A Ukrainian military brigade said on Monday that 19 of its soldiers were killed last week in a Russian air strike that President Volodymyr Zelenskiy described as “a tragedy that could have been avoided”.

Ukrainian media reported that the soldiers were killed during an awards ceremony on Friday in the frontline Zaporizhzhia region of southeastern Ukraine.

A statement issued by the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade on Monday provided the death toll but gave few other details.

Ukraine’s defence minister said on Saturday an investigation had been launched into the attack, and Ukraine’s military said separately that Russia had struck the Zaporizhzhia region with an Iskander ballistic missile.

Reuters has not been able to verify details of the attack independently. Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had fired on Ukrainian troops in the region, and that it had killed up to 30 military personnel.

Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigations said on Monday it was investigating a decision by the military command to organise an event for Rocket and Artillery Day in a village close to the front line in Zaporizhzhia, but did not say what the event was.

“The main thing is to establish the complete truth about what happened and prevent such incidents happening again,” Zelenskiy said on Sunday.

The research team was able to buy the data for as cheap as $0.12 per record.

They also found that a vast unregulated, multibillion-dollar industry is thriving online in the US that spans from major credit reporting agencies to obscure analytics firms to mobile apps that quietly sell users’ location data.

“It was way too easy to obtain this data: a simple domain, 12 cents a service member, and no background checks on our purchases,” Justin Sherman, a senior fellow at Duke’s Sanford School of Public Policy who runs its data brokerage research project, told CNN.

“If our research team, subject to university research ethics and privacy processes, could do this in an academic study, a foreign adversary could get data in a heartbeat to profile, blackmail, or target military personnel,” Sherman added.

These data are usually purchased by data brokers to conduct legitimate information surveys, such as background checks and credit checks.

However, there has been a growing concern that a foreign intelligence service can trace the whereabouts and expose vulnerabilities of US military members simply by shopping for the information online, as the sites that sell these information online don't conduct background checks on potential buyers.

<h2>Govt yet to act on it&nbsp;</h2>

The government has already taken note of it, with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau saying in August that it was&nbsp;exploring new rules that would bar data brokers from selling certain information except for specific circumstances.

The Indian government on Sunday sounded a high alert in the wake of worsening air pollution in Delhi and its adjoining areas, as it issued a series of measures to curb smog in the national capital city.

The government announced the implementation of stage-IV measures of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) - the highest level of alert - with immediate effect.

It comes as Delhi and its neighbouring cities continue&nbsp;to record 'severe plus' air quality for the fourth consecutive day.

“Keeping in view the prevailing trend of air quality, and in an effort to prevent further deterioration of air quality in the region, the Sub-Committee today has taken the call to invoke all actions as envisaged under Stage IV of GRAP 'Severe Air Quality (Delhi's AQI 450), today with immediate effect in the entire NCR,” Commission for Air Quality Management said in a statement.

The restrictions imposed in New Delhi include 

1. Restrict entry of truck traffic into Delhi, with exceptions for trucks carrying essential goods/services and all LNG/CNG/electric trucks.

2. Do not allow non-Delhi-registered LCVs, except EVs/CNG/BS-VI diesel vehicles, into Delhi, except those carrying essential goods/services.

3. Prohibit diesel-operated Medium Goods Vehicles and Heavy Goods Vehicles registered in Delhi, except those transporting essential goods/services.

4. Halt construction and demolition activities in linear public projects like highways, roads, flyovers, overbridges, power transmission, pipelines, etc.

5. Consider conducting lessons for classes VI-IX, class XI online instead of physical classes.

6. Allow public, municipal, and private offices to operate at 50 per cent strength, with the rest working from home.

7. Central Government to decide on permitting work from home for employees in Central Government offices.

8. State Governments to explore emergency measures such as closing colleges/educational institutions and implementing odd-even vehicle registration number-based restrictions for non-essential commercial activities.

A purported fake letter being attributed to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Sivakumar created a massive furore in the political circles that saw him having a spat with the chief minister of neighbouring Telangana K Chandrashekar Rao.

“Moreover, Bangalore, when compared to Hyderabad, is known for its safety and has a well-established IT industry with a history spanning 50 years. The city boasts superior logistics capabilities, especially when taking into account the past incidents of communal disturbances in Hyderabad, which pose a potential risk to your business,” it said.

“Furthermore, several international industries in Hyderabad have expressed interest in relocating to Bengaluru. Karnataka and Telangana in war of words over fake letter asking Apple manufacturing partner to relocate

A 20-year-old Israeli-American police officer who was stabbed by a 16-year-old Palestinian boy near Herod's Gate in East Jerusalem's Old City succumbed to his injuries on Monday (Nov 6).

The female border police officer, Elisheva Rose Ida Lubin, was pronounced dead after she was admitted to a hospital in critical condition. Another police officer who was with the deceased suffered moderate injuries, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported.

The suspected attacker was later shot dead, police said.

