<p>"At the bottom of our hearts, we feel we have lost so badly, we lost Afghanistan, we lost our dreams," he confessed.<strong>&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Balki did his education in India and he was also the deputy chief of mission at the Afghan embassy in New Delhi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I was in India for 12 years," he reminisced as his tone softened. "I have done my study in India. I did my diplomatic career in India."&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the subcontinent, he found a sense of belonging, drawing parallels between Delhi and Kabul. The commonalities mostly were able to serve as a balm for his homesickness.</p>

<p>August 15, 2021, marked a sombre turning point for Balkhi and his friends.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It was as usual... I left my home for university to take classes," he recalled, a sense of normalcy threading through his words.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But the day's events quickly shattered that normalcy, he said. The city's atmosphere shifted dramatically, roads were blocked, and rumours of the Taliban's return circulated.</p>

<p>"I realized that I was mistaken," Balkhi conceded and said&nbsp;that the Taliban's actions contradicted the narrative at the time that they have changed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The extrajudicial activities in Afghanistan revealed the true face of Taliban 2.0.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Balkhi, whose writings are anti-Talibani, recognised soon enough that there is a threat to his life under the new regime.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He knew he had to leave.</p>

<h2><strong>Education is the key</strong></h2>

<p>For Balkhi, education was central to Afghanistan's progress.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Having served in the Ministry of Education during a time of security upheaval, he understood the pivotal role schools played in shaping the nation's future.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Even in remote areas," he said, recalling the days before the Taliban made a comeback,&nbsp;"it was not the case" that girls were prevented from going to school. However, the Taliban's rise led to the closure of hundreds of schools, thwarting the progress he had strived for.</p>

<p>Despite the dark clouds cast by the Taliban's return, Balkhi is optimistic about Afghanistan's resilience.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The assassination of Villavicencio, marked by its brutality, has deeply shocked a country that had mostly evaded the extensive drug-related violence and corruption seen in its neighboring nations.</p>

<p>The other project involves collaborations between Climeworks, Battelle Memorial Institute, and Heirloom Carbon Technologies Inc. and is proposed for Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. These endeavours mark the initial wave of investments announced by the Energy Department.</p>

<h2><strong>Giant vacuum for carbon removal</strong></h2>

<p>Energy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm reportedly said that the technology at the heart of these projects can be likened to a giant vacuum capable of extracting decades' worth of carbon pollution directly from the sky.</p>

<p>Granholm said, “If we deploy this at scale, this technology can help us make serious headway toward our net-zero emission goals.”</p>

<p>Once operational, these projects are projected to eliminate over 2 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide annually from the atmosphere, equivalent to the environmental impact of nearly half a million gas-powered cars being taken off the roads each year.</p>

<p>The Energy Department revealed plans to unveil additional projects in the upcoming year.</p>

<p>Moreover, the Energy Department has selected 19 projects for smaller "award negotiations." Among these, Chevron Corp.'s division in San Ramon, California, has proposed a direct air capture hub, which has been allocated $3 million for development.</p>

<p>Additionally, Carbon Capture Inc. has secured $12.5 million for the Wyoming Regional Direct Air Capture Hub, further expanding the scope of carbon removal efforts.</p>

<p>Despite its potential, the industry is still in its nascent stage and is reportedly characterised by high costs and substantial energy requirements for operation. US invests $1.2 billion into carbon-sucking projects in major push to battle global warming

One of the deadliest clashes occurred in June 2020, when a violent skirmish took place between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley. This clash resulted in loss of lives of about 20 Indian soldiers, and an estimated higher casualty on the other side though the Chinese never shared the fatality figures.</p>

<p>The latest&nbsp;engagement, expected to take place on Monday, is aimed to address the military standoff between the two nations.</p>

<h2><strong>Three-year military standoff</strong></h2>

<p>A prolonged military standoff between India and China began in May 2020. It has led to a series of confrontations. The Chinese attempted to forcefully alter the status quo on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), resulting in tensions that have persisted for the past three years.</p>

<p>There have been heightened construction activities along the border regions by both countries, aimed at reinforcing their positions. Military talks focusing on disengagement and de-escalation along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh commenced shortly after the initial confrontations between the Indian and Chinese forces.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Through previous&nbsp;talks, both sides managed to disengage from various confrontation points and relocate to new positions, aiming to prevent clashes and promote peaceful resolution.</p>

<p>ANI while quoting sources said that the Indian side is committed to achieving an amicable resolution while safeguarding its interests in the region. They added that in order to match the Chinese deployments opposite eastern Ladakh, India has stationed more than 50,000 troops in the area.&nbsp;</p>
