Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday (Oct 22) said that the ripple effects of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war are not entirely clear right now. His remarks came while he was addressing the closing plenary session on ‘Navigating a World on Fire’ at the Kautilya Economic Conclave - 2023, organised by the Institute of Economic Growth in association with the Ministry of Finance, in New Delhi.

"The ripple impact of what is taking place right now in the Middle East is still not entirely clear... In different regions, there are smaller happenings whose impact is not inconsequential... There is also the less formal version that is very pervasive, terrorism which has long been honed and practised as a tool of statecraft... Any expectation that conflicts and terrorism can be contained in their impact is no longer tenable. A big part of this is clearly economic, but do not underestimate the danger of metastasis when it comes to radicalism and extremism. No danger is too distant anymore," Jaishankar reportedly said.

'Ripple effects' of Israel-Hamas war not entirely clear now: Jaishankar at Kautilya Economic Conclave 2023

Get ready for a celestial spectacle! On the weekend of October 28-29, 2023, the Moon is about to put on a show with a partial lunar eclipse. On the midnight of October 28, the Moon will begin its journey into the penumbral shadow.

During a penumbral lunar eclipse, the Moon will pass through the Earth's penumbral shadow, causing a faint shading or dimming of the lunar surface. This will occur when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, but the Moon will not enter the Earth's dark central shadow, known as the umbra.

In the early hours of October 29, the umbral phase will take over. The umbral phase of the Moon is the part of a lunar eclipse when the Moon enters the darkest part of Earth's shadow, known as the umbra.

During this phase, the Moon is directly aligned with the Earth and the Sun, causing it to pass through the Earth's central shadow or umbra. This results in a noticeable darkening and reddening of the Moon as it is bathed in the Earth's refracted sunlight, giving it the appearance of a "blood moon."

And guess what? You won't need a telescope to catch this cosmic event. It is going to be visible from every nook and cranny of India around midnight.

A strange and eerie-looking "mermaid" washed up on the shores of Papua New Guinea, perplexing experts who are now in the quest for answers, media reports said. The locals on a remote island buried the enigmatic creature before a DNA sample could be collected. And so, this has left scientists to rely solely on images captured at the scene and initially shared on a Facebook post, reported the New York Post.

A Globster?

This unusual white mass appeared to be a globster, a term used for massive marine flesh masses that are occasionally discovered in various states of decay on beaches. However, the opinions of experts are of varying nature. Environmental scientist Helene Marsh believes that the lifeless lump is more likely a deceased animal than a human, media reports said.

“After all it is anyone’s guess,” Marsh added.

The photos of this creature which was spotted on the shores of Papua New Guinea have left the mystery wide open.

Decomposed cetacean theory

Marine mammal specialist Sascha Hooker reportedly speculated that it appears to be a highly decomposed cetacean, such as a whale or dolphin, known to turn ghostly white after death.

Another researcher called this a potential dugong.

Erich Hoyt from Whale and Dolphin Conservation in the UK does not discount the possibility of the globster being a dugong, also known as a sea cow, but he is confident that the creature has been dead for several weeks.

“At first, I was leaning toward a large shark, but now that I’ve spent a bunch of time looking at this, I am more confident it is a cetacean due o the shape of the tail and location of the flippers," he reportedly said. The blubber seen is now pointing to a marine mammal, as per Jens Currie, the chief scientist of Hawaii's Pacific Whale Foundation.

Scientists discover mystery element in 62mn-year-old lava The photos of this creature which was spotted on the shores of Papua New Guinea have left the mystery wide open. Decomposed cetacean theory Marine mammal specialist Sascha Hooker reportedly speculated that it appears to be a highly decomposed cetacean, such as a whale or dolphin, known to turn ghostly white after death. Another researcher called this a potential dugong. Erich Hoyt from Whale and Dolphin Conservation in the UK does not discount the possibility of the globster being a dugong, also known as a sea cow, but he is confident that the creature has been dead for several weeks. Clues Marine biologist Gregory Skomal made an anatomical discovery, ruling out his initial suspicion of a large shark.