"A terrorist armed with a knife arrived at Shalem police station and stabbed a female soldier... border police forces neutralised the terrorist by shooting," police said in a statement.

<h2>Another suspected arrested&nbsp;</h2>

The assailant was a resident of the east Jerusalem neighbourhood of Issawiya. The police said that "another suspect" was arrested near the scene of the attack.

The slain officer was from Kibbutz Sa’ad near the Gaza border. She immigrated from the United States in August 2021, and was later drafted into the police force in March of the following year, local reports said.

Reuters news agency reported citing two US officials on Thursday that the Biden administration plans to announce a $425 million military aid package for Ukraine, including counter-drone rockets and munitions.

But few hardline Republicans have continuously opposed regular assistance for Kyiv, stoking doubts over America’s more aid in future for Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president also hinted that the country is shifting its strategy and was hopeful of gaining desirable breakthroughs, which Kyiv has been unable to achieve ever since launching&nbsp;counteroperations.

Mohammadi is refusing under any circumstances to wear a hijab, the head covering which has been obligatory for women in public spaces since shortly after Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution.

Prison authorities in response have refused to transfer Mohammadi, who suffers from heart and lung conditions, to a hospital outside Evin for treatment.

The family said in the statement that she was in "urgent" need of medical treatment outside prison.

It said that the three had been "planning to launch kamikaze drone attacks from the Afghan border towards targets in Iran".

The development came a day after a Taliban delegation arrived in Tehran on Saturday for meetings with top officials including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

In August, Iranian security services claimed to have thwarted an Israeli conspiracy to sabotage its ballistic missile production. Several people were arrested.

Strong tremors were felt across India’s national capital Delhi and its neighbouring areas on Monday (Nov 6) evening, making it the second earthquake to jolt&nbsp;northern India in the past three days. The earthquake&nbsp;was recorded in New Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Faridabad.&nbsp;

According to India's National Centre for Seismology, an earthquake of 5.6 magnitude struck Nepal, and its ripples were felt across northern India.&nbsp;

Notably, the earthquake was recorded in Nepal at 4.14 pm (local time) around the same location where a 6.4 magnitude struck on November 3, killing at least 160 people in the Himalayan country.

Jajarkot, in Karnali province, was one of the worst-hit areas in Friday's earthquake, which left more than 300 wounded.&nbsp;

<h2>Second earthquake in a week&nbsp;</h2>

The first earthquake this week occurred with a magnitude of 6.4, Nepal's National Seismological Centre said. The German Research Centre for Geosciences measured the quake at 5.7, downgrading it from 6.2, while the US Geological Survey pegged it at 5.6.

Officials fear that the&nbsp;death toll in Friday's earthquake in Jajarkot could rise, as they had not been able to establish contact in the hilly area near the epicentre, some 500 km (300 miles) west of the capital Kathmandu. The district has a population of 190,000 with villages scattered in remote hills.

Nepal is situated&nbsp;on the boundary of two tectonic plates — the Asian and Indo-Australian plates. The collision of these two plates caused the Himalayas to rise up, with Tibet at its southern edge.

<h2>Nepal is prone to earthquakes</h2>

Every year, these two great plates converge at a rate of about four to five centimetres (two inches).&nbsp; As a result, massive energy builds up and causes tremors to occur often.

"There has been a collision between Indian and Eurasian plates going on underground for a long time which has accumulated tremendous energy," Bharat Koirala, senior seismologist at the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, Nepal, told PTI news agency.

The earthquake was recorded in New Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Faridabad. According to India's National Centre for Seismology, an earthquake of 5.6 magnitude struck Nepal, and its ripples were felt across northern India. Notably, the earthquake was recorded in Nepal at 4.14 pm (local time) around the same location where a 6.4 magnitude struck on November 3, killing at least 160 people in the Himalayan country. Jajarkot, in Karnali province, was one of the worst-hit areas in Friday's earthquake, which left more than 300 wounded. Second earthquake in a week The first earthquake this week occurred with a magnitude of 6.4, Nepal's National Seismological Centre said. The German Research Centre for Geosciences measured the quake at 5.7, downgrading it from 6.2, while the US Geological Survey pegged it at 5.6. Officials fear that the death toll in Friday's earthquake in Jajarkot could rise, as they had not been able to establish contact in the hilly area near the epicentre, some 500 km (300 miles) west of the capital Kathmandu. The district has a population of 190,000 with villages scattered in remote hills. Nepal is situated on the boundary of two tectonic plates — the Asian and Indo-Australian plates. The collision of these two plates caused the Himalayas to rise up, with Tibet at its southern edge. Nepal is prone to earthquakes Every year, these two great plates converge at a rate of about four to five centimetres (two inches). As a result, massive energy builds up and causes tremors to occur often. "There has been a collision between Indian and Eurasian plates going on underground for a long time which has accumulated tremendous energy," Bharat Koirala, senior seismologist at the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, Nepal, told PTI news agency.
