The Dutch foreign ministry said Wednesday it was investigating reports that China has set up two illegal police stations in the Netherlands which it uses to harass dissidents.

Dutch media reported that the Chinese posts in Amsterdam and Rotterdam purported to offer diplomatic assistance, but that they had not been declared to the Netherlands' government.

"The police stations&nbsp;were being used to silence political opponents," broadcaster RTL and investigative website Follow the Money said, quoting a Chinese dissident living in the Netherlands.

China's foreign ministry said the reports were "completely false" and said the "service stations" were meant to help overseas citizens do things like renew driving licences. 
The Netherlands said it was taking the claims "seriously".

"The ministry of foreign affairs is now investigating the activities of the so-called police centres. When we have more clarity about this, appropriate action will be taken," Dutch foreign ministry spokeswoman Maxime Hovenkamp told AFP.

"It is true that we have not been informed about the centres through diplomatic channels."

The news of Sunak's elevation as the PM came on the day of Diwali, the auspicious Hindu festival of light. US President Joe Biden was celebrating the festival in the White House with&nbsp;Indian Americans but managed to extend his congratulatory message to Sunak.&nbsp;

“We got the news that Rishi Sunak is now the PM of the UK. Tomorrow, he goes to see the king (King Charles). It is pretty astounding, a ground-breaking milestone and it matters,” said Biden, according to ANI.&nbsp;

Despite being a Brexit supporter, Sunak received warm wishes from the European Union&nbsp;Council President Charles Michel who said,&nbsp;"Working together is the only way to face common challenges...and bringing stability is key to overcoming them."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had not released any statement congratulating Sunak at the time of publishing but Oleksandr Kornienko, the first deputy chairman of Ukraine's parliament said Britain finally had some stability.&nbsp;

"Congratulations to the people of Great Britain on the fact that they have political stability again. After a short stage of turbulence."

Sunak is expected to meet King Charles III today. After which, he will officially take charge as Britain's first India-origin Prime Minister.&nbsp;

J. Alexander Kueng, 29, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of playing a role in the murder of George Floyd has pleaded guilty in the case. Reportedly, Kueng entered into an agreement with prosecutors hours before a jury was to be selected for his trial.

To which Kueng replied in affirmative and said he understood the agreement. Kueng admitted to aiding and abetting the second-degree manslaughter of Floyd. According to details of the deal, he will serve 3.5 years in prison which will run concurrently with another three-year sentence that he was given in a federal trial. The deal also means that the serious charge of aiding and abetting second-degree murder will now be dropped against Kueng. While Kueng accepted the plea deal, the second former Minneapolis police officer Tou Thao refused to accept the deal and said he will face the trial. In a previous hearing, he said pleading guilty would be a 'lie and a sin'. Hundreds of Syrian refugees apprehended by Turkey are being detained arbitrarily and returned to the chaos-ridden region of northern Syria, per a new report released by New York-based Human Rights Watch.&nbsp;

"In violation of international law, Turkish authorities have rounded up hundreds of Syrian refugees, even unaccompanied children, and forced them back to Syria," said Nadia Hardman, one of the researchers at the non-profit group.&nbsp;

The report, based on interviews with dozens of refugees added that most of them were subjected to extreme abuse and forced to sign documents that turned out to be&nbsp;voluntary repatriation agreements.&nbsp;

The NGO pointed fingers at the European Union for facilitating the 'harsh treatment' of refugees. Notably, the EU funds migration detention centres in Turkey, in exchange for reducing the flow of migrants to the continent.&nbsp;&nbsp;
