Hours after the Supreme Court’s ruling, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Wednesday (Nov 15) said that he will bring in emergency legislation to declare Rwanda a safe country for asylum seekers after the judiciary declared his plan to deport immigrants as unlawful.

Addressing a press conference in No10, Sunak reiterated his resolve to proceed with the “stop the boats” campaign—a reference to his plan to end illegal entry as a route to asylum in the UK.

He said that he “accepts it and respects” the Supreme Court’s ruling, but added that he did not agree with it and would find a way around it.

<h2>‘Will continue with the plan to deport immigrants’ </h2>

Sunak asserted that he is ready to defy the European Convention on Human Rights if there are any attempts to stop flights from leaving to Rwanda.

“Let me tell everyone now. I will not allow a foreign court to block these flights. If the Strasbourg Court chooses to intervene against the express wishes of Parliament I am prepared to do whatever is necessary to get flights off,” Sunak said.

“I will not take the easy way out,” he added.

The British premiere further said that he was working on a new international treaty with Rwanda that would provide “guarantees in law” in making sure that people deported from the UK are not sent back to their home country.

Sunak also did not agree with deputy Conservative party deputy chair Lee Anderson’s suggestions asking the UK government to ignore the court’s ruling and allow the flights to take off anyway.

He said that people were “frustrated by repeated challenges to attempts to get this done”.

According to Indian Express newspaper, a joint study group was formed by the Principal Personnel Officers Committee (PPOC) after it met in August.

The PPOC constitutes top officers of the three services and the AFMS is the triservice medical organisation of the Armed Forces.

The group is headed by a senior officer in the Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), the newspaper reported citing sources.

It has been tasked with deliberating on the implications of the Act and suggesting a way forward for its implementation in the defence forces.

Recently, Army Adjutant General’s branch sought comments from its line directorates on the possibility of hiring transgenders, possible employment avenues, and the roles they could perform in the military.

The newspaper, citing sources, reported it has received various comments and suggestions, which are at a preliminary stage.

Among the suggestions received, some insisted on not providing any special concessions to transgenders in terms of military training, rigorous selection standards, or postings in difficult locations, whereas others highlighted administrative and logistical difficulties such as their housing and other infrastructure.

There have also been questions on how they and their spouses would be identified in the military and raised doubts about their cultural their cultural integration with other serving military personnel, an officer privy to the development told Indian Express.

The general elections in Bangladesh will be held on January 7, 2024, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal announced on Wednesday (Nov 15).

The announcement was made in a televised speech for the first time in the history of Bangladesh.

Earlier, the chief election commissioners used to air the recorded version of the polls schedule to address the nation, Dhaka Tribune reports.

November 30 will be the last day to file nomination papers, and they will be scrutinised from December 1 to December 4.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 17, while on December 18, the EC will allot election symbols to candidates, Awal said.

Political parties can start campaigning from December 18 to January 5, 2024 midnight, the CEC said.

A small propeller plane veered off the runway while landing at an airport in Texas and then collided with a moving car on a road nearby, thereby injuring one person.

A clip shared on social media X showed the exact moment the plane breached the fence during its emergency landing as it bounced and skidded onto a road before colliding with a white sedan.

The incident occurred at the Aero Country Airport in McKinney, a suburb approximately 35 miles north of Dallas.

According to reports, the car driver suffered minor injuries and was admitted to a nearby hospital, while the two people in the plane escaped unhurt.

The&nbsp;McKinney Fire Department, in a statement, said that paramedics evaluated all three patients at the scene and transported the car's driver to the hospital with minor injuries.

The number of crossings has risen significantly in recent years, a trend Sunak has vowed to reverse.

However, it has been a costly and public failure for three successive prime ministers. According to BBC, the UK has paid the Rwandan government £140 million ($177 million) for the proposal.

Rishi Sunak in a statement said that the government would prepare for the next steps to be taken following the ruling.

He noted the ruling said the "principle" of sending migrants to a third country is "lawful".

"We have seen today’s judgment and will now consider next steps," the statement read.

"This was not the outcome we wanted, but we have spent the last few months planning for all eventualities and we remain completely committed to stopping the boats."

Minutes after Wednesday's&nbsp;ruling, the Rwanda government issued a statement, saying it has taken exception to the ruling which defined the territory as "not a safe third country”.

"However, we do take issue with the ruling that Rwanda is not a safe third country for asylum seekers and refugees, in terms of refoulement. Rwanda and the UK have been working together to ensure the integration of relocated asylum seekers into Rwandan society.

