight to no longer be classified as ‘clinically obese’.</p>

<p>Moreover, nearly 45 per cent of adolescents who took semaglutide were able to no longer fall under the ‘clinically obese’ category.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The results of the study further concluded that nearly 74% of children who were administered semaglutide showed an improvement of one Body Mass Index (BMI), as opposed to just 19% of children who took placebo.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 70-year-old Imran Khan held a meeting with other PTI leaders at his Lahore residence. "To ensure that there is no public reaction, they have done two things -- first deliberate terror is unleashed not just on PTI workers but on common citizens as well. Second, the media is totally controlled and muzzled."</p>

<p>"This is a deliberate attempt to instill so much fear in people that when they come to arrest me tomorrow, people won't come out. And tomorrow they will again suspend internet services and ban social media (which is only partially open). Meanwhile, as we speak, houses are being broken in and shamelessly police are manhandling the women of the houses," he added.</p>

<p>Islamabad High Court granted two-weeks bail to Imran Khan which will end on 17 May.&nbsp;Khan said that he will fight for Haqeeqi Azaadi [rightfull freedom] till the "last drop of my blood because for me death is preferable than to be enslaved by these assortments of crooks."</p>

If we bow to the idol of fear there will only be humiliation and dismemberment for our future generations. <p>Imran Khan will appear before Lahore High Court today in connection to the case over violent protests that gripped Pakistan after the arrest of the former prime minister.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