An agent of the US Secret Service opened fire at&nbsp;three persons attempting to break into a car outside President Joe Biden’s granddaughter Naomi’s home in Washington.

The incident happened on Sunday night just before midnight in the Georgetown neighbourhood of Washington, DC.

When the individuals attempted to break into a parked and unoccupied government vehicle, the federal official protecting 29-year-old Naomi responded.

“On Nov. 12 around 11:58 p.m. in the Georgetown neighbourhood of Washington, DC, Secret Service agents encountered possibly three individuals breaking a window on a parked and unoccupied government vehicle,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement.

The statement further said that no one got injured, and the matter is being jointly investigated&nbsp;by the DC Metropolitan Police Department and the Secret Service.

“During this encounter, a federal agent discharged a service weapon and it is believed no one was struck. The offenders immediately fled the scene in a red vehicle and a regional lookout was issued to supporting units. There was no threat to any protectees and the incident is being investigated by the DC Metropolitan Police Department and the Secret Service.”

It was unclear if Naomi Biden was in the vicinity when the incident occurred, however, she was reportedly made aware of the incident afterwards.

A clip shared by US-based journalist Andy Ngô on social media platform X showed Kurush Mistry and his wife Shailja Gupta covering up photos of Israeli civilians kidnapped by the Hamas terror group.

In the video, they can also be purportedly seen telling a Jewish man to “return to his country."

The clip further shows Shailja allegedly calling the man an “uneducated prick” after he said that he does not know of Palestine. She also reportedly stated that Jewish people were “r*pists.”

The two-minute-long video has since gone viral, attracting more than two million views on microblogging site X.

While Rahul Gandhi raked up the issue of BJP poaching Congress MLAs, Modi made a personal jibe at the Gandhi scion.

Addressing a rally in Vidisha city, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accused Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of "purchasing" his party's MLAs and “stealing” government in Madhya Pradesh.

He was referring to the rebellion of 22 Congress MLAs that led to the collapse of the Kamal Nath government in 2020.

"Five years back, all of you elected the Congress party to the government. You did not elect BJP but the Congress party. After that, BJP leaders -- Narendra Modi, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Amit Shah -- purchased MLAs and stole the elected government of Madhya Pradesh," he said in a poll rally in Madhya Pradesh's Vidisha.

"By giving crores of rupees and purchasing MLAs of the Congress party, your decision, the voice of your heart was crushed by the BJP leaders, by the prime minister. You were cheated," he added.

Gandhi vowed that the Congress would "chase away" the BJP in Madhya Pradesh.

<h2>'Congress has already accepted defeat'</h2>

Modi, on the other hand, indirectly referred Rahul as ‘king of fools’ over his remark during a rally on Monday that mobile phones in the people's pockets were "Made in China" and they should rather be "Made in Madhya Pradesh".

"A 'mahagyani' (great sage) from Congress yesterday said people of India have 'Made in China' phones...moorkhon ke sardar (king of fools)...in which world do they live. They have the disease of not seeing their country's progress. India has become the second largest manufacturer of mobile phones in the world," the PM said.

He further said that some Congress leaders have already accepted defeat and are not even campaigning for votes.

"Congress leaders don't know what they will say to people. The Congress has accepted that their fake promises don't stand a chance in front of Modi guarantees," he said.

The poll panel was acting on a complaint made by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that Gandhi made "false" and "unverified" statements against Modi at an election rally in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh state.

The BJP further claimed that Gandhi made a "baseless and false" claim that the Narendra Modi government had privatised public sector undertakings.

<h2>Second EC notice to Priyanka&nbsp;&nbsp;</h2>

This is the second EC notice to Priyanka amid the ongoing Assembly elections.

The poll panel asked her to explain her statement by 8 pm on Thursday (Nov 16).

Similarly, Kejriwal was asked to explain for alleged disparaging remarks made against the PM on his social media handle.

In its notice to the AAP, the EC stated, "The national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party is hereby called upon to explain the statements/allegations/averments, made in the alleged social media posts under reference, against a star campaigner of another national party and against the political party and by insinuation and innuendo against the candidates for the state elections and to show cause why appropriate action for violation of model code of conduct read with relevant election and penal laws should not be taken against you."

<h2>Poll panel acting on BJP complaint&nbsp;</h2>

Kejriwal was also asked to clarify his remarks by Thursday.

On November 10, the BJP approached the Election Commission and demanded action against the AAP for posting "very unacceptable" and "unethical" video clips and remarks on a social media platform targeting PM Modi.
